I'm worried about most businesses being able to recover. Because of social distancing they have to limit the amount of employees and customers in their area. Yet they still have to pay for the space and utilities. Obviously they can't produce the same amount of product or service and make the same profit as before COVID-19. And that's not even taking into account the cost of PPE. I understand why it's necessary but IMO many businesses will have to close for good.

It is so sad what this horrible pandemic is doing to businesses. I have no idea how many businesses will be able to make it--- so many of them will go under. heart breaking.

I have a question: if the virus remains on surfaces for a certain period of time, how does that result in transmission to a person? i mean if you touch, let's say a cardboard box, how can you get the virus? I am thinking the only way you can get it is if you touch that box and then touch your nose, eyes or somewhere on your face. Am I wrong. I mean does it get thru your skin?

Pure hell, IMO. Every other day I google "States likely to financially recover from Covit-19 shutdowns" ?
Not an article to be had yet.
We will be leaving California as soon as possible. For us, we wanted to leave anyway, but California's leaders and how they've handled this shutdown has made us even more anxious to get out asap. Personally, we think, California will fare worse than many other States.
It's not had a business friendly atmosphere for decades, this situation has and will make it worse. Imo
I feel the exact opposite, and will welcome more space once all those who hate it so much, actually leave. I won't hold my breath though.

Oh, and I think the state with an economy larger than most countries, will do just fine. How do you think NY will fare? Their measures have been even more severe than California's. Is their economy going to suffer from this prolonged shutdown?

I guess there are always states like Alabama, Georgia, Iowa & South Dakota, who will recover much quicker than a riskier state like CA, which is hanging on by a thread financially speaking.

I thought I would be one of the first to make an appointment to get the AB test once it became more available here especially since I believe I have had covid (in early March & it took me a solid 6 weeks to feel better) which I believe I caught from my adult son who I believe was an asymptomatic spreader.

Now that it's available here, I am very hesitant. It doesn't appear I would be immune (for what length of time?) if I test + for antibodies. And honestly, I do not like the idea of being tracked by the city, the health department, turning over names, phone numbers, etc.

My adult son was big on getting the AB test once it became more available and about a week ago, his physician at NYU sent out an email stating both tests were now available. He made an appointment immediately and got one for the following day. Once he fully understood that even if he tested + for the ABs that it was not going to be a free pass (as far as I'm concerned), he cancelled.

His GF is now letting nieces & nephews into her apartment. My adult daughter's roommate just took off to visit a potential mate in FL!

IDK what has changed since these individuals are in their late 20s/early 30s (meaning they should know better)! Do not come near me is my mantra.

I really wish I could have gotten the hell out of here before this all went down, but I want to be near my adult children.

No, you would have to touch your mouth, nose, or eyes. It can only be transmitted through droplets. So if you shake hands with someone who is infected.....albeit from a 6 ft distance......you can then thoroughly disinfect and clean your hands, and be just fine. But if you shake hands, and then touch your nose, it can transmit very easily.

"By just about any measure, #Spain has been the worst outbreak among large countries (NY state is still worse, as a large region). Their recovery has been steady and consistent. They are beginning to relax their lockdown and the world is watching with #Hope."

I imagine when she realized that her store visit had become a national viral video, she felt proud, and famous. I wonder if she ever actually realized it became viral, because people thought she was a Covidiot.

I feel sorry for the worker having to be sick and needed help, not right to fire him either someone should be in trouble for trying to make him find a person to cover his shift
I agree. The person who fired him might be looking for a new job themselves. How the employee was treated is a PR nightmare.

I think many businesses will fail. It's a domino effect. Entire cities will fail, and even some States.
I do think we're in for a bloodbath financially.
We're old now, we don't have the desire to work 60 plus hours a week anymore.
I'll be content with a part time online job.
That's all we need to supplement our social security IF we leave California.
If you knew what our monthly overhead is you'd probably just about faint.
At least my dear old Dad, who's is Calgary, Canada does, whenever I discuss it with him! :-)

How will restaurants ever recover from this? I used to eat out everyday for lunch and sometimes dinner. My favorite restaurants are the Mom and Pop restaurants with the home cooking, who have been around for decades. Restaurants here were allowed to re-open last Friday with restrictions i.e. 50% capacity, servers must wear masks etc. None of the Mom and Pop restaurants re-opened. A chain restaurant re-opened yesterday and took in $1000 in sales in 8 hours. I'm sure you know how devastating that is.
Will the current restaurants ever re-cover or are we looking at all new restaurants opening in a couple of years?

I've heard several Doctors and experts predicting that the outbreak in the UK will become the largest outside the U.S. before too long, and it may take some time before the outbreak there starts to decline.

Get yourself a food truck and travel around. Multi state health permits should be entertaining. Jmo

This is why I will continue to wipe my groceries.
I wonder how they were sheltering in place. Any family visiting or grocery shopping...

Posting this again, this time with a photo. Forty-six (46) states still have scheduled state fairs.

Seeing the disjointed approach the U.S. intends to take in regards to this virus, I have little doubt that some States will choose to go ahead with County Fairs & State Fairs, as scheduled.

Seeing this picture makes me realize how much our lives have changed in a short time. Our local fair is scheduled for middle of August. The directors just posted yesterday that all vendors have been cancelled. They haven't decided yet about whether or not they will have the fair, but I think they are just keeping a watch on things and are having a hard time accepting the obvious. Probably the rest of the fair will be cancelled soon too. These things are hard to do.

Cuomo says it's 'shocking' most new coronavirus hospitalizations are people who had been staying home

Most new Covid-19 hospitalizations in New York state are from people who were staying home and not venturing much outside, a “shocking” finding, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

The preliminary data was from 100 New York hospitals involving about 1,000 patients, Cuomo said at his daily briefing.

It shows that 66% of new admissions were from people who had largely been sheltering at home. The next highest source of admissions was from nursing homes, 18%.

Probably "largely" sheltering at home isn't good enough, especially if there is community spread of CoV-19. And home, might not even be good enough if you share an entrance, mail room, garbage room, stair well, ventilation system, laundry, garage, etc.

A New Source of Coronavirus Spread: ‘Covid-19 Parties’

Just when you think you've heard everything: COVID 19 PARTIES where people purposely try to get the disease, and lucky them, some of them are successful: one Covidiot who contracted the illness had the stupidity to say oh gee, i didn't know i could spread it. Duh

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned that a nursing home in Atlanta has more patients with the coronavirus than almost anywhere else in the state.

Channel 2’s Justin Wilfon confirmed the Georgia National Guard was called in to the clean the Legacy Transitional Care and Rehab facility on Auburn Avenue in northeast Atlanta, where more than 100 patients have tested positive for COVID-19.

So far, 10 people have died from the virus at that facility.

The latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Community Health shows more than 100 residents tested positive for the virus. That leaves only 25 residents who do not have the virus.

100 infected, 10 dead as coronavirus sweeps through Atlanta nursing home
