What is interesting is that the more out of control the outbreak, the sooner the peak, the more people sick and the more deaths, according to our projections.

That is the exponentional function they keep talking about.

With uncontrolled outbreak the medical system is overwhelmed and lots of people, who would have survived in other circumstances, die because there are no hospital beds, mechanical ventilators and medical staff- especially intensive care professionalists- for all patients.

And the medical staff then begin getting sick and dying, like it happened in Italy.
And the quality of their medical system was 4th in the world.

That is why the strategy of "flattening the curve" has being applied in most countries.

We showed up at our Local hospital at 6:45 p.m. as planned. Had a sign thanking workers with a big red heart on it. We caught those coming on shift and those leaving. It was amazing to see all the smiles on faces, thumbs up, Nurses yelling and waving at us from windows. Our Daughter was coming on shift for her 12 hr. midnight. She was beaming and took a pic. Such a very small gesture meant so much to them and to us.

We've decided to not take on debt for our restaurant utilizing these loans. We'd rather owe rent to our landlord, which is a very big real estate corporation, then to the government.
Just our plan, which of course, could always change...

The government's pay protection plan for small businesses is off to a rocky start. They have had difficulty getting banks to provide the loans. The banks have said that the government has not made clear how they should process such loans, even what forms are required.

China has excluded dogs from farm animals in a drafted directive, which could see canine meat being barred from the dinner plate across the country.

The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said it recognises dogs as 'companion animals' and 'not suitable' to be managed as livestock in the document released yesterday.

This means the proposal can potentially prevent around 10 million dogs being killed for their meat every year in the country.

Each of these drugs (hydroxychlorquine and Z-pac) could be bad for the heart. There is very little evidence that they do much (or any) good for covid. I am glad they are doing proper studies in US with control groups. Otherwise the drugs are being prescribed to people with very little evidence that they do any good for covid, and potential to cause serious harm. As of now, I fully believe it's far from being a magic bullet.

Most of the Americans are now sitting at home, not going to work. So they are using much more toilet paper at home than usual, since before they used toilet paper their workplace provided while they were working, and now they can't do that. Since people spend 8 hours at work, that's third of toilet paper they are no longer able to use.

Yes there was a video about this- did you see it? It said the same thing, that people are now using all their TP at home. The reporter’s investigator piece delved into this whole “toilet paper situation”.

The video talked about supply and production being an issue as far as meeting the demand, that these companies don’t store extra inventory for financial reasons, extra stock sitting in a warehouse.

He also said it’s not about “hoarding”, it’s about getting an increased supply so you can stay home and this is something that you know will be needed. (Paraphrasing)

Additionally, many manufacturers are in the specific corporate supply chain, and don’t have distribution via the major grocery chains. This is the cheaper toilet paper found in airports, etc.

I have no idea where that video is, may have been from a couple days ago.

Well, yes.

I guess the reason may be in the fact that Croatia has stopped all public transport between cities and also forbade car transport- if you want to drive 10 km to a nearby village, you have to have a license from government to do so.

They did this radically to prevent virus from spreading from bigger towns, and it was right thing to do.

But, as we have had massive earthquake in our capital, lots of people lost their homes and fled to the families all over the country and the police (they are all over the major roads) did not stop them- the people were just told to self- isolate for 2 weeks.

Some of them listened, some of them did not.

Also, we have a virus spread in two nursing homes, few hundred people in each of them plus workers... so, we will see.

All this projections were made in the beginning of the pandemic, with models of input that had rather changed in all of the countries, depending mostly on the population´s behavior.

Mostly, the people take this measures seriously, but some of them are not.

You know, it is kind of depressing to think that people of my generation (1971.) and older have fought war here, not so long ago, and the generation of our kids can´t endure few weeks at home, with running water, heating, electricity, food- and, not to mention, play station and Netflix.

Yeah, the nursing homes, anything that houses and cares for old people are being hit hard.

One part of me says someone/something wants to get rid of them and the other part of me says the health of the elderly isn't good, they die easily. Thing is , WHY are the nursing homes being hit this hard? Who works in them? Are they spreading the virus? Why? Have they not been tested? If not, why not, since they are in charge of such a volnerable population? What is WRONG with this scenerio?

Nursing homes are being hit hard because they are full of elderly people with pre-existing conditions. Those are the people who are most likely to die from covid. A lot of young people barely have any symptoms and can spread it around. Elderly are much more likely to die from it. They also live in large groups in nursing homes so it's easy to spread.

I never buy my meat from any of the above companies, but this is very, very bad news. This signals the start of the food supply chain breaking down. Millions of people in the US depend on these companies to produce affordable meat that they can buy to feed their families.

@margarita25 do you think this might be why the CDC changed their recommendations yesterday on when essential workers can go back to work? Perhaps they are trying to head off the total closure of our big food companies and failure of the food supply? I was scared last night when I saw those new recommendations and now I'm even more afraid.

Going to work even more on my garden now... and continue to pray for God's mercy.

IIRC some of those loans turn into grants if you keep your staff employed, I'm not sure what "employed" means, if they actually go to your establishment.

Nursing homes in general have had serious problems with patient safety and recruiting/retaining enough quality staff that long pre-date this pandemic. I highly doubt there's a conspiracy to kill off nursing home residents but I do think a culture-wide lack of respect and concern for older people is largely to blame.

Edit: also these facilities are like college dorms, but instead of young healthy people living in such close quarters, it's elderly people with serious health problems. Infectious diseases spread like wildfire.
