A small trial finds that hydroxychloroquine is not effective for treating coronavirus
Katherine Seley-Radtke, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and President-Elect of the International Society for Antiviral Research, University of Maryland, Baltimore County for yahoo.news

This is exactly why people who are not medical professionals should not be making public statements about drugs being used as potential treatments when they have no knowledge or expertise in what they are talking about. To do so is reckless and dangerous in my opinion and it is how you end up with people dying after drinking fish tank cleaner.

Married for 51 years, they died of Covid-19 six minutes apart - CNN

Adrian and Stuart Baker were married for more than 51 years, and their family called them inseparable. On March 29, they both died of complications due to Covid-19 -- just six minutes apart.

Adrian and Stuart Baker, at the time of their marriage.

”"They were as compatible and inseparable as two human beings have ever been married and existed on earth," Baker said.

Baker's message for others
On Thursday, Baker, his three children and his sister's family gathered for his parents' memorial service in Boynton Beach. The service was live-streamed for other friends and relatives and watched by people all over the world, he said.
"Hopefully people hear our story and it motivates them to do the right thing," he said. "By doing that, maybe it won't affect them or it won't affect their family but maybe they help another family not endure the pain and agony that me and my sister and our kids and the rest of our family are enduring right now."
Baker said he hopes his family's story can be a catalyst for change. He's calling on people to listen to what health officials have been saying: practice social distancing, wash their hands regularly and most importantly, stay at home.”
Damn, this one brought tears to my eyes and I'm a pretty tough cookie.

Why are people upset by this? Cuomo said he'd give them back.
A week or so ago I was told it was a bad idea because "everyone" is going to need these ventilators because of how long people stay on them therefore states need to keep them for themselves.

I despair. And I am very grateful to Oregon’s very sensible Governor Kate Brown whose actions have no doubt contributed to flattening our curve enough to delay our peak until May 3 (according to estimates). She’s also the one who sent 140 respirators to NY without being asked to (Cuomo, Trump and Pence thanked her today).

I wonder if she thinks she'll get them back - Oregon's peak will be May 5. 133 ventilators will be needed as a conservative estimate.

It's a very kind thing to do if Oregon has 200 ventilators. To my way of thinking, Oregon's fact collecting about how many people actually have CV is lacking. But I'm conservative that way.

what is with Publix and paper products- i know
people hoard but i dont understand stand why they dont re-stock-- if you want TP go
to Walmart as early as possible--the have a limit
of one package per person-tbey also have
towel paper but no disinfectant wipes

<modsnip>

Restocking depends on truck drivers, forklift operators, stockers all being in place. In many places, as many as 30% of these people have symptoms or have underlying conditions.

At my local WalMart, I'd be exposing myself to a couple of hundred people just to go to the store.

No thank you - not until this peaks and is on its downward phase.

Respectfully:
Essential business? Easter basket shopping?

I really hope people aren’t taking chances and not staying at home to go get Easter baskets.

ITA. I just got snippy with people on my little town's FB page cause they were posting about going to buy flowers/plants. NOT ESSENTIAL. My Dad is currently dying in hospital alone because no visitors are allowed because of this virus. My Dad will die alone without his wife, kids and grandkids there to hold his hand, kiss his cheek, and comfort him. My Dad will die afraid and panicked because of this virus. I am deeply offended that people are STILL going out for non-essentials!

I am so sorry. My heart aches for you right now. Know your family is in my thoughts.

Do you know how many ventilators Oregon has?

I am so sorry LadyL. I remember when my Dad died (last Summer). My brother and I were with him round the clock. He died while we were asleep but I woke up knowing that he was gone. He had my brother and me with him for 10 days. We did not leave. I am furious that folks are going out for non essentials to.
God Bless you and your family.

I'm not upset. I think it's great (thought I don't live in Oregon).

First, some will probably no longer function.

Second, New York's need for them is longterm. Cuomo may "give them back" but will it be in time if Oregon needs them sooner rather than later?

So I can understand how Oregonians (who have one of the lowest numbers of ICU beds per capita in the nation) are upset. They are also very spread out, and right now, practicing social distancing and keeping their need for ventilators low.

If everything goes well, Oregon will need 132 ventilators at the peak. If something goes awry (as in Washington), they will need more. I can see how locals might want a small extra supply for themselves.

Fascinating to watch how things work out in a true crisis. Good for Oregon for seeing themselves as part of the US as a whole and giving to a needy area. I am pretty sure California will pitch in heavily to help Oregon (if only we can get certain communities to practice frickin social distancing!)

There is NO TIME to conduct thorough research. Trials. Peer reviews. This was a SMALL trial. Well, the big trials have been going on for weeks with drs. prescribing the drug “off label”. Working quite well per msm. Not perfect but it’s better than NOTHING!
This drug is not a fish tank cleaner. It’s a malaria drug as I recall. If people do stupid stuff, I can’t help it. No one can help stupid. Bc YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID.
But you can try old drugs for new illnesses. Teach old dogs new tricks. Done every day.

What evidence is there that malaria drug is better than nothing? It might be worse than nothing, because it does have cardiovascular side effects.

That’s BEYOND wrong.
Anyone out here who knows of an alternative solution to just breaking down the hospital doors?

I was thinking that if someone decides to drink bleach because its been said that bleach kills the virus, should those who talk about bleach be disparaged?

Of course not.

I expect people didn’t understand at the time that the peak needs in hospitals would be coming at different times for different states? Maybe. Maybe not. On local news FB in Southern Oregon, plenty were happy the Governor was generous, but many, many were upset because they are scared, but also willfully uninformed, hate Brown and NY and are just plain selfish. Even when others tried to explain that NY would return them, they didn’t budge. One even called Brown a communist. They were very “triggered” (I dislike that word but it fits here) by her spirit of generosity.

Well, bleach does actually kill the virus, but if you drink it, it could kill you too.

If I’m dying from coronavirus, why would I be worried about cardiovascular side effects that may or may not affect me? Let me see....Untreated FOR SURE I’ll die from corona virus bc I’m old and have pre-existing medical problems. Or treated, I live but MIGHT get a side effect from the life saving drug. I didn’t even have to think about the choice. I’ll take my chances, thank you very much.
