Not sure if this has been posted, if it has sorry to repost

This is where all 50 states stand on reopening

I think the Governor of my state is insane at the moment.

I personally feel that any state trying to reopen around May 1st, needs to change their date. May 1st is too soon IMO.

I’m so sorry about your Governor. I am very grateful for the sensible Gov. Kate Brown here in Oregon.

Oregon

Gov. Kate Brown issued an executive order directing Oregonians to stay at home on March 23 that "remains in effect until ended by the Governor."

Brown announced a joint Western States Pact with California Governor Gavin Newsom and Washington Governor Jay Inslee on April 13.

In terms of the timeline for reopening the states, the statement says the state will "need to see a decline in the rate of spread of the virus before large-scale reopening, and we will be working in coordination to identify the best metrics to guide this."

Brown said she would not ease restrictions before seeing five components in place: declining growth rate of active vases, sufficient personal protective equipment, surge capacity in hospitals, increased test capacity, contact tracing and isolating positive cases, and strategies to protect vulnerable communities.

In other words, it is just old people and people who have other health issues who die.

Get back to work. Nothing to worry about.

That seemed to be more or less the song and dance number we received at work. No, it wasn't that blunt, but it took an hour to "discuss" the plan. And that is what it sounded like to me.

I guess that the fact that my husband is in that category is irrelevant.
I predict that they are going to insist that kids are sent to school or daycare or summer camp, and back it up with a penalty, no unemployment, no programs, either go back to work "now that your kids are in school". Or you're on your own. Kids as guinea pigs to support corporations.

So we stay inside our homes for another few weeks, months, perhaps next year - separated from our family, trying to get food on a regular basis via delivery/pickup, medicine shortages, shut off from friends - while we wait for a vaccine or death from the virus. This is what my elderly aunt and uncle told me this evening.

That is pretty much what my husband thinks. He is done with "living like a housecat". He has made appointments for things he wants to do, and is ready to move on with living his life.

He refuses to live the rest of his life in the house. Not seeing his friends or family. Okay.

I am wondering if they are thinking that the youngest are the least vulnerable, over all...?

And maybe that they think the children need to be in school before parents can start going back to work---especially because the grandparents are the most high risk, vulnerable group---and cannot babysit safely?
Definitely, someone needs to be at home with kids if schools are closed. How can parents go to work with the kids at home? What about one parent families? Schools today provide more than education. They are baby-sitters, breakfast and lunch cafes, nurses, and social get-togethers.

Several universities and the NCAA are pondering the fall football season. Billions would be lost if cancelled. My bets are on it being money over safety. We’ll see.

After Anonymous Tip, 17 Bodies Found at Nursing Home Hit by Virus

The call for body bags came late Saturday.

By Monday, the police in a small New Jersey town had gotten an anonymous tip about a body being stored in a shed outside one of the state’s largest nursing homes.

When the police arrived, the corpse had been removed from the shed, but they discovered 17 bodies piled inside the nursing home in a small morgue intended to hold no more than four people.

“They were just overwhelmed by the amount of people who were expiring,” said Eric C. Danielson, the police chief in Andover, a small township in Sussex County, the state’s northernmost county

Even before the pandemic, the nursing home had struggled. Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation II recently got a one-star rating of “much below average” from Medicare for staffing levels, inspections and patient care.

This is absolutely horrifying. And not even surprising. Why didn't they call anyone? I hope that some people are fired. Inexcusable.

From the article:

The 17 were among 68 recent deaths linked to the long-term care facility, Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center I and II, including two nurses, officials said. Of those who died, 26 people had tested positive for the virus. "The cause of death is UNKNOWN".

And I have absolutely no doubt, will be happening in Florida.

Old and sick people are always the most vulnerable. The difference is we're not having flu and pnuemonia statistics thrust at our faces 24/7. Presumably, if someone is old and sick, they aren't going back to work. If someone is more concerned about the virus than a broken hip or pneumonia, then they can take extra precautions that don't require shutting down the ecoonomy and harming everyone...particularly oldsters relying on retirement savings to get by. jmo

There's zero evidence that people under 20 are significantly impacted by this virus.

Where is the evidence they don't spread it?

They can be asymptomatic carriers even if they don’t get sick. So if the kids go back to school, it’s still not safe for grandparents to be with them.

I'm sure they spread it. But their classmates are also unaffected. Maybe the sick and/or elderly teachers should stay home rather than shut down the entire education system impacting millions of kids who will never get sick?

Agree. Grandparents shouldn't be with them if they're concerned.

That's a decision for the family and how they handle it. If healthy young families want to quarantine their healthy young kids, I suppose that's up to them to decide. Meanwhile, the kids aren't at risk from going to school with other young people and the downside of cancelling school entirely is just tragic in so many ways, imo
Kids are at risk. Kids die from this virus. Maybe not as frequently as older adults. What about handicapped and vunerable kids in school? Healthy kids can be carriers - to home and to other kids.

Please post a link showing more than a couple of anecdotal cases of kids under 20 possibly dying from Corona.

I am raising my grandson. He has no parents. He has to be with me whether I am concerned or not.
