California and Canada are both reporting that 10% of testing kits don't seem to work. Maybe that's it.

However some research seems to show (in China, South Korea, Japan) that the same person can test positive one day, then negative a few days later, then positive again. No studies of how often that happens. But it would certainly cause people using tests in the field to wonder about accuracy.

A study seemed to show that samples taken from up inside the nose did not have this issue - it was throat samples, IIRC.

We definitely need two kinds of global testing (active cases and antibody cases) and then of course, the waiting game to see if people remain immune.

This will take more resources than we can possibly imagine right now.

this is why I'm still worried about my Dad
he tested negative but I don't trust the results

I lived in Quebec until 1984, and perhaps Quebec did something similar to what you described about the 1980s in Alberta.

I think that's how it worked until the mid-1980s. It was something like $30 per adult per month. Unemployed people applied for a subsidy and paid less. It wouldn't surprise me if the cost was included in taxes to protect the unemployed. There was a recession in 1987, people lost their homes.

Today, Canadians are oblivious to what they pay towards health care.

What should be done about people who do not comply with state requirements? Just a few examples:
1. Party where 6 were shot, 200 present, Bakersfield, CA
2. Life Tabernacle, 1,000 Easter attendance, Central, LA
3. Ammon Bundy "Defy Martial Law" Easter dinner, Emmett, ID
They want to be together that bad - put #1 group in a motel and secure it. Gate/fence/whatever. They can have their food and beer delivered and party on.
Sign a form saying they will not need medical services. Write their SS number on one arm. Maybe DNR on the other arm.

Who here finds that they put on sweats, go to bed in same sweats, then half way through the next day say "chit, I'm wearing the same thing I had on yesterday"... hehe not comparable to the college days "walk of shame" where you enter the dorm at 10 am the next day to have everyone see you wearing the same club outfit from the night before... and definitely looking the worse for wear.

um only the next day? I wear the same thing for several days
and I wear clothing in public that six months ago would've been unthinkable
there's a certain freedom with it, like not only do I not care if anyone's judging me, I doubt they are!
everyone has more important things on their minds I think
I know I do

I am finally getting around to doing all the stuff I have put off doing for years. The list seems endless. I wish it would stop so I could read a book, watch a movie anything but deal with THAT list. I'm exhausted!.

Yes, I am definitely operating on don't count the days, make the days count! I work as fast as I can on things I never get to. We each have a choice. This will end. Things will get back to usual. I choose not to waste all my time worrying. I am determined to come out of this better than I was before. Anything I can get clean, organized, straight, complete, made... whatever... will leave me better than I was.

Everyone else is ready to get out because they are bored. I'm exhausted and will need a nap, when its done.

Ugh, I've been a slug for about the past 10 days... I did a number on my sciatica last weekend and it still hasn't healed up. I've barely been able to pick up after myself or cook, because it's radiating all the way down my leg and interfering with my ability to move it in any direction. I did about 2,000 steps to the post office when it was unavoidable; half of those hurt nearly nonstop. 90% of the things I do that involve moving my leg in any direction, my inner calf lets out a shriek of pain-protest. Been trying to keep my spirits up nonetheless... but it's hard!
Hang in there. Let yourself heal. Things that can wait can do just that. We are here when you are having a tough time ((hugs))

I would like to share a story of my husbands friend who went into severe respiratory distress in the hospital and almost died from covid. He was just recently released from the hospital and is still on oxygen.

After 2 days of a high fever, he started vomitting and direaha. Along with that he started having the shortness of breath and couldnt breathe. His wife called 911 and an ambulance refused treatment. The next day he somehow drove himself to the hospital and went to the ER. He was admitted to the hospital and put in a room with another covid patient. He said once he was in the room, his condition worsened. The patient next to him died 5 hours after he was there. No one came in the room for the patient that passed away for hours. When they finally came in and removed the patient, my husband friend was in and out of consciousness but heard the doctors saying that he will probably pass in a few hours. They then brought in a new patient. The new patient same thing, all the machines were beeping and somehow my husbands friend got out of bed and sat on a chair and held the patients hand till he passed away. He stayed there for hours with the dead patient cause he didnt have the energy to get back to his bed. During the duration of his hospital stay he witnessed numerous patients pass away. He miraculously survived, although the doctors didnt expect him to. On the final day, that he thought would be his last, he begged doctors for the hydrochlorine meds. The doctor told him it could kill him. He said he didnt care and wanted it. He said after 2 days of receiving the meds, his breathing started to become somewhat normal and he started to get more strength. After a few days, he was released back home. He is home now and still receiving oxygen.

This story basically scared the **** out of me! Everyone stay safe! Wear your masks at all times. :(

wow that is frightening and sobering
poor guy

That is very good advice! I'm surprised that anyone is thinking about lifting restrictions at this time. It's almost as though there's some sort of competition to be the first country to successfully lift restrictions and keep the numbers down - kick start the economy regardless of whether it triggers another wave.

If a large group is partying just call the cops
non-emergency number so they can cite each party goer a $1000 citation thus generating some revenue for the city.

That's how it's done in my State. It's now illegal in my State to even go visiting house to house or drive to your vacation cottage but the real point is to keep people from having large gatherings and galavanting all over.

I am sure the cops won't have me in cuffs because I drive across town to go see my elderly dad who lives alone, or slap his neighbor with a $1000 fine because she still cleans his house..etc....I think it is all about common sense!

Dr. Sheldon Teperman: Every hospital in New York City is teeming with this virus. Right? In my place, there are hundreds and hundreds of patients. Many, many dozens of intubated, sick COVID patients. In the average place in New York City, whether it's NYU, Cornell, Presbyterian, Northwell, Stony Brook, there are hundreds of intubated COVID patients. And a lot of people are dying.

Dr. Sheldon Teperman is chief trauma surgeon at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. The borough has one of the highest COVID-19 death rates on earth. He runs four intensive care units full of critically-ill patients. His days, he told us, seem endless.

It's the same in hospitals all over New York City. Cross town at Brooklyn Hospital Center, overworked doctors and nurses with limited protective gear, some wearing trash bags bound with tape, race from emergency to emergency. At Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn, body bags line the hallway. One doctor called conditions there "catastrophic." After another 16-hour day, Jacobi Medical Center's Dr. Teperman came to us exhausted. We maintained social distance, each in a different New York City location.

People need to stay home. New York City is on fire

There are moments in the hospital, you know, where the virus conceivably is pluming into the air because a procedure is being done that creates an aerosolizing of the virus. I mean that's just a fact. Those are the true N95 moments.

Sick doctors, nurses and not enough equipment: NYC health care workers on the fight against the coronavirus

Perhaps not suprising for the literal worst hospital in the country.

"A sobering new report has labeled Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx as the worst in the country for patient safety.

According to Consumer Reports, 30 of the over 50 lowest-rated hospitals in the country are in the New York City metropolitan area."

Jacobi Named Worst Hospital In The Country

This is a real story. Yes, scares me too, but glad you shared it. It'll help me stay strong staying home and wearing my masks if I venture out.

It's another Hydroxychloroquine success story. So happy he survived.

Long drug name shrunk down by me. :)
