It demonstrates that with the issue of masks, the US secured US needs first. This is no difference than the intent of Germany and Canada when they obtained masks for themselves by paying prices that say, Bangladesh and Nigeria could never afford.I don't understand. There are two separate issues:
How does the question relate?
- 3M has been told they cannot sell masks to Canada and Latin America
- medical supplies destined for Germany and Canada were diverted to the US after they were in transit to Germany and Canada.
I have no doubt that US would claim "piracy" had the situation been reversed. Likewise, it may not be prudent for the US to out bid Canada given the situation in Detroit and the skills of Canadian nurses.
At the end of the day, however, Canada and Germany had no problem obtaining masks over say, Bangladesh and Nigeria. The concept only became problematic when they were edged out.
