I was just thinking today, after seeing a TV show that was filmed in Las Vegas----WHAT THE HECK IS GOING TO HAPPEN THERE?

Is anyone going to want to go to casinos anymore? I can't imagine a more 'germy' experience...

Here in California, our Native American Tribes make a good amount of their income with our local casinos. They are all closed down now. Will they ever reopen and prosper?

I sometimes drive up the beautiful coast highway to Santa Barbara to go to Santa Ynez Chumash Casino with my neighbour. We have a great time. But I cannot see doing that anytime soon ---IF EVER anymore.

That will have a big economic impact if those casinos go under.

And Vegas???? What will they do?

Based on comments from Mnuchin yesterday at the WH press conference it sounds like Vegas will get bailout money but smaller casinos will be out of luck.

<modsnip: quoted post was removed>

If they're gonna ask questions I wish they would ask what the public wants to know. For instance the food chain, supply chain. Are we gonna starve? What about production, processing, distribution, retail etc.?

I like that idea. Maybe it needs to be questions from the American citizens, what we care about.

Very informative, but depressing info about ventilators. I am finding much more hope in some of the drug treatments that seem to stop the “cytokine storm” that CV-19 seems to create.

Doctors Concerned About Lung Damage to Coronavirus Patients from Long-Term Ventilator Use

This was a success! Actemra
Emergency room doctor, near death with coronavirus, saved with experimental treatment

"The doctors tried a drug called Actemra, which was designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis but also approved in 2017 to treat cytokine storms in cancer patients."

Sounds hopeful!
FDA permits study of local company drug to prevent COVID-19 patients from needing ventilators -

"The drug, CM4620-IE, will be given through an IV (intravenously) to patients who have severe COVID-19 pneumonia. It aims to keep them from ‘crashing’ even though their ability to breath on their own may be declining. The developmental drug is potent and acts fast to block the production and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines from immune cells."
So informative, and so heartwarming too. Thank you for sharing... I think we are going to be learning more about the immune system that might have only come about in decades rather than months... We are jut learning so much.

This is from 10 days ago but hopefully it's still accurate.
Agriculture Secretary Perdue: Despite coronavirus, America’s food supply is safe, secure and abundant

While the coronavirus pandemic continues, I can assure the American people that our food supply is strong and safe. We have great patriots working across this country who continue to support our food supply chain.

From the production of equipment, feed and fertilizer; to the farmer who puts the seed in the ground; to the packers, processors and truckers who bring that food to the market; to the grocers getting that food to consumers, America’s food supply is safe and secure.

The bare store shelves you see in some cities across our country are a demand issue, not a supply issue. There is enough food in the United States to feed our citizens.

snip

There are over 800 commercial and public warehouses in the continental 48 states that store frozen products. Here is a snapshot of the food we had in storage at the end of February: over 302 million pounds of frozen butter; 1.36 billion pounds of frozen cheese; 925 million pounds of frozen chicken; over 1 billion pounds of frozen fruit; nearly 2.04 billion pounds of frozen vegetables; 491 million pounds of frozen beef; and nearly 662 million pounds of frozen pork.

These numbers don’t even include the massive fresh food supply chain that is currently distributing millions of pounds of food every day from the farm to grocery store shelves. The bottom line is we have enough food to feed ourselves during the coronavirus national emergency.

There are over 6,500 food safety workers on the front lines working in 175,642 commercial facilities across the country and inspecting nearly 164 million head of livestock and 9.83 billion poultry carcasses. They are conducting 7.1 million food safety and food defense procedures to verify that systems at all federally inspected facilities continue to maintain food safety requirements. Our food is safe, and we have our inspectors ensuring that remains the case.

I’ve got to ask, what is American cheese? Because when I googled I got images of Kraft slices and I hope to god that’s not what everyone is craving?!
I know, right? I’m surprised, but yes, that is it. We keep some around for grilled cheese. The stuff lasts forever, so if you run out of good cheese, you can always fall back on this.

ETA- It also comes in blocks in boxes and it is useful because it is very creamy when it melts. It’s the easiest to make Mac and cheese with. Mac and cheese is its own food group here in America!

But who is there to harvest the crops? The farmers usually bring in workers to help them do that work. And that is not possible right now with the pandemic.

People in food production are not out of work. I believe many of those workers would be glad for the work. It is sure a "better work environment" than those meat plants! ugh.

I think it's just good old block Cheddar. It's weird they can't get that in Oz.

My takeaway was as the presser started I was watching on Fox. Out of curiosity I switched to several other stations and those decided to cut away from the beginning thus making the decision for its viewers and not allowing the viewer to make their own decision. Wasn't that nice of them...not.

BBM. Nah, I turned it off on my own when I saw it was a purely political event.

Looked this morning and it is in the bank!

Hmmm, wonder if they are getting them out by birth date or last name alphabetically? Is your last name Aaaaardvark who was born at 12:01 on January 1st? :D

That's what it is. I've made many different cheeses, soft and hard but American has it's own unique flavor, texture and process. I've never been able to make it. IMO it isn't as healthy for you as other cheeses.

Excuse me while I faint :p is it even actually cheese?

Unemployment is about 30% and students are out of highschool and university. Although foreign agricultural workers have experience and training that students are lacking, farmers in Ontario are getting some of the critical, time sensitive work done with the help of local students.

One thing that greatly pained me in the news this week, was Trump's announcement that foreign workers could be paid less this year. That just seems so wrong. Why not give the farmers some support to hire these essential workers at a fair wage?

White House Seeks To Lower Farmworker Pay To Help Agriculture Industry

absolutely... we just need some PLANNING.... it can be done. Nothing is easy these days........ but there are experts out there. And there are workers, just as you have expressed. The waste is just so...so.. awful.
my friend tried to send me velveeta but customs took it and yes i love american cheese

mac and cheese is my favorite meal ever and i can never get the right cheese!

Then I assume you are talking about Cheddar, which is not what we refer to as "American Cheese". Some cheddars in the US are good, though I still prefer Euro brands I can get. But American is just that..."American Cheese". Those chewy square slices that taste like flavored cardboard. jmo, moo, imo, jmo.who

I will look out for other reports of the briefing to see what they say.

This isn't about yesterday's but prior ones.

This is the Guardian and others I am seeing seem worse and indicate the networks cut some of the briefing out.

"Wounded by media scrutiny, Trump turned a briefing into a presidential tantrum | US news | The Guardian" Wounded by media scrutiny, Trump turned a briefing into a presidential tantrum

This is from the Telegraph, a conservative MSM

This is the last link I'll post. I cannot find a positive report about the briefing yesterday but maybe others can.

Nope. It’s not cheddar. It’s its own thing.
Oh, alrighty then! I guess I was basing my answer on info we got from our favorite bar and grill in Gulfport Florida, O'Maddy's. Their burger says American cheese and we were told its cheddar. It is good!

I don't know. Folks in Mexico, who normally travel here for harvest, may not come this year. Or even be allowed entry.

But, there are plenty of other undocumented workers here, who are in a world of hurt right now. No hotels, restaurants are really working.
