Where's the money people have set aside in case of an emergency? The money they have saved for a rainy day? Use that until the free money that the government doesn't owe anyone arrives. Sheesh
Credit card interest free balance transfers or just credit card use till next month is also a good help.

I so hope this is true.
Not for us, but for millions of Americans.
Civil unrest is a scary place that I am concerned about.

(Hang on KALI, it's coming next week)

When will your stimulus check arrive? And how much will you receive?
...
60 million checks distributed through direct deposit will be issued the week of April 13.
The IRS will start sending paper stimulus checks the week of May 4.
Approximately 5 million paper checks will be issued each week after May 4.

A Navy hospital ship in New York City will take in more patients on ventilators overnight

The USNS Comfort passes the Statue of Liberty as it enters New York Harbor during the outbreak of the coronavirus disease in New York City on March 30.

[...]

“We have, I believe, around 10 ICU-level vented patients headed our way … from one of the local hospitals," Captain Patrick Amersbach of the United States Naval Ship (USNS) Comfort told CNN’s Don Lemon late Tuesday night.
Amersbach did not say whether those patients have coronavirus infections.

The Comfort originally was only going to accept non-Covid-19 patients, but that restriction was rescinded Monday night.

A crew member who has not been in contact with patients tested positive for Covid-19, but this will not affect the ability for the Comfort to receive patients, Amersbach said.

As a precaution, he says, the medical treatment areas of the Comfort are being isolated from the rest of the ship, and some crew members will be lodging in local hotel rooms instead of staying aboard throughout the day.

Coronavirus live updates: Cases top 1.4 million globally - CNN
I thought the crew quarantined for 14 days prior to leaving for NYC?

And if no contact with patients - where did the crew member get exposed?

That would mean he already had it before the 14 days or someone else on the ship had it before the 14 days.

So 14 days isn’t long enough to quarantine?

I wonder if UK and US care home deaths have been included in the figures yet?

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hal Willner, a music producer and longtime “Saturday Night Live” music supervisor, has died. He was 64.

Blake Zidell, a representative for Willner, said the producer died Tuesday. Zidell said Willner had symptoms consistent with those caused by the coronavirus, but he had not been diagnosed with the virus.

Willner had selected music for skits on “Saturday Night Live” since 1980. He produced albums for Lucinda Williams, Lou Reed and Marianne Faithfull, who is currently being treated for the coronavirus in a London hospital.

More grocery workers :(

Cypress, Houston H-E-B employees test positive for coronavirus, company reports

“H-E-B has been widely praised since the virus gained momentum in the U.S. for having started planning for the COVID-19 crisis in January.

As the pandemic worsens nationwide, supermarket chains are beginning to report employee deaths. Concerns about their workers, deemed essential by the government, are on the rise.

H-E-B on March 20 announced a temporary $2 hourly pay raise for its employees to thank them for working during the pandemic. The raise was set to expire April 12.”

Grocery workers are beginning to die of coronavirus

“Major supermarket chains are beginning to report their first coronavirus-related employee deaths, leading to store closures and increasing anxiety among grocery workers as the pandemic intensifies across the country.

A Trader Joe's worker in Scarsdale, New York, a greeter at a Giant store in Largo, Maryland, and two Walmart employees from the same Chicago-area store have died of covid-19 in recent days, the companies confirmed Monday.”

Surreal. Since when is going to work at a grocery store a dangerous job.

Since now...Tragic.

The only store I have been to had the plexiglass screens to protect the cashiers but the shelf stackers were mingling with us genpop trying to keep our distance. Hopefully the stores are all protecting their staff.

Apologies if this has already been posted/discussed. Just sent this to a friend:

If you scroll all the way to the bottom/end of the article (not the end of the page), in the last graph you can either choose which state you want to see or you just can see all of them in order of peak date. This model has [my state] peaking April 19 and it also shows deaths, daily deaths, and total projected deaths etc.

Coronavirus State-By-State Projections: When Will Each State Peak?

Here's the note at the end:

Note: This projection is current as of April 7, at 5 p.m. ET, and will be updated periodically as the modelers input new data. The visualization shows the day each state may reach its worst day for deaths between now and Aug. 4.

I wonder if one could scientifically ascertain that the “viral load” is higher in these settings. “High viral load” is something that was mentioned in the early days wrt health care settings, Dr. LW...

If the study is correct that CV/respiratory droplets can live in the air for three hours...

These articles possibly lend insight as to the high risk factor in grocery stores. I’m not sure it’s just the employees who are infected at these sites moo.

All the more reason to opt for delivery if possible.

Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Including Crypt, Will Become a Hospital

The vast interior of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in Manhattan stood empty on Monday, the thousands of chairs that normally sit beneath its soaring ceiling and stained-glass windows removed to make room for a more grim sight: a coronavirus field hospital.

The cathedral, which describes itself as the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, said on Monday that its 600-foot-long nave and equally large subterranean crypt would be turned into an emergency hospital as part of the fight against the pandemic.

Nine climate-controlled medical tents capable of holding a total of at least 200 patients will be erected inside the cathedral by the end of the week, said the Rt. Rev. Clifton Daniel III, the dean of the cathedral.

The crypt, which is primarily accessible via a series of winding staircases, will be used as “a staging area” for medical personnel, he said. It is the first time the cathedral, which is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, will have been used for such a task, he said.

Apparently, the crew are still on board ..... article posted a couple of hours ago.

UK government secretly lobbies Australia to allow Ruby Princess crew to disembark
The letter also reveals a number of crew on board have been in contact with the UK government seeking help.
“Where there are questions we cannot answer, we have escalated them to the Carnival Corporation management team,” it reads.
“Carnival Corporation has told us that they are doing everything they can to support both your mental and physical well-being, but do let us know if there are issues you would like us to raise with them on your behalf.”

The crew remains locked on board the vessel.

Hey was your son able to get some supplies?

Thanks for asking :) I sent him some a little money and he tried Instacart yesterday but I don't think it will actually be delivered for a few days or maybe the weekend, apparently I accidentally deleted his texts with the info. It's so tempting to fly down there to be with him, he's stuck all alone in an apartment (apparently his roommate left) with no car, very little food and money, scared to go outside but losing his mind sitting in the apartment all day etc. He's feeling totally overwhelmed.

What do you think about this? Have the crew been tested and has the 14 day quarantine passed yet?
