I thought it odd that as soon as social distancing started happening, Zoom was instantly the go-to platform to use. For those of us not familiar with these things, it seemed to come out of nowhere - and suddenly everyone was using it....schools, businesses, churches. Instantly!

I remember thinking I was so out of touch as I thought places would need a moment to catch their breath to figure out how to communicate in this new environment, but everyone seemed to jump on Zoom.

In hindsight, I wish everyone did take a breath for a moment. Sometimes that is the best approach - slow down, take time with decisions, don't go with the first option that looks easy.

I haven't used Zoom but I know my kids did at first for both school and group meetings. I think both have stopped.

jmo

Work was prepping to transition to Zoom in January, and did become fully licenced in the week of March 9. The software was in use by 2 departments for several months, and they reported no issues.

I don't trust the software at all anymore. If you know anyone who is using it, suggest that they use a more secure platform.

Thanks for posting this video, it is the best video that I have seen, other than simulation videos. I am sending it to quite a few people for them to watch. This is a good video for the teams that are preparing to reopen offices, classrooms, etc. It is also very helpful to all of us as individuals. The part of the video that shows a group of people in a room is fascinating, to show how the droplets from one cough move around the room and the timing of how it moves, up to 20 minutes, etc. as it moves around the room and stays in the air. This should be shown to people who are thinking about their safety going into elevators, stairways, other enclosed spaces, including rooms. Reinforces the importance of wearing face masks/coverings, especially for those who may be asymptomatic, but for everyone, in my opinon.
Exactly what I was thinking! If you are in a small enclosed room without a preferable N95 mask, you are likely to get infected. Without doubt, those micro sized particles will go right through the cotton masks.

I'm going to stop grumbling about the lack of masks for us though. It is what it is. Our govt officials are doing their best everyday. But the video proves that it would be really hard to defeat the enemy (virus) without the proper weapon (proper masks).

That reminds me. The RN from Texas that has been mentioned here. When she was in New York she fought with doctors over comfort care for dying patients. No morphine, no ativan. I wonder if there's a shortage of those, too?
There are, I think. This is what may scare me most, the idea of suffering for days without adequate pain control or sedation.

How San Francisco's Chinatown stayed ahead of CoVid:

How San Francisco's Chinatown Got Ahead of the Coronavirus

You have to scroll a bit to read the article, but basically, they were already contacting every business and temporarily shutting schools as early as the first week in February. They knew it was coming and they knew that some of their residents were flying back to Wuhan. Everyone was asked to self-quarantine for 14 days, which apparently they did well - because despite being the most densely populated part of San Francisco, Chinatown has had few cases.

They also immediately raised funds within the community for medical supplies, because they knew they needed to be proactive, given their high risk.

They had many volunteers from multiple community groups who went to every business to encourage social distancing and many businesses closed, as they knew what a CoVid epidemic might be like. Everything is still shut down.

Then, why did they have a parade to celebrate Chinese New Year, in San Francisco on February 8th?

Sorry to hear that. I actually started to get teary eyed after thinking about the local fun summer events that won't be held. I have no clue how to replace those good times.

I feel the same! I made a list of everything that was coming up this spring/summer, we had a lot planned and one by one things have got cancelled. Waiting for decision re best friends wedding but I think that'll be nixed too.

As COVID-19 infections (and most all severe bacterial and viral infections) generate a hypercoagulable state, it would not be surprising if there was a pattern of microvascular thrombi that could involve the small vessels of the skin.

It likely wouldn't be pathognomonic for COVI19, though.

[bbm]

that's a lot of big words
can you dumb it down for me?

My best guess is teeny tiny blood clots!

Some guy near me ended up with a literal 12" bloodclot in his arm after a hospital stay with CV19. I'm not 100% sure what caused it, but it was unpleasant. Jmo

COVID-19 Stay at home DIY hair color update: For those who might not remember I was planning to use a box dye on my long bleach blonde hair with about 3 inches of grey roots. The plan was to dye the blonde, grey, in order to match it to my roots. If it turned blue, green or purple at least I wouldn't be going out in public until I had time to wash it and hopefully fade it out some. I took the plunge this morning and it turned out perfect! I sent a pic to my sister and she loved it. She reminded me that hubby would be home all weekend with his "new woman"... selfisolatinguntilmonday... nevermarryayoungerman... moo

that's great
I think long, grey hair is so pretty!

Sometimes, I wish health experts and all their gloom and doom wouldn't return until Fall 2021. I prefer optimism.

If you can get it off of a door handle, you can get it off of food packaging. I’m not buying this advice anymore than I bought the advice to not wear masks.

Bottom line - I’m not sure how much I actually trust our government anymore, especially certain agencies.

ITA.

My husband just picked up our grocery order and I wiped everything down, Yesterday we got a produce order and I washed everything in the kitchen sink. I don't trust that advice.

So how exactly do they expect to reopen the economy? Obviously there is not enough proper PPE. And our little cotton masks ain't going to cut it.

And Chinese millionaire, Ren Zhiqiang has been disappeared, as well.

I cant even express how livid I am with China, and this includes WHO which fell for all their lies.

These honorable whistleblowers have probably been murdered. :(

I dont put anything past China, and what they are capable of doing including to their own people.

My heart breaks for all of countless good citizens of China who are also victims of this ruthless regime.

But no matter how much they deny or suppress the TRUTH the TRUTH will still become known for the world to see.

Imo, the truth of what happened, and what is still happening in China will come from the many honorable Chinese citizens who live there. More will be willing to risk their own lives to expose the truth.

There isn't enough sanctions on this earth to fairly punish China for what has happened to 180 countries, and the leadership's lies, and coverups.

Despite that last public event, Chinatown evaded CV19 because they realized the vector (of people coming back from China) was going to bring the virus to them. Which it did. But, they were in contact with embassies, airlines and other groups to warn those returning people to quarantine themselves

And those people did quarantine themselves. Unlike people elsewhere. In fact, it appears that the Chinese-Americans who went to China came back properly scared and very sober about what was going on, while the rest of California was pretty much unaware of the problem. Only people who were reading up on international health news knew about CV in February, in California.

An article on how long CV lives on surfaces.

Brass and copper are very safe compared to everything else, silicon is pretty safe.

Human Coronavirus 229E Remains Infectious on Common Touch Surface Materials

Everything else still showed a few living bits of virus at 4 days, with 5 days being the point where the virus had finally declined to zero. Obviously, the first day was the worst.
