I do, too. There is nothing political about this pandemic.

Yes, COVID knows no political boundaries, and there should* not be anything political about this pandemic. Political leaders should* defer to non partisan experts and base their policies on recommendations from their very best advisors.

Although many people are responsible for fighting the pandemic, government leaders are who we hold accountable. <modsnip>

Just wondering...Since there is such a push to get workers back...I’m just wondering who will be caring for babies/toddlers/preschoolers while parents work? Before this craziness some grandparents were babysitting, now that is a risk to grandparents. There were daycare centers or private sitters, but the germs that are passed through toddlers are enormous, (as much as I love babies).
Without a vaccine this will force some parents to leave their job because of lack of child care.
A lot of UK newspapers are mentioning 7th May but I don't know where they are getting that from. I am hoping for a phased return to normal like Spain. Eg. Construction workers. I have also seen some countries opening schools up to age 11 years old.

"UK lockdown could end 'with sector-by-sector plan' for firms | Politics | The Guardian" UK lockdown could end 'with sector-by-sector plan' for firms

"Ministers are looking at ending the coronavirus lockdown with a “gradual sector-by-sector approach” that could see vital industries such as manufacturing get back to work before less critical ones like entertainment, according to Whitehall sources.

Two officials said one of the main options being explored for ending the lockdown was the idea of a phased return by industry, with civil servants in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy among those looking at how it could work.

With UK-wide deaths at almost 900 a day, Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, confirmed on Thursday that measures to stem the spread of the disease would remain in place until there is evidence that the number of fatalities has reached its peak."

My comment - UK deaths are presently about 700 per day.

"Has coronavirus opened the door to mass electronic surveillance in the UK? | Gaby Hinsliff | Opinion | The Guardian" Has coronavirus opened the door to mass electronic surveillance in the UK? | Gaby Hinsliff

"It’s easy to see why government doesn’t want to have this conversation now, arguing that talk of exit strategies risks distracting from core messages about staying home. Although Dominic Raab is expected to announce on Thursday that lockdown won’t be lifted until after 7 May, that’s simply the earliest date for review; there’s no guarantee it won’t drag on longer.

Yet the implications of something like this need to be thoroughly explored before we move from blanket lockdown into what could be a more fluid and personalised version, where we might get something like our lives back but have to live with knowing they could be snatched away again. Ironically, it’s probably those libertarians howling loudest for an end to lockdown now who’d naturally hate the idea, while for others it will sound like a price worth paying for escape. Right now, I’d probably download it like a shot. But until some basic questions are answered, we just don’t know what we might be sacrificing for freedom."

MOO. I hope it is sooner than 7 May. I just think that they want to get past another bank holiday.

I think 7th May is being mentioned as we’re expecting another 3 weeks lockdown to be announced on Thursday

Today's US death toll is 26, 064, the largest yet, and we are considering opening things up?
I think the numbers are higher because we are peaking and testing more.

I am bumping my post for any who missed it because it has info in it about
1. Testing
2. Remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine and zinc treatments.
3. Convalescent plasma.
4. Stimulus payment info and procedures.

HTH.

I don't doubt that there are different medical treatments being used in different countries around the world. It would be interesting to see what treatments are being used and compare that to how successful countries are at lowering their death rates. I realise that it's not that simple and that there may be factors other than treatment protocols that are affecting the death rates, but it might be informative even so.

The international average of cases that have an outcome, is about 80% recovered, and 20% died. I believe it may be informative to look at the treatment protocols of countries with a higher recovery/lower death rate, and learn what they are doing.

I don't know where that date came from originally though. Did Raab mention it or have MSM just plucked it out of the ether? I think that's too long. I'm getting stir crazy.

Agree....

I had a note last night from the library talking about renewal of books. They have previously sent out info re this, but the email yesterday gave a specific time credit for overdue books to May 11, which I found significant as it would tie in with a May 7 end of lockdown date.

plus our BH this year is Friday May 8, which again would fit nicely with a lifting of at least some restrictions.

I think MSM have just added 3 weeks to the April 16 review date, which gets us to May 7. I don’t remember anyone...Raab etc...stating an exact date.

They were the only ones Trump mentioned in that briefing which is what I was summarising, but I agree that worldwide there are probably a lot more treatments happening.

So we have gone over 2 million cases tested now. I wonder how many untested/undiagnosed on top of that.

Oh no everyone would flock to the beaches on May 8th then. Let's hope for at least a week or two earlier in phases/regions. MOO.

Chicago jail becomes virus hotspot after giving 'insufficient' soap when bigger bars used for beatings

The COVID-19 Struggle In Chicago's Cook County Jail

ap_20101802449530-915e5afe09cc5456ef0968d72ecce59055885768-s1600-c85.jpg

Nurses and community faith leaders participate in a protest outside the Cook County Jail in Chicago, on April 10, 2020, calling for the release of prisoners from the jail.

A prison in Chicago that has become America's top coronavirus hotspot is providing inmates "insufficient" travel-size soap after they used normal bars to beat one another.

Chicago Cook County jail has recorded more than 350 corona virus infections  making it the largest known source of the disease in the country - ahead of the nursing home in Kirkland, Washington where the first death occurred.

I am going to go with my gut feeling and say the lockdown will be in place until late next month. Even then, I won’t be hurrying to go out as I wonder how quickly the second wave will kick in.
This time last year, I was making weekly treks between London and Nottingham for meetings with a customer. I was exhausted and I remember, on the way back home late one evening, thinking what I wouldn’t give to work from home undisturbed for a few weeks. Ha. Be careful what you wish for.

Coronavirus: Stars join Sesame Street special to help kids 'feel connected' during lockdown

Sesame Street is broadcasting a special episode to help children in coronavirus lockdown "feel connected in this time of uncertainty".

The half-hour "virtual playdate" will see Elmo joined by actress Anne Hathaway, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, and actress and TV host Tracee Ellis Ross - daughter of singing legend Diana Ross.

Grover, Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby will also feature in Tuesday's programme.

Ellis Ross plays a game of "Elmo Says", Miranda pops in for a few rounds of Old McDonald Had a Farm, while Hathaway and Elmo will get moving with Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.

"With help from our distribution partners around the world, this special will encourage parents and kids to gather and relax as a family, in a way that only the Sesame Street Muppets can."

Question. Have you, or anyone you know received Any of the billions of dollars promised?
We know of nobody getting anything.
We're in California, maybe it's being released State by State?

:D:D:D:DI just looked, and I have an "ACH Credit IRS Treas Tax Ref" for $1,200 that just hit my bank account as a deposit overnight.

ETA: It was gone last week before I received it. I gave the amount to help those more in need than myself. My little part to help others.

In a report disseminated Monday to companies across the nation, and obtained by CNN, the FBI's Office of Private Sector notified members of private industry they should be on the lookout for fake doctors notes and falsified documentation from employees claiming positive Covid-19 test results.

The bureau report warned that the steps a company must take to stop business operations and sanitize work spaces could lead to significant financial loss.

As one example, the FBI report described an incident in March where an employee working for an unidentified "critical manufacturing company" told their bosses they had tested positive for Covid-19 and submitted what appeared to be documentation from a medical facility.

In response, the company shut down the affected manufacturing facility to disinfect the location, ceasing production and halting delivery of necessary materials to the plant," the FBI report stated. "The company notified all employees at the facility, including four workers who had close contact with the reportedly infected employee and were required to self-quarantine."

More than 80 million Americans will receive stimulus payments of up to $1,200 in their bank accounts Wednesday as the federal government injects vast sums of money into the economy left battered by stay-at-home orders.

The cash influx comes a day after the U.S. saw the highest number of deaths during the coronavirus crisis, more than 2,200, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. The previous highest daily death toll was 2,108, on Friday, but the daily total had declined steadily the last three days.
