Had a bit of a scare yesterday. Went for a morning bike ride alone and, long story short, wrecked my bike, flew over the handlebars, smashed my phone, and despite being bruised and bloody, was damn lucky I didn't break any bones. Have bad cuts on my thumb and leg and am really sore today (my shoulder hurts worse than anything today and that's not where any of my visible injuries were).

Long story short: my Easter was not what I expected but I feel very blessed that I didn't hurt myself worse and need to go to the ER. The last thing they need is me coming in there to take focus off other people and the last thing I need is having to go in there and get exposed. Perfect example of why staying at home is for everyone's benefit!
Ouch!

We are doomed if we lose Fauci. Absolutely doomed.

I don't feel that way. He has contradicted himself. I think a lot of the contradiction is because hindsight is 20/20. And we all know you don't speak badly of your boss. That said. I like the guy and hope he sticks around.

I interpreted his tweet as saying the criticism and call to fire Fauci was fake news.

You are exactly right. Additionally, Fauci has asked the MSM (and those that parrot them) not to pit he and Trump against each other, but people continue this shameful behavior.

Five ways coronavirus is disrupting the food industry
1. Milk down the drain
This issue is not only being seen in the US, with dairy farmers in the UK asking for government help because of their own surplus problems. Peter Alvis, chair of the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, says about five million litres per week are at risk.

2. Crops go to waste
The New York Times, which interviewed some US producers, cited an example of one chicken processor having to smash 750,000 unhatched eggs every single week. They also spoke to an onion farmer who was having to let most of his harvest decompose, unable to re-distribute his onions in high enough qualities and without the facilities to store them.

3. Not enough workers
There has also been a 'Feed the Nation' campaign launched in the UK to encourage domestic workers to plug any labour gaps to avoid food waste.

4. Changing our shopping habits
The pandemic has led to some changes in what we are trying to buy. For example, the UK has seen demand for flour soar in recent weeks as people stuck at home increasingly turn to home-baking.

According to new data, cited by BFMTV, French shoppers have increasingly been buying more organic food since coronavirus fears took hold of the country.

5. Stock is sitting unused
Take UK pub closures for example. Much of the industry's current supply of lager and ale could now go to waste under government rules which mean they could be closed for the foreseeable future.

Some beers have a best-before date of just weeks - which means thousands of unused barrels in pub basements could be undrinkable by the time the lockdown is lifted.

..But it's not bad news for everyone

Some parts of the food industry are benefiting from our changing consumption habits.

US sales of orange juice, which had been on a gradual decline, are said to be up 38% on last year's figures.

The so-called "futures" price of orange juice has soared in recent weeks. "The Covid-19 outbreaks are hitting both the supply and demand for orange juice," Stephen Innes, chief global market strategist at broker AxiCorp said last month.

"The immune-boosting properties are the demand-side attraction while there are simply not enough tanker spaces, with airlines not flying, to bring the product to markets."

The demand is good news for orange growers, especially in Florida and Brazil - who supply big brands like Tropicana.
I wonder if we'll ever go back to being the "buy buy buy and then buy more" country. Wise people will be reluctant to spend time browsing in the malls and supermarkets, IMO, for the next couple of years. Besides, there will be so many ppl with so little money. Just do the outer aisles of the supermarket where the real food is, and get the heck back out into fresh air.
I started a down sizing, "use it up, make it do, or do without", about 5 years ago, and I hardly remember what all that stuff even was that I gave away, it was so unnecessary.

Over the weekend, four additional Theodore Roosevelt Sailors were admitted to the hospital for monitoring. All are in stable condition, none are in ICU or on ventilators," the official said.

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the Roosevelt was at the center of a controversy that led to the resignation last week of acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly, who had dismissed the aircraft carrier's captain Brett Crozier after the leak of a memo in which he implored Navy officials to urgently evacuate the ship to protect the health of its sailors.

"We are not at war. Sailors do not need to die. If we do not act now, we are failing to properly take care of our most trusted asset: our Sailors," he wrote in the memo that three US defense officials confirmed to CNN.

We're learning who some of them were, what they did and what they were passionate about.

Those lost to the coronavirus include a former New York fire marshal who sprang into action on 9/11, a mother to six who was battling breast cancer and four members of a New Jersey family.

You know how it is, Gardenista. Some people seem to love "parroting" MSM despite being asked not to pit people against each other. Shameful behaviour indeedy.

I like Dr. Fauci. But IMO, his performance has been spotty. And he is not an economist or a politician (nor should he be).

Early on, he seemed like the only adult in the room.

Then, when the IMHE models downgraded to expected CV deaths from 150,000, to 80,000, and then to 60,000; Dr. Fauci said the improvement was due to successful social distancing. This was not true, and he knew it, the models already accounted for social distancing, and were revised down based on new data and assumptive inputs to the model. But his response was to keep people scared and "doing the right thing". Dr. Fauci cannot be the one to spread misinformation, we need someone to tell us the truth.

Then I saw Dr. Fauci on CNN last night getting peppered with tough questions from Jake Tapper. I was impressed with his handling the questions and how he answered.

So Dr. Fauci is back on my good list.

I saw that a few minutes ago. He cared for his "positive" wife for weeks, and now he has it, but he says he is asymptomatic, no nada.

Asymptomatic, yet he got a test. I'm not sure he's telling the whole truth.

Emergency officials advised residents that sheltering for safety from the storms took priority over the social distancing guidelines in place to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency emphasized that people should have a safe place to go -- and if that's a public shelter, to continue practicing social distancing.

"If you go to a public shelter please wear a mask, bandana, or scarf around your nose and mouth," MEMA tweeted.

The East Coast is under the gun Monday, with the possibility of ferocious winds, more tornadoes and hail.

More than 39 million people in at least 11 states and the District of Columbia are under the threat of severe weather Monday, CNN meteorologist Michael Guy said.

"The line of storms that produced the deadly tornadoes in Mississippi are moving through Georgia and over the Appalachians (Monday) morning," Guy said.

"Wind gusts from Georgia up through New England today could be upwards of 50 mph, with some areas in the Northeast getting gusts in excess of 70 mph."

"We have strong winds and heavy rain coming our way on Monday, New York City, so it's really simple: if you do not need to be outside tomorrow then STAY HOME," de Blasio tweeted.

He might be trying to put a CYA face on it, due to whatever contacts he's had with co-workers in the last couple of weeks. I never did believe that Rand Paul was asymptomatic, remember he got a test, and then while he was awaiting the (eventually positive) results he went to the senate gym, met with senators who subsequently went into quarantine because RPaul didn't tell them he was awaiting the test results. (Mitt Romney).

I hope it means people will realise they can go without fast food, and that our bodies need more healthy stuff. Where I live the local small businesses (butchers, farm shops, greengrocers) are doing a roaring trade right now and I hope this way of shopping continues forever.

No kidding.

How many confirmed cases are there in your area?

These graphs make me wonder if UK has "peaked".

Another 717 deaths today, just announced. The percentage is falling anyway.

Coronavirus: Spain loosens lockdown as new infections slow - BBC News

UK death toll reaches 11,329

The number of people who have died in the UK after being hospitalised and testing positive for coronavirus has now reached 11,329.

The government's department for health and social care said it is a rise of 717 from Easter Sunday's total.

I hope we've peaked (or are at least near it) but I daren't hope too much in case it's just skewed Bank Holiday weekend figures. I'm watching Italy and Spain with interest as they start relaxing their lockdowns, I believe we're a couple of weeks behind so we will see what happens.

Italy

Will We Heed Lessons Learned From Italy's Bergamo COVID-19 Infections, Deaths?
Apr 1

“He said that if we let people return to work too soon, it will reignite the outbreak and the fire will return. This, he added, will cause devastating damage, not only for people but also for the whole economy, because it will continue and not end.”

It’s like we are getting on top of the main fire but someone is lighting spot fires everywhere.
They keep bringing in plane loads of infected people from overseas and on ships here.
Charter flights are charged at $15,000 per seat and then into a 4 or 5 star hotel for 2-3 weeks all at our Govt’s expense.
They all had enough time to get home!

This virus will keep reigniting at this rate.
Rant over but c’mon!

My farmer's market group was chit chatting the other day. At least 2 of us are having a terrible time keeping inventory in stock. I'm a soapmaker and flat out of soap. The other is grass fed beef.
