Coronavirus death toll estimate is lowered from 82,000 to 60,000 and the peak day for death is brought forward to April 12 where more than 2,200 Americans are predicted to die in 24 hours, new data shows

The estimated death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in the United States has been lowered from 82,000 to 60,000 after new projections scaled back the number of fatalities over the next four months by 26 percent.

The updated projections has also brought forward the peak day of deaths to April 12 where an estimated 2,212 deaths are expected to occur over 24 hours.

Wow. Last I read it was 240,000. That's a huge decrease.

Today's video from dr. Campbell. He speaks to his opinions on many things we have been discussing the last 24 hours on the thread.

He talks about his opinion on how World Health Organization got it wrong and understands why Trump said what he did about who being China Centric, he talks about his opinions on why Africans Americans are more susceptible and why, he talks about vitamin D, he talks about Boris being on oxygen, and the difference between ECMO vs. Ventilation vs. CPAP, he talks about an entire Village in Italy that is doing testing on every single person near Rome and has closed down their border to the village completely to do these tests, he talks about a randomized antibody test project that is being done in the United Kingdom, which is like test that they do random for elections, to figure out how many people have been infected. And so much more that we have been discussing daily. He always tries each day to discuss what has been in the news the previous day. For those that don't know about dr. Campbell, and are new to the thread , many of us have been following him since thread number 2.

Cuomo presser now MSNBC or CNN.
“We will continue to stabilize if hospitalizations continue to decrease.”

Sadly the deaths are still rising due to 2 week lag.

This virus is a predator that attacks our vulnerable older citizens. We are staying home to protect them. Always been the reason.

Much to learn from this. Positive and negative.
What's the "two week lag"?

So in UK we are anticipating 4 more Nightingale hospitals in Manchester, Birmingham, Harrogate and Bristol. This doesn't sound to me like we are going to see cases and deaths falling very soon. MOO

NHS Nightingale begins treating first patients during coronavirus outbreak

This is the first Nightingale hospital which is 4,000 bed capacity, taking it's first patients.

tresir2012 What's the "two week lag"?

It typically takes 2 weeks (or more) for a patient to die of CV. So the death peak may happen around 2 weeks after the case peak.

So a two week death lag from first diagnosis. I wish they would get those malaria and ebola drugs in the treatment pipeline. I'd love to know the 15 locations where they are doing it.

I believe the theory is the people who are dying now are the ones who contacted the virus about two-weeks ago. (14 days from onset to recovery or severity or death). So, if about 14 days ago was the time most New Yorkers came down with the disease, this week will be the time of most deaths. IMO.

Do all of you expect a huge ‘Round 2’, post lockdown? I do, at least in my area. Once lockdown is lifted, I really don’t anticipate my life changing much from how I currently live.

My husband and I have made a list of doctors and dentists appointments we need to take care of during the break. If there is a break. We will still wear masks when's get possible.

wow... what April spiking in IN!! We can really "see" how it moved from the coasts inward. But yes, hopefully downward. Have you used this site?... COVID-19/Coronavirus Live Updates With Credible Sources in US and Canada | 1Point3Acres ...... I like it because I can break it down to state and county... (so I can check up on relatives friends too etc). They give those death rates by percentage by state and county as well.. I think it is updated twice a day..but basically do feel it is "real-time"

That is a useful link. Thanks!

'Despicable' men lick hands and wipe shop food

Looking for these two Covidiots to lock up. With a bit of luck they infected themselves.

Two "despicable" men who licked their hands before wiping them over meat, vegetables and fridge handles in a supermarket are wanted by police.

The pair walked into Sainsbury's in Morecambe, Lancashire, on Saturday afternoon.

Staff were forced to thoroughly disinfect the Lancaster Road store and destroy products, police said.

Lancashire Police has now released CCTV images of two suspects and appealed for information.

Insp James Martin, described the incident as "utterly despicable"

A 97-year-old great-grandmother who served as a corporal in the Women's RAF during World War Two is one of the oldest women in the world to beat coronavirus.

Joyce Goldstraw,
from Leek, Staffordshire, tested positive for Covid-19 after she fell ill on Monday 16 March.

The mother-of-three was admitted to Macclesfield General Hospital where she spent two weeks receiving treatment.

Great-grandmother, 97, becomes one of the oldest women to beat coronavirus | Daily Mail Online

I am so glad Mrs. Goldstraw survived.

Miraculous. It seems like we are reading many stories of very old adults surviving now. I wonder if Mrs Goldstraw was put on a ventilator or if she beat the virus without needing one? My understanding is that her age would mean she wouldn't qualify for a ventilator in some countries. Many countries have started to reserve the ventilators for the younger adults who are critically ill. I believe either Italy or Spain said anyone age 60 and above were no longer being given ventilators. I was horrified when I read that cut off age. But now I wonder if withholding the ventilators will actually mean more older adults will survive? It seems that ventilators are risky. And the last few days there has been discussion on if the ventilators might make it worse. Either way, these stories of very old adults surviving against the odds give us all hope. God Bless Mrs Goldstraw. :)

MOO.

Thanks... it certainly states how serious this issue is and as stated, Countries that have successfully avoided being overwhelmed by COVID-19 have used extensive testing and contact tracing.
Certainly South Korea's lead of this will hopefully teach others. It's almost as if we can get temporary employees (just like US 2020 census takers/workers) to be trained in contact tracing. Our WS group here would be a great pilot batch, don't you think?

I am just hoping that eventually we will actually get statistics of how long an asymptomatic person carries. And how soon we will be able to test EVERYBODY.

Coronavirus Incubation Period (COVID-19) - Worldometer

I am wondering if the info at this link could help with what you are looking at? Just came across it when looking at this site for all countries numbers.
