Thanks... it certainly states how serious this issue is and as stated, Countries that have successfully avoided being overwhelmed by COVID-19 have used extensive testing and contact tracing.
Certainly South Korea's lead of this will hopefully teach others. It's almost as if we can get temporary employees (just like US 2020 census takers/workers) to be trained in contact tracing. Our WS group here would be a great pilot batch, don't you think?

I am just hoping that eventually we will actually get statistics of how long an asymptomatic person carries. And how soon we will be able to test EVERYBODY.

Have we seen an update from @beatrixpotter about her son? Did a quick search and didn't see one. Praying for good news.

Thanks for asking. He's still in a lot of pain and struggling to sleep. His oxygen levels are normal though thankfully. He got a COVID-19 test yesterday and is getting an appointment set up with a pulmonologist. I just totally panicked yesterday. He's in an extreme amount of pain from a kid with a really high pain tolerance. We have no idea what the cause of this is. It's pretty unusual for a kid his age to have total unknown reasons for water in lungs. I hope the cause is benign. It's a terrible time to need to be going to hospitals and doing follow up testing.

Coronavirus: Chancellor Rishi Sunak leads UK briefing - BBC News

Summary
  1. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak leads briefing, with Prof Stephen Powis (NHS) and scientific adviser Angela McLean
  2. UK PM Boris Johnson remains in intensive care but is sitting up and engaging with clinical team, Mr Sunak says
  3. Total number of deaths in UK hospitals from coronavirus rises to 7,097 - a record increase of 938 in a day
  4. Deaths in Spain rise for a second consecutive day, to 14,555
  5. In Germany, infections have passed the 100,000 mark
  6. There are more than 1.4 million confirmed cases worldwide
  7. London Mayor Sadiq Khan says of the UK: "We are nowhere near lifting the lockdown"
  8. Talks on how to help Eurozone countries badly affected by the coronavirus epidemic are suspended
  9. People are leaving Wuhan for the first time after the lockdown was partially lifted
Sadly, my opinion is we are heading for a total of 10k deaths by Saturday and I don't expect the lockdown to change, unless it gets more restrictive, as in France.

I see 2, 3 & 4. Based on my local news, I don’t believe much social distancing going on in my area. Sure, the stores are open fewer hours, only requiring everyone to shop during condensed hours. Everyone I communicate with that lives in town/subdivisions seems to think all things remain pre Covid.
The scientists on alert for second coronavirus wave in China
Second wave
The virus would have difficulty reestablishing itself in the community if a significant portion of people, between 50% and 70%, were infected and are now immune, says Leung. But he notes that even in Wuhan — which accounted for more than half China’s 81,000 cases — the number of those people infected and are now immune to the disease is probably less than 10% — which means there are lots of people still vulnerable to infection. A vaccine would increase the percentage of immune people, but no vaccines are expected for at least a year. “These numbers don’t allow a sigh of relief,” he says.

Same. How do we not have a 2nd or further round unless we successfully found every carrier and ensured they were totally isolated for enough time? We have just blunted the curve and that's all this was supposed to do....blunt the curve. It was never supposed to stop it dead in it's tracks with a total elimination of the virus.

I thought virologists were saying it was going to eventually spread through the majority of the population in about 18 mo.

And people are sure not all social distancing. My son's school still hasn't totally called of his graduation and my daughter just got an invitation in the mail yesterday for two girl's sweet 16 party in early May. Our governor just extended the stay in place orders today. But to even think of still throwing a giant party immediately after the stay in place date just shows such a total disconnect from reality. I know parents of some kids my kids know legitimately think it's a hoax or just totally over hyped.

Here's a link that discusses genetic differences. I can grasp some of it, but frankly, it is over my head. I hope someone with a better background can decipher it.

I woke up with pink eye and normal temp. I probably have some sort of virus but not covid, pheww. I live in Warren County, which is not so bad, but my husband works in Hudson County which is really bad. He lost 4 coworkers all ready. :(

Stay safe too! I'm so scared!
We just rescued my daughter, SIL and grandson from Hoboken (Hudson County) a week ago. They work in Manhattan but have been home for many weeks. They are here with us in Gloucester County now and we get to celebrate grandson’s 3rd birthday tomorrow. I feel lucky.

So sorry to hear of your husband’s coworkers. Very sad. :(

Still catching up on the posts; this has probably been posted:
COVID-19: Attacks the 1-Beta Chain of Hemoglobin and Captures the Porphyrin to Inhibit Human Heme Metabolism

"The attack will cause less and less hemoglobin that can carry oxygen and carbon dioxide. The lung cells have extremely intense poisoning and inflammatory [response] due to the inability to exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen frequently, which eventually results in ground-glass-like lung images."

"According to the validation analysis of these finds, chloroquine ...effectively relieve the symptoms of respiratory distress."
Indicates that early treatment before the virus binds to too much heme would be more successful. MOO
Interesting that they are beginning to understand how the virus works.

I already have a kidney disease that causes me to waste CO2 and it's been really hard to keep it even in bottom normal range. It sounds like this could be really bad for me. That and the potassium wasting it supposedly causes. I've not read any updates though on of it's still supposed to cause potassium loss or not.

I don't have a handy link but pink eye has been reported in some covid cases. You need to contact Health Provider and proceed from there. Do take care and let us know. So sorry your Husband has lost co-workers.

I will call now. I will keep everyone updated. Hugs to you and everyone here

A 97-year-old great-grandmother who served as a corporal in the Women's RAF during World War Two is one of the oldest women in the world to beat coronavirus.

Joyce Goldstraw,
from Leek, Staffordshire, tested positive for Covid-19 after she fell ill on Monday 16 March.

The mother-of-three was admitted to Macclesfield General Hospital where she spent two weeks receiving treatment.

I am so glad Mrs. Goldstraw survived.

Cuomo presser now MSNBC or CNN.
“We will continue to stabilize if hospitalizations continue to decrease.”

Sadly the deaths are still rising due to 2 week lag.

This virus is a predator that attacks our vulnerable older citizens. We are staying home to protect them. Always been the reason.

Much to learn from this. Positive and negative.

Thank you. We got him an ice cream cake and will have pizza for his dinner. And he will be with family which makes him happy. And me happy.

Best to you and your family.

The total death toll since the outbreak came to light on February 21 rose to 17,669, the Civil Protection Agency said, the highest in the world.

The number of confirmed cases climbed to 139,422, the third highest global tally behind that of the United States and Spain.

a fifth consecutive daily decline, underscoring growing hopes that the illness is on the retreat thanks to a nationwide lockdown introduced on March 9.

Social media campaign - Cuomo:

Who are you staying home for?

He’s staying home for his mother, Mathilda.

Happy Passover. Remember from the past.
