Both my account and my mom's show the deposit as of this morning, listed as pending. We are both in California, both very low income, using different banks. I still think it's possible the lower your most recent reported income (last year's tax filing if this year's not yet sent) the sooner the payment.

We got ours today, as well (NY). Not sure about the income size, but we did file in mid-Feb and paid what was due immediately. I doubt that matters, though.

It's a tough balance. Myself, I would say try to get them now, since supplies are in short supply in many areas, and may be even less available in a week. For me, the risk of exposure is a lesser concern, only because it's out there, everywhere, and I assume I'm always at risk if I haven't already gotten it.

I haven't been out since 3/10. I really don't know what it's like out there. Not sure I want to know. What I do know is the closer we get to running out of food, the more I want to eat

Yes, I should have mentioned that I haven't filed either of our taxes yet this year (I do mom's taxes as she is no longer able). I was just getting into it when I heard the deadlines would be delayed and decided to take advantage of that.

Asking for opinions. Most of our food supplies will last for at least a couple more weeks but a few essentials will run out in about a week. Should I go out this weekend or wait until next weekend? Will one week lessen the risk of exposure?

Wife going shopping in the morning during the 6 AM Senior hour. I'll go Friday to the other store during Senior hour to get what she couldn't if available. Our feeling is go if we need something, usually fresh produce and fruit or meat, at off hours when less people are present. Quick in and out. Use credit card and wipe it with clorox disinfectant wipe before putting back in wallet. Wipe the cart handle also.

family in IN received theirs - dual income (just under married threshold) not sure income matters to the computer program. last name towards end of alphabet too. SSN's start with 31.... - would love to know the IRS algorithm that determined the actual sequence of processing these - IMO the first field in the database would be ACH=yes. But what was next? State? SSN? Last name? Amount of refund via DD? so many possibilities - don't we have a verified programmer here at WS???

Wow. This is really interesting. About 40-45% were CV+ but asymptomatic. First of all, that's a great overall stat to have figured out for that population, I'm truly amazed it wasn't higher.

Second, it means that yep, there are tons of asymptomatic people. Police, social workers, and homeless shelter workers all interact with the people in that shelter regularly, and that's true across the nation. The interior must be filled with living virus. PPE FOR ALL ESSENTIAL WORKERS!

And it needs to be real PPE, not makeshift. This is why places like L.A. are working frantically to get the homeless off the streets and out of the shelters and into hotels that aren't being used. Slow going.

For the record, this is true for a goodly number of items.

Maybe not for things that will eventually be used in the process of consumption <g>; but a good friend who is a cosmetologist, once told me one of the first things they learn in cosmetology school, is "don't get roped into believing the hype that "this bottle is only for this; this bottle is only for that." When you're at the gym and find you are out of product; you can rest assured that the free hand soap doesn't know it "shouldn't" be used on your hair. Soap is soap."

When I was a teen, in the dark ages, I would even use powder detergent and fabric softener on my hair.

Would we call Mayor Goodman a "Pandemic Denier"? She opposed closing casinos and schools. It was the governor of Nevada who called for the shutdown of casinos.

I doubt even if the casinos were open there would be many tourists. People are not flying unless they have to. Our airport looked deserted on the news the other day.

If it was free I would take it and pasteurize it myself. It's not hard to do even if you don't have a home pasteurizer.

So you'd be okay bringing the bacteria into your house. I guess you're ready, since you've got great hygiene routines. I wouldn't want the bacteria in my car and I don't think the dairies have containers for personal use - you'd have to bring your own (as would everyone else).

I don't know how they could ever distribute to the public, though, without the dairy workers constantly coming into contact with the public. Every single person would need working PPE.

I know Mother Earth News (and at one time, wrote a couple of articles for it - I was a hippie, guess I still am). They are right. If you had a cow, you should learn to do it.

Someone else's barn and cow? I'd have a hard time with it.

I don't really like just plain milk, I want it all to be made into cheese. And that I know I am absolutely terrible at. I tried to make paneer (sort of like cottage cheese) and it was awful.

Where (in general) are you? If you are in a place like where I live (suburb in hills north of L.A.), CV rates are very low. My DH still won't let me go and we're both planning to wait until the cases decline more.

Do you have to go on a weekend? Is there a small independent market where you can go early in the morning? Do you have a good mask?

Edit: Just saw your post on Ohio. If you are in Ohio, the peak is today through about Monday. If people are social distancing in grocery stores (is there a store that's limiting the number of customers?) I'd probably wait 10 days if you can. That's if you are in an at risk group. The reason I say that is that obviously, at the peak, there are also a lot of asymptomatic people...who are still contagious. It's something that's very hard to get across to the public.
