If I were an American protestor, it's a hill I would die on. Hopefully, it won't come to that, as it seems most of our leaders are realizing that the current situation cannot be sustained.
Nobody thinks the current situation can be sustained. Leaders across the nation are making plans for how to return to normal, not plans on how to sustain this situation.

Not wishing to offend anybody. I have great respect for all persons in here. But what on Gods green Earth is going on in America?? I am in the UK, and over here, looking from the outside in, I am absolutely horrified at what I see on the News. All my life I have felt like the United Kingdom and the United States are Earthly cousins, bonded by the courage it takes to fight for and save innocent lives. So to see people out on the streets in protest.. totally disregarding their fellow and elderly citizens.. the ones who want to live!!. The ones who have all the correct measures in place to keep themselves from infection. Their actions are criminal. They need to realise, Lockdown is not to punish us but to save us!! Every Country in the World is in the same boat and this behaviour has not been seen in any other Country on this planet! If ever President Trump needed to prove just how great of a power he has, he should exert it right now by hauling every last protestor off to prison! Lockdown is frustrating for all persons of every country. One thing frustrates me more though and that is grown up adults who are unable to abide by simple rules. Especially when lives are at risk X
As ever peeps STAY SAFE. X
We are not in some communist country that might haul peaceful protestors off to jail. Thank goodness! At least they are not looting and vandalizing.

If any restrictions are lifted before there is a 100% effective vaccine, there with be people who will say that it's too soon. JMO

These are up-to-date values for Rt, a key measure of how fast the virus is growing. It’s the average number of people who become infected by an infectious person. If Rt is above 1.0, the virus will spread quickly. When Rt is below 1.0, the virus will stop spreading.

SPOILER: 15 states are "green" at or below 1

The link also gives the trend line for each state.

Coronavirus News: Skin rashes emerge as possible symptom of COVID-19, dermatologists say

EV9-oM4WsAAq4kj

Eyewitness News on Twitter
How horrible. 10ofRods's post #286 has explanation as to why those skin rashes occur.

Copy-pasted part of #286: "Another fascinating set of research papers ( peer reviewed ) are causing a re-think of how this particular CoVid is killing people. The research seems to show that it acts in a manner to damage blood vessels, in a complex manner that causes microthrombosis, usually in the lungs first. This explains the foot rashes that some have experienced and apparently the multi-organ damage. CoVid-19 may disable the walls of blood vessels from expanding and contracting to push blood through the body, leading to coagulation of the blood in the small vessels first (thrombosis). These studies are based on increased autopsy data, but also a lot of other study."

Just horrible.

I'm responding to the idea that anyone would think this situation is sustainable, as mentioned in the post I quoted.

So much arguing....when don't we all have the same goal?

I lived an hour outside Toronto during SARS so it felt quite real to me :(

I’ve been reading a lot of old reports on SARS, and wow just wow total Dejavu. It is uncanny, it is almost like a complete duplicate in so many ways, but of course more widespread and fatal.

I feel there are many clues wrt to all that moo.

I don't even have a doctor right now. Have to find a new one. So can't even do telemedicine.
I’m looking for a new one too. First two I called were not taking new patients. I have a list of 5 recommendations from friends. Mine closed their doors last week.

My kids ggm has it at a facility in Atlanta. She is in her mid-90’s and seems to be out of the woods. The hardest part for her and her husband - who is also mid 90’s and in the same facility - is the isolation. Their daughter got them an iPad, but it’s not the same. How awful to live your whole long life and at the end be isolated from everyone and everything you love. That alone will probably be the death of a lot of the nursing home residents imo. They will lose their will to live. Jmo

I'm worried about that for my Dad, although he is still in the hospital but not allowed visitors. We have a large family and have scheduled the phonecalls so that he gets at least two, sometimes three per day. My brother has also set up facetime with my Mom & others (the lovely nurses use their phone and hold it up for my Dad). Every time I call, I give him details about the virus and why we can't visit but I'm not sure he completely understands. He's hard of hearing and unable to speak properly so communication is not good at all. Just a crap situation.

The UK isnt communist either but I have to say I'm glad our police have been given new authorities to fine, or arrest as a last resort, people who are not following lockdown regs. These include gatherings of more than two people not being allowed.

Any people meeting up on groups are not only risking themselves and frontline medical staff, but if they are shopping irresponsibly etc as well, they are risking hundreds of strangers.

I dont object to anyone protesting for any reason, it's their business. But I do object to people endangering the lives of strangers through irresponsible behaviour.

A good analogy I saw:

The curve is flattening; we can lift restrictions now
=
The parachute has slowed our descent; we can take it off now

But, if you listen to the business sector, they are not ready to reopen. They want testing and safety. Leaders can say all is open, but that does not mean business as normal before the pandemic.

The graph was from a tweet with no links back to a recognised, authorative source, so it did not make me confidence that the graph was current and credible.

Gotcha! Thanks, I had missed that. Most of the graphs here have the source imbedded and we here are familiar with, and I missed that the one you were speaking to did not have such.

Appreciate you taking the time to respond to my query. If I come across one, or perhaps @Henry2326 comes across R0 for canada, it can be posted with a reputable reference in the future to support or dispute. R0 changes DAILY..

They didn't have the opportunity to voice protest to elected officials. They didn't have representation in Parliament or the right to vote. I get your point, but there are differences between then and now.

Trust me, I feel the same way when I look at your nurses and their lack of PPE (I'm in California). UK has been very late to the game of grabbing resources. UK is planning on separate vaccine research (at Oxford) which is very cool, but it's clear that they want the patent on it as well (not cool). Further, how will UK get the raw materials from Germany to manufacture and where will it be manufactured? Seems the plan is not to actual build the entire vaccination process in UK, but simply that patent. Again, not good planning.

You've got people not social distancing all over UK and places like Spoons defying common sense. It's the same here. It's exactly like the Spoons pub situation in UK. There aren't a lot of these people (there are about 12 people "protesting en masse" in my town on this fine Sunday - very very low percentage, I'm in the L.A area).

We feel the same way about these protesters (some of whom are my relatives, I just found out). There are Constitutional issues at the core of this, and so it behooves governments to carefully get us out of this complete lockdown. Not sure if UK has ever had a complete lockdown, judging from the tons of people who gather on bridges to do the Clap the NHS things every week. Where I live, it's truly been a complete lockdown, to the point that police don't even have to stop cars, there are virtually no cars on the street, all of the trips are essential.

At any rate, the key is to begin relaxing certain restrictions in populations where the people are literate and informed enough to behave themselves. I won't say where I live exactly, but some measures were taken today to allow some non-essential businesses to open and we'll see how that goes in the next 2 weeks.

Masks required in public, although very near me, same relaxation but no mandatory masks - masks recommended. I'm watching the webcam as people start back out onto the beaches - every single person is wearing a mask and they are staying way more than 6 feet apart. It's a big beach.

What's the Spoons pub situation?
