You know what sort of burns me...all of my kids are working. As "essential workers". And unemployment benefits are being increased by $600 a WEEK! On top of the weekly benefit amount. With an extension available.

That is more money than two of my kids make, working fulltime. At "Essential Jobs". It is a typical government program that seems to reward people who don't have jobs.

My daughter is actually very angry about it. Her friends are planning trips, buying new clothes. Meanwhile, my daughter goes to work every day, for less money than her friends will get on unemployment.

There is something very wrong about this picture.
I heard this morning about a $2000/month program (on the radio) and sure enough - it's true -new proposed program
House Democrats propose $2,000 monthly payments to Americans

I don't understand where all this money is going to come from - the unemployment increases, etc - we will pay for it down the road IMO - one way or another.

I have no words. Someone please tell me he was misquoted or his words were taken out of context.
I thought it best not to comment when I saw that earlier.

Coronavirus in Scotland - Lockdown 'at least three more weeks' - BBC News

  1. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tells opposition leaders that the current stringent measures in force should remain for a further three weeks
  2. Ministers from the four nations are expected to agree later on extending lockdown into May
  3. A truer picture on fatalities linked to Covid-19 shows that more than 1,000 people have died in Scotland
  4. Scotland’s Championship, League 1 and League 2 football season has come to an end with a majority vote by its members
  5. Scottish farmers make a plea to walkers and cyclists to respect the countryside while lockdown is operating

Seriously. Where is the incentive to get a job at Amazon, UPS, Instacart, whatever, when you get more money for staying home?

Meanwhile, my daughter is literally being worked to the ground. When the virus first came around, the store told people if they wanted to quit, they would be considered "laid off". Many left. And they are now getting UI benefits.

It is craziness. But, what else is new lately?!

Wuhan lab as source is still under investigation, not conclusive finding yet, but needs to be taken seriously as a possibility. Regardless of source of virus in Wuhan, however, Chinese government cover up needs to be addressed. (Note: This is not about the Chinese people, but about the Communist Party and its leadership. Wuhan lost thousands of innocent people, just as we are losing our citizens, and citizens around the world.)

Sources believe coronavirus outbreak originated in Wuhan lab as part of China's efforts to compete with US

EBM for grammar

Maybe, that huge increase in unemployment benefits is because the government sees that so many jobs won't be coming back. And many of those folks, have kids, mortgages, and were making significantly more money.

Maybe, we are heading for a depression that will make the "Great Depression" look like a blip.

All in all, I told my daughter that she was better off working than being on unemployment. She agrees, but it is hard at her age to go to work every day, and hear her friends discuss their "riches" on unemployment.

This is absolutely horrifying. And not even surprising. Why didn't they call anyone? I hope that some people are fired. Inexcusable.

From the article:

The 17 were among 68 recent deaths linked to the long-term care facility, Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center I and II, including two nurses, officials said. Of those who died, 26 people had tested positive for the virus. "The cause of death is UNKNOWN".

And I have absolutely no doubt, will be happening in Florida.

So very sad and inexcusable! Why did an anonymous tip have to bring in public health and emergency officials? My guess--the nursing home didn't want to lose its Medicaid/Medicare money. Pure greed, and reprehensible. Please let this place be shut down--it sounds like it should've been already, given its inspection numbers.

I don't think that works because someone can have the virus, but have no symptoms---have no fever or cough, etc.
Hub had a guy at work with a cough no temp that tested hot. (Positive)

Off topic:
Tested "hot". I've heard that one before! Except it was p*ssed hot and someone was dishonorably discharged from the military for that. Wink wink.
(He was positive for drugs)
I haven't heard that term in 10 years!

"Coronavirus: Significant social distancing needed 'until vaccine found' - BBC News" Social distancing needed 'until vaccine found'

Very depressing. They have had years to develop a vaccine for the common cold and that has never happened so I think we have to accept there will be no vaccine IMO. But it does say 9 out of 10 deaths have underlying health conditions.

"On relaxing the current restrictions, Prof Ferguson said: "What we really need is the ability to put something in their place. If we want to open schools, let people get back to work, then we need to keep transmission down in another manner.

"And I should say, it's not going to be going back to normal. We will have to maintain some level of social distancing, a significant level of social distancing, probably indefinitely until we have a vaccine available."

BBC health correspondent James Gallagher said if a vaccine were to be found, it was not expected that manufacturers would be able to mass produce it until the second half of 2021.

"Remember, there are four coronaviruses that already circulate in human beings. They cause the common cold, and we don't have vaccines for any of them," he said.
Prof Ferguson said he believed the "daily number of infections peaked two weeks ago", but said it was "too early to relax".

Asked whether the government is moving towards having a lockdown exit strategy in place, Prof Ferguson said he would like to see "action accelerated" and called for more infrastructure.

After Anonymous Tip, 17 Bodies Are Found at Nursing Home Hit by Virus (NYT)
There have been 68 recent deaths of residents and nurses from the facility in a small New Jersey town.

The call for body bags came late Saturday.

By Monday, the police in a small New Jersey town had gotten an anonymous tip about a body being stored in a shed outside one of the state’s largest nursing homes.

When the police arrived, the corpse had been removed from the shed, but they discovered 17 bodies piled inside the nursing home in a small morgue intended to hold no more than four people.

“They were just overwhelmed by the amount of people who were expiring,” said Eric C. Danielson, the police chief in Andover.

The 17 were among 68 recent deaths linked to the long-term care facility, Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center I and II, including two nurses, officials said.

I asked my son about Love in the Time of Plague. He said that he's still using dating apps, and courtship is the new thing. Dates involve bringing a gift such as coffee, flowers, or chocolates, and meetups are sitting on the front lawn 6 feet apart and having a conversation. They still use the apps, they decide what risk level they're comfortable with.
