I don't understand. There are two separate issues:

• 3M has been told they cannot sell masks to Canada and Latin America
• medical supplies destined for Germany and Canada were diverted to the US after they were in transit to Germany and Canada.

How does the question relate?

It demonstrates that with the issue of masks, the US secured US needs first. This is no difference than the intent of Germany and Canada when they obtained masks for themselves by paying prices that say, Bangladesh and Nigeria could never afford.

I have no doubt that US would claim "piracy" had the situation been reversed. Likewise, it may not be prudent for the US to out bid Canada given the situation in Detroit and the skills of Canadian nurses.

At the end of the day, however, Canada and Germany had no problem obtaining masks over say, Bangladesh and Nigeria. The concept only became problematic when they were edged out.

I doubt that. I'm sure they are a caring human being. Based on the article, there is a list of 49 conditions that will not be accepted on the Comfort at this point in time. And as people are self-isolating, hopefully this means fewer road accidents and barroom brawls. It would be great if the Comfort will accept CV19 patients. That's up to the president.

I don’t know. I’m totally rethinking my hair because of this. It’s not quite long enough to keep pulled back out of my face, but if I go for a short do, that requires constant maintenance cuts at a salon, which may be worse. I’m willing it to grow extra fast during quarantine.

NYC needs people treating COVID-19 patients, not overflow broken arms. JMO

NY needs a medical location that is NOT treating Covid19 to stop the spread. The patients in hospitals now, with other diseases or diagnoses are at 100% risk of being exposed. Any compromised patient deserves to have a Covid19 free environment to give them the best chance to recover from illness.

Every disaster plan provides for a "clean" environment. Its the only way to control/reduce the spread. All of the staff on Comfort and Mercy quarantine for 14 days before undertaking this task. This was to prevent infecting patients.

Its not about refusing to treat based on discrimination, its based on protecting your love one from exposure when in a medical compromised condition.

A good example .....most Pediatrician offices have a well entrance and a separate entrance for sick.

According to Gov Cuomo during today's presser, there really are less non-co vid hospitalizations. Because of so many being quarantined, there are way less traffic and pedestrian accidents, and crime is down. Plus elective surgeries have been canceled for the time being.

I think it's good there is spare capacity though. There could be an emergency or a fire or anything and those beds could be needed quickly. Why complain about spare hospital beds?

Yes. But 49 excluded conditions makes that hard, depending on what the 49 are. Plus, I'll bet a whole lot of people test positive in NYC these days, symptoms or not. They won't get on the ship unless the president decides otherwise.

According to this article, that list includes obstetric and pediatric care. Would love to see the actual list, though.

I don’t like it. Their class C & D felonies warranted prison time, pre Covid they were not walking out. This will backfire, imo. Then what? A new inmate for county lockup. An inmate that has been roaming and might have Covid. What will the county jail do when recidivism soars? Some will easily find jobs & be amongst the public. Will they reoffend? Yes, a high percentage, imo.

Yep, the Toronto organ donor program was 'put on hold' a month or so ago. Sadly, they know that it will 'have a negative impact' on patients.

Wish there was a nicer way to say that but there is not.

I believe there is a 'loophole' for very urgent cases. Guess if they get a really healthy heart/lung/etc. might do it and send the person home asap.

I agree, securing ones own needs ahead of allies may not be prudent. The US may do well to listen to German and Canadian concerns. The Bangladeshis and other developing countries, however, may have issues with being out bid by the prices that Canada and Germany intended to pay for the PE.

Do they have any valid concerns? If so, how can Germany, Canada and the US address these concerns?

Sadly, there are no easy answers and a lot of grey areas in regards to morality.

When Germany and Canada place orders for medical supplies, and someone from the US intercepts the shipment by offering a bit more money, everyone has a serious problem.
