Blue Angels and Thunderbirds

The flight demonstration squads, the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds, will fly over two of New Jersey’s largest cities next week to honor frontline coronavirus responders and essential workers, the U.S. Air Force announced Saturday.

After a week of uncertainty about when and if the shows would come, the joint flights were set for Newark and Trenton as well as New York City and Philadelphia on April 28.

“We are truly excited to take to the skies with our Navy counterparts for a nationwide tribute to the men and women keeping our communities safe.” U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. John Caldwell, Thunderbird 1 and mission commander for the flyover said in a statement. “We hope to give Americans a touching display of American resolve that honors those serving on the frontline of our fight with COVID-19.”

The Newark and New York City flyovers will begin at noon and last about 32 minutes, and the Trenton flyover will begin at 1:45 p.m. and go on for about 10 minutes, the Air Force said. The Philadelphia flyover start at 2 p.m. and will last about 20 minutes.

Residents along the flight path can expect a few seconds of jet noise as the aircraft pass overhead, along with the sight of 12 high-performance aircraft flying close in precise formation, officials said.

The Air Force said people will be able to see jets from their homes and were encouraged to not gather in large numbers to watch the aerial shows.

Oh dear. I was yelling at the TV today because of the mask pulling thing. People either pull it down to talk (!)

I'm guilty. I pull it down sometimes, but not near anyone. I get out of breath as it is, but I really get SOB with a mask on. I know talking especially more forcefully also can shoot virus out, so a mask is important.

Sephora is worried too, because people aren't buying super expensive makeup (big surprise...not).

I bought a couple of new lipsticks just before going into my new life wearing a face mask. I bet some of that eye makeup just makes it easier for the virus to cling to and stay near the eyes. Maybe brow makeup will be the only thing to wear.

Almost 50 off topic posts removed. While it is Saturday night, this thread is not about beer drinking, and surely we do not need to specify that "flattening the curve" is not about spinal issues and umpteen recommended solutions.

Please stay on topic or thread bans will be issued.

There's another storm brewing that post-secondary institutions are not expecting - students demanding reduced tuition for reduced quality of education. Institutions cannot open when there is a chance that the virus will make anyone sick, yet they do not want to let go of any of the tuition that pays absurd salaries and executive style offices.

This could lead to the debate about whether online and in-class education is equal, where institutions will claim it is equal even though they don't believe it.

"University students across Canada are calling on their schools to reduce tuition and other fees in light of classes moving online and offering what they say is an inferior education.
...

"We feel it's unfair that they are charging the same tuition and still going through with their annual tuition increase," Nell said over the phone from her home in Delta, B.C. "The education is now online, which we feel is sub-par."
...

Nell says she understands that these are exceptional times, but when her classes went online they were riddled with awkward technical difficulties, inappropriate online class chats and less access to professors.
...

Last week, the University of Toronto Students' Union released a media statement demanding reduced tuition for the summer and the elimination of fees for services like athletics, which are no longer available."

I only wore them for a couple of hours. If your breathing is compromised at all, double masking would be almost impossible I would think, if you are trying to do anything.

Thanks for being a caring duck owner.

Miss my own washer so much.
I'm the person with the compromised breathing. Wearing a mask is almost torture.

He sneezed in his elbow, head turned away from me and then used hand sanitizer before touching anything again but still.

Lynch him! One sneeze or cough and people glare now days. I'm afraid to ever hand clerks real money again, maybe forever. You sound conscientious and I think you're going to be okay.

It's a bit odd for someone to wear a mask while driving around. I also see a handicap tag on the mirror in that crashed car. Maybe there's more to the story.
I've seen a few people driving around with masks on and yes it's odd.

Do they think the virus is floating around in the atmosphere and the air in their car has the virus in it?

I may just draw a " :) " on my forehead, above my eyes, the next time I wear my mask to a store......... A "Geezer Fashion Statement".....moo

That is so funny. I like the idea a lot. It's a way to still smile. Thanks.

MOO, I'm enjoying SNL during Covid times more now that it's from their own homes. At least I think it is somehow from their own places ...very professional and well done.
The OJ skit was pretty funny.

Oh-oh, is this OT? I don't think so.

It's a bit like wearing a mask at home - no point. Clearly some people do not understand the pandemic situation. Some people are actually drinking bleach and aquarium cleaning solutions. Others believe that the pandemic is a political hoax. Somehow, the fact that the highly contagious, deadly virus can be avoided with simple precautions such as self-isolating and washing with water and soap is lost.

Thank you so much otto for stating this so well.

It's amazing that there a such extremes.

People doing crazy things because they fear getting the virus while at the same time people ignoring the dangers and putting themselves and others at risk. JMO

I'm go8ng to try to get into that program. We have a lot of elderly in our community.
No info on who to contact yet though.
At my mom's retirement complex,in Reno, Nv, she said they had 'fun' dinners recently. Apparently some local casinos and hotel restaurants either donated or sold a bunch of food to the retirement centre for the seniors.

My Mom had Pizza a few times and then 'Chinese takeout' she called it, another couple times.

I think a little OT here and there actually, isn’t really that OT. You know, we have to destress now and again from this horror. Just to keep us all going.
For us, we’re watching a lot of Adam Sandler movies.
Gotta keep our sanity somehow, right? :)

Is the complex clear of the virus? In Canada, we hear again and again that care aides typically work in more than one facility, they carry the virus from an infected environment to a clean environment. BC is the only province I know with new requirements that aids work in only one facility.

Trying to look on the bright side. So what if I can't breathe. Wearing a mask might have advantages for some people. It could mean:
  • no makeup & no lipstick
  • no need to wax or shave as often
  • no need for fat lip plumb treatments
  • no need for lower face botox
  • no one notices spinach in your teeth
  • stop buying teeth whiteners
  • forgo front tooth replacements
  • :p oops forgot my mask :D

Thanks.
I found a recipe thread here Recipes to share during Coronavirus quarantine

But I didn't find a thread about food. I posted about using Mountain House freeze dried food for emergency's or for long term storage to prepare for a pandemic.

Freeze dried food isn't a recipe. Is there another thread for food that I missed?
