Apparently 1/3 of Americans believe this conspiracy theory. I’m with the other 2/3, putting my faith in what scientists overwhelmingly believe. Until that changes, this remains a conspiracy theory to me.

We were SO LUCKY for a change.

My husband 'formally' retired from Disney TV/Animation in early February. At that time, they took our 401K OUT of the bond market and put it into a savings account, as we were transferring it to our own bank IRA.

LUCKILY, we did not get hit by the stock market drop , and we haven't put it back into the market yet.

Our son thinks we should put half back in because it's going to go up. My husband agrees but I am dragging my stubborn feet still.....but your post is a reminder that it will probably go up.

But we are nearing 70, and I don't want to take a big hit on our retirement savings, this late in the game.
That sure was great timing to escape the violent downturn in the market.

We are also lucky in that our 401K (Federal Govt) provides a fund that is safe from market fluctuations and its principal is guaranteed. So we parked all of money in that fund right before the big drop. We will be watching the market very very closely to jump in. At the right time-the coronavirus vaccine cannot come soon enough.

To all that shared such traumatizing stories of loved ones being on a ventilator, thank you. I know it is hard to re-live such horrifying times. It opened my eyes and I appreciate it. I think that if I have to go on a ventilator, it is time for me to leave. My children are grown, I still work and not quite to retirement age, but I don't want to become a burden to anyone.
I appreciate you sharing the pain and the truth with us.

Hopefully, no one of us will face this situation. I have worked full time for many many decades and I want to retire some day and grow my vegetable garden and flower garden. ETA, I also want to do something to give back to the community -not sure what but something that makes a difference to someone.

This is a fed projection. Example: Minnesota's own peak projection is mid-July.

Trino, where did you get MN projection??? I would like to find my state and compare it to the Fed. projection. TIA.

  • #648
Separate post to say, I can't even imagine watching a child go through it. It is just heartbreaking and I do not know how strong I could be or how I would handle a symptomatic adult child right now. It's all terrifying.

And it has gone on so long that we are now into the psychic nightmare of it. There's not much else we can do as a society. Sooner or later, we all face it. And CoVid makes us think about that.
I am not sure if it’s much different for anyone. When you love someone, you are just in such shock every day is just another hour of agony. You don’t even know how you keep going. I remember when she was released from the hospital she came home with me for awhile, and I was so tired. I thought if I really went to sleep I would never wake up. My husband and I have talked about life support. I was once all for it. But I was younger then. I am prepared to go when it’s my time. If it’s an emergency I told my husband to do what he feels is right but not to prolong anything. He feels the same way. I don’t think anyone can understand until they age. Even now though, I don’t want the government or anyone else to tell us when we need to leave here. Sometimes I feel that’s what we are coming to as a nation.

Yikes, do you have a link for this? The IHME model has 2.5 weeks for the peak in Minnesota. If the peak were actually to be in July, what we are doing is ineffective.

Sounds like you've got the right idea. I remember what my father said concerning his financial investments, "At my age, I'm not as concerned with the return on my money as I am with the return of my money."

Should I assume that entities like airlines and trains will begin running at the earliest times possible (unless they have to cross the boundary of a state that has a longer quarantine)?

How will that get worked out. How will truckers drive into another state, if that state has "essential goods only" in place?

I want to know badly.

I hope you get to do that! You are still young.

HA!! and Thanks. Since I am isolated for at least the next 2 weeks, I took a crazy plunge and colored my hair purple!!! Waiting for my eSALON order to come so that I can have presentable hair when I return to having to look presentable. I love the colored hair that youngsters have today and I thought 'heck, no one sees me except the pups and the UPS guy, let's get crazy and have purple hair'. Too much wine when I made that decision.

Funny! I have a friend who got questionable mammogram results, she was pessimistic about losing her beautiful waist length hair. So she dyed it bright purple and showed us all on facebook. Then a few days later she got a negative test result. But we were all so happy for her. She just left it like that, even when growing out.

Right. I've had a long time joke - that I was saving my ONE TIME for anesthesia/intubation for the "last time." Then, while under propofol (great drug, ha), I suddenly needed intubation. For only 45 minutes. I think I am pretty much over it, it was 3 months ago, but then again - something shifted. It wasn't brain damage, it was the realization I'd used up that "one time" thing. I know that my risks are now significantly higher of needing intubation (for different reasons though)

It's even down to which hospital I would choose to go to. If you know what I mean.
I’m very specific about hospitals based on what I have personally observed - my chances are better elsewhere IMO

Good for you! I said when my hair grew back after cancer treatment I was going to dye my hair purple. I haven't yet and it's been a few months. I do have a couple of purple wigs I ordered but never wore. I just have to work up the courage lol.

I just wish this colored hair was 'in' when I was younger. It is really uplifting to do something so crazy - purple hair - and of course it can be undone when needed.
I never thought me, Miss Conservative, would be so adventurous. Nobody, I know would ever believe my purple hair - guess I need to take a picture. I am enjoying the purple hair and in 2 weeks it will be back to dark blonde (BORING).

I was just reading this and watching the videos..... The stay at home orders and social distancing is put into place to save everyone, even those protesting. I just don't understand.
Can someone explain why this is happening (protesting)? I am glad of the stay at home order. Keeps me and my family safe!

MOO,
I feel like everyone will end up getting this at some point, but the longer you stay away from it, the better the understanding of this virus and hopefully, the treatments will be. IMO
I totally agree with you.
WE had a State protest today at our state capital and all I could do is shake my head and call them all idiots.
If everyone would just hunker down for awhile, practice the social distancing, we could beat this, but oh he$$ no...they all (over 1,000) had to go to protesting about their rights.
I just SMH and will stay home and do what I have to do to protect myself and my family.
But, yeah, I understand you, completely
