I don't understand. There are two separate issues:
  • 3M has been told they cannot sell masks to Canada and Latin America
  • medical supplies destined for Germany and Canada were diverted to the US after they were in transit to Germany and Canada.
How does the question relate?
It demonstrates that with the issue of masks, the US secured US needs first. This is no difference than the intent of Germany and Canada when they obtained masks for themselves by paying prices that say, Bangladesh and Nigeria could never afford.

I have no doubt that US would claim "piracy" had the situation been reversed. Likewise, it may not be prudent for the US to out bid Canada given the situation in Detroit and the skills of Canadian nurses.

At the end of the day, however, Canada and Germany had no problem obtaining masks over say, Bangladesh and Nigeria. The concept only became problematic when they were edged out.

President Trump appears to have red eyes, at least on my TV. I know he tested yesterday, but like Dr. Birx said, you can get it immediately after testing.

I doubt that. I'm sure they are a caring human being. Based on the article, there is a list of 49 conditions that will not be accepted on the Comfort at this point in time. And as people are self-isolating, hopefully this means fewer road accidents and barroom brawls. It would be great if the Comfort will accept CV19 patients. That's up to the president.

would be great too, if hospitals transferred their non-covid patients ... as was the initial intention!!

Primarily we are to avoid touching mucous membranes, correct? Pushing our hair back or touching forehead or cheek is not a problem?
I don’t know. I’m totally rethinking my hair because of this. It’s not quite long enough to keep pulled back out of my face, but if I go for a short do, that requires constant maintenance cuts at a salon, which may be worse. I’m willing it to grow extra fast during quarantine.

I mean this would be like an orthopedist from another state visiting NY and saying woah coronavirus patients, no way, but if you have any broken legs I'll be here in my office totally willing and able to set some casts.

NYC needs people treating COVID-19 patients, not overflow broken arms. JMO

NY needs a medical location that is NOT treating Covid19 to stop the spread. The patients in hospitals now, with other diseases or diagnoses are at 100% risk of being exposed. Any compromised patient deserves to have a Covid19 free environment to give them the best chance to recover from illness.

Every disaster plan provides for a "clean" environment. Its the only way to control/reduce the spread. All of the staff on Comfort and Mercy quarantine for 14 days before undertaking this task. This was to prevent infecting patients.

Its not about refusing to treat based on discrimination, its based on protecting your love one from exposure when in a medical compromised condition.

A good example .....most Pediatrician offices have a well entrance and a separate entrance for sick.

According to Gov Cuomo during today's presser, there really are less non-co vid hospitalizations. Because of so many being quarantined, there are way less traffic and pedestrian accidents, and crime is down. Plus elective surgeries have been canceled for the time being.
I think it's good there is spare capacity though. There could be an emergency or a fire or anything and those beds could be needed quickly. Why complain about spare hospital beds?

Hoarding all the face masks during a pandemic would go against NATO agreements, as well as our new NAFTA agreement.

Red eyes, or a red shadow on the eyeball?

Yes. But 49 excluded conditions makes that hard, depending on what the 49 are. Plus, I'll bet a whole lot of people test positive in NYC these days, symptoms or not. They won't get on the ship unless the president decides otherwise.

According to this article, that list includes obstetric and pediatric care. Would love to see the actual list, though.
A NYC hospital chief has called the U.S.N.S. Comfort's coronavirus relief 'a joke' as hundreds of its beds lay empty amid crisis

I don’t like it. Their class C & D felonies warranted prison time, pre Covid they were not walking out. This will backfire, imo. Then what? A new inmate for county lockup. An inmate that has been roaming and might have Covid. What will the county jail do when recidivism soars? Some will easily find jobs & be amongst the public. Will they reoffend? Yes, a high percentage, imo.

Several murderers were released in Harris county Texas with NO BOND. Houston Chronicle, I think.

NHS bosses admit ALL organ transplants could be scrapped 'within days' over fears patients will catch coronavirus as outbreak overwhelms intensive care units

Coronavirus UK: NHS could scrap ALL organ transplants | Daily Mail Online

Yep, the Toronto organ donor program was 'put on hold' a month or so ago. Sadly, they know that it will 'have a negative impact' on patients.

Wish there was a nicer way to say that but there is not.

I believe there is a 'loophole' for very urgent cases. Guess if they get a really healthy heart/lung/etc. might do it and send the person home asap.

I really would hope that during this crisis that this daily PC would become a little more uniting instead of appearing to look for accolades on what is told being done. I want to keep informed, but It is getting harder and harder to watch everyday.

Dr. Birx is looking really tired, and missing Dr. Fauci.

Spain coronavirus death toll rises by 932 overnight

Zoe Tidman
...
The number of people who have died after contracting coronavirus in Spain has risen to 10,935 – up by 932 from the day before.

It marks the first time the daily death toll has slowed down in over a week.
...
Meanwhile, the number of recorded infections jumped to 117,710 on Friday morning, according to the Spanish health ministry.

This is an increase of around 7,500 in 24 hours.

The health ministry said the official death toll rose by 932 on Friday – around 20 less than Thursday’s record increase of 950.

Spain has been one of the hardest-hit countries in the world during the coronavirus pandemic.
...
It had the second-largest number of cases in the world after the US and the second-biggest death toll after Italy on Friday morning.

Spain has been in lockdown for several weeks as it battles it Covid-19 outbreak, with people only able to leave their homes for necessary trips.

Tougher restrictions started this week which allow only essential workers to travel into work.

Pedro Sanchez, the prime minister, said in a televised address at the weekend all workers would have to remain at home "as if it were a weekend" to "intensify" efforts to stem the outbreak of the coronavirus.
...
Before that, people were allowed to go to offices and factories if they were unable to work from home during the lockdown.

Spain has shed an unprecedented 900,000 jobs since its coronavirus lockdown started, according to data released on Thursday.

So we will send thousands of selfless doctors and nurses to New York to help. Without enough PPE.
BUT....

There are still states who refuse to crackdown on those who WON’T social distance.

Crackpot religious leaders who insist on gathering together for services.

States letting dangerous criminals out of prisons.

Stimulus money is still not dispersed to those who desperately need it.

JMO.

I agree, securing ones own needs ahead of allies may not be prudent. The US may do well to listen to German and Canadian concerns. The Bangladeshis and other developing countries, however, may have issues with being out bid by the prices that Canada and Germany intended to pay for the PE.

Do they have any valid concerns? If so, how can Germany, Canada and the US address these concerns?

Sadly, there are no easy answers and a lot of grey areas in regards to morality.

When Germany and Canada place orders for medical supplies, and someone from the US intercepts the shipment by offering a bit more money, everyone has a serious problem.

"Andreas Geisel, the interior minister for Berlin state, described the diversion as “an act of modern piracy” and appealed to the German government to demand Washington conform to international trading rules. “This is no way to treat trans-Atlantic partners,” Geisel said. “Even in times of global crisis there should be no wild west methods.”
US accused of 'modern piracy' after diversion of masks meant for Europe

Just getting caught up. What we, the US, did there was wrong. I’m sorry we can be such a-holes. :(

ETA - I now see it wasn’t our actual government, but I’ll leave this up anyway.

All very true. Then we need to accept some inefficiency in service of this greater good, I guess. Still, what are those 49 excluded conditions? Not finding them in my searches, yet.
