Maybe they'll be scared of people not wearing a mask (LOL).

I think some already are, most certainly in Asia, moo.

(Sorry for double post, sometimes “autopilot robot” automatically hits “post”.)

About how much protein are you taking in from sources? I've been wondering how much is actually adequate.
I don't count it. but you can find the goal for your weight easy on the internet. A little milk on the morning cereal. Various beans. Quinoa with evening meals, leftover quinoa in salads. About twice a week tuna patties made with an egg. A chicken breast I cut up right away and freeze it in pieces. This is a repeat of an experiment I did a couple of years ago...no white stuff, no bread, no white rice, nothing much in a package. Dropped trigylcerides by 50%, same with cholesterol, (212 to 150). Living alone makes it easier. And with the virus, no way am I going to saunter up to the corner store for a bag of Pepperidge farm chocolate mint cookies, lol.

Friends have brought dishes made with quinoa to potlucks. I really want to like it because I know how nourishing it is, but the texture is very off-putting for me. Any suggestions? :)
Maybe the quinoa you tasted wasn't cooked long enough or was too crunchy? Perfectly cooked quinoa is soft, nutty and delicious.

I’m glad to see others here posting about “clean eating”.

We all have our vices but this can be a good opportunity for some people to go with less flour, sugar, all those “enemies” to our bodies. Of course we have to give ourselves these treats or we’ll go crazy lol.

As for me, especially due to fibromyalgia, I eat very, very clean. No preservatives, no sugar, no flour, no processed foods, no high fructose corn syrup, no modified corn starch, no gluten, no hormones, no factory farming, free range, humanely raised, the list goes on. (Occasionally I’ll spurge on pizza or bread)

As I mentioned I’m so grateful for the food but the only soup they had in the store was progresso which has modified corn starch in it. My body hasn’t had these things and I hope it handles it okay because I have little choice.

Anyway I don’t do factory farming and requested an uncured free range no sodium erythrobite, nitrate etc ham. Well as I mentioned before, the shopper grabbed what he could which I soooo do appreciate and am very grateful for. Unfortunately it’s from Smithfield LoL. Yes the plant with 300 sick workers that’s shutting down. I’m grossed about to think about a bunch of CV positive people coughing and handling this ham. CDC said last month there is no risk of transmission, especially if you cook it, but it’s still far from appetizing.

Anyway I haven’t had nitrates in my body in who knows how long. And from a factory type plant ugg.

It’s either eat this Coronavirus exposed chemically ridden and factory farmed piece of meat or starve Lol. I’m so grossed out by it I thought about tossing it but what a waste of food that would be and I WOULD NEVeR waste food, especially now.

I thought about seeing if I can trade it for some beer or something with a neighbor haha.

I’d gladly donate it if I could get out there to do so. I know people would love to have a ham right now.

Anyway, I’m going to cook and brown the heck out of it in slices, then put it in small portions in the back of the freezer for when I absolutely absolutely have to eat it. I’ll be very grateful when that time happens to have it, I’m sure. Right now I look at it and call it my “coronavirus ham”.

Hmm... Still waiting. They are over an hour late today..

Let us know when it starts please, pocketaccent. :)

If I'm out of oatmeal I use quinoa cooked with fruit, and milk. It seems to me that it is so versatile, to flow from breakfast food to soup or casseroles.
You could try cooking it longer to make it blander, or mix it with some other grain.
But I like the texture, so eat it as soon as it starts to cook. I discovered some quinoa flour, it is really great for thickening up a soup. So I guess I'm not much help, since I seek out textured foods.

I’ll have to try cooking it myself and see if it comes out better.

Try farro instead. I'm a texture person, and I don't like quinoa at all. Farro is great, though.

The Next Super Grain You Should Be Eating

This sounds good!

Maybe the quinoa you tasted wasn't cooked long enough or was too crunchy? Perfectly cooked quinoa is soft, nutty and delicious.

As I recall, it was soft, but it’s the little round grains that bothered us for some reason. I’ll try it and see if it comes out the way you describe.

Thanks everyone! :)

The new figures, released by the city’s Health Department, drove up the number of people killed in New York City to more than 10,000 and appeared to increase the overall United States fatality rate by 17 percent, to more than 26,000.

The numbers brought into clearer focus the staggering toll the virus has already taken on the largest city in the United States, where deserted streets are haunted by the near-constant howl of ambulance sirens.

Far more people have died in New York City on a per-capita basis than in Italy, the European country with the most deaths.

I just realized that babies born recently and the next 12-18 months are gonna think this is normal.
I could probably name off 50+ movies saying this is so. Not to mention some of our favorite Twilight Zones. It feels so surreal. I feel like I walk about in a dazed haze. In a dream or sleep walking state. Maybe time really is only an illusion.

I'm pretty sure restaurant staff will need masks. Which is why I ordered them.
If a face mask will be required at restaurants, how would you eat & drink?

For protein options, also consider tofu. It can be added to mostly anything (broth, soups, salads, etc.) and it absorbs the flavor of whatever you are cooking it with so it can be tasty, depending on what you cook it with. Good and inexpensive form of protein.

Grocery stores also have some pre-cooked tofu products, but mostly are fried, but some of them are very good. You could just stir fry some tofu with canned or frozen veggies if you don't have fresh vegetables. Also you can freeze it, or half a package at a time. I'm sure others have better tofu recipes than I have, mine are pretty basic.

I think this is odd. People need to self-isolate, to ensure they don't spread the virus, but taking a short drive to keep the engine running smoothly should not be a problem. I really don't understand why car insurance should be refunded. Is the policy on hold for a couple of months - if something happens during that time they are not covered by insurance?
I always thought there were rate scales depending on how many miles were typically driven. So if your rate is based on your usual, say, 1500 miles per month, and you're now driving more like 100 miles per month, a discount makes sense.

Friends have brought dishes made with quinoa to potlucks. I really want to like it because I know how nourishing it is, but the texture is very off-putting for me. Any suggestions? :)

I saw where you said you'd try making it yourself -- that's good, because it's like rice, in that it can easily be slightly under- or overdone and one of those might just make it unappealing for you.

I was also gonna suggest eating a lot of: tapioca pudding, rice pudding, cream of wheat, raspberry jam, crunchy peanut butter, and alfalfa sprouts, just to make that texture seem more normal? Kidding, sort of...

I made this a few days ago, turned out great, having the last serving for dinner tonight...
