I scored some hand sanitizer at a local drug store yesterday. No lysol or wipes anywhere. I check online everyday.

I thought my Mayor and Gov Cuomo said so many of us here in NYC would die if we did not wear masks, if we did not stand 6 ft apart, if we gathered in groups of more than (most recently) 10, or we would be responsible for others' deaths.

I thought my Mayor and Gov Cuomo told us here in NYC that we would spread the virus to the elderly and the vulnerable and through minority communities if we did not have one of the most severe shutdowns in the entire country and follow the strict NY/NYC Covid Guidelines.

WTH happened? I thought people in NYC were even encouraged to "report" those breaking the Covid "rules."
How about those Contract Tracers - give us the names, phone numbers or addresses (if known) of those whom you have been in contact with if you test positive.

Come in to be tested! Get a test now! Stay home! Get tested! Wear your mask! Get a test! Wipe off those groceries! Get tested! Do not go in the water at the beaches! Get tested! Get your kids off that playground equipment! Get tested! Watch out for those metal surfaces! Get tested yesterday, today and tomorrow! If you're negative, you probably should get another test in a few weeks, but please - Get tested!

Not a word out of either the NYC Mayor's and NY Gov's mouths until today about the protests and the spread of Covid. And not one reporter had even asked a question about the relationship until nearly one hour into the presser.

Who could believe most of or even trust one word of what comes out of these government officials' mouths as well as the media outlets and their pundits anymore?

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone in NYC. But after nearly 3 months of a near total shutdown of NYC due to Covid, I suppose NYC must be relatively safe now.

I am not sure what exactly governors can do regarding protests. They can certainly tell people protests can spread the virus and some have done so-people won't listen. These protesters are very close to each other, a lot of them not wearing masks, they are screaming which spreads viral particles, etc. Unless that Italian doctor is right, we are going to see a large increases in cases soon enough.

I tried Groupon for hand sanitizer. I was able to get some through them..discount included.

And DH came home with Lysol spray cleaner from Acme just the other day. He then gave it to our daughter and SIL..They can't find it through their Fresh Direct deliveries.

Oh well, next week, I'll get him to buy more. Seems easy to find - for him.

New coronavirus losing potency, top Italian doctor says

New coronavirus losing potency, top Italian doctor says

...
ROME, May 31 (Reuters) - The new coronavirus is losing its potency and has become much less lethal, a senior Italian doctor said on Sunday.

"In reality, the virus clinically no longer exists in Italy," said Alberto Zangrillo, the head of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan in the northern region of Lombardy, which has borne the brunt of Italy's coronavirus contagion.

"The swabs that were performed over the last 10 days showed a viral load in quantitative terms that was absolutely infinitesimal compared to the ones carried out a month or two months ago," he told RAI television.
...
A second doctor from northern Italy told the national ANSA news agency that he was also seeing the coronavirus weaken. "The strength the virus had two months ago is not the same strength it has today," said Matteo Bassetti, head of the infectious diseases clinic at the San Martino hospital in the city of Genoa.

"It is clear that today the COVID-19 disease is different."

There was one lonely plastic canister of walmart brand wipes on the shelf today. It was smashed and the lid was off and it was over five dollars but I picked up the lid, rolled the sides of the canister back out, put the lid on and bought it anyway.

I'm in Jefferson county Washington. My husband came home with a large bottle of sanitizer and 2 small ones from the grocery store yesterday so we seem to have a supply. People in my small town have been diligent about wearing masks and keeping clean.

More worrisome are the protests happening across Puget Sound in Seattle and adjacent areas. Shopkeepers are boarding up. The good news is that it's unlikely any protesters will venture up here to visit any time soon. At least I hope not!

Ferry service is still running in and out of Seattle despite an advisory to limit travel, especially after the curfew starts. I thought I had heard that ferries into Seattle were stopped but apparently that's not the case.

COVID-19 PEP Study

“The COVID-19 PEP Study is a groundbreaking effort from research teams at top universities across the United States. This is a carefully controlled study on a large scale that aims to provide the global medical community with evidence of the effectiveness of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent COVID-19. By participating in this study, you can help scientists find a proven way to prevent COVID-19.”

Is there a thread for the protests because all police departments should see what this officer did, he even had long conversations with protesters of how the police can make things better.

Michigan sheriff joins protesters in effort to mend community amid high tension: 'Let's walk'

Michigan sheriff takes off helmet and joins protesters marching for George Floyd

Sheriff Chris Swanson joins a group of protesters in Flint, Michigan as they march against police brutality and for justice in George Floyd's death.

"The only reason we're here is to make sure you got a voice, that's it."

"Don't think for a second that he ( Derek Chauvin)
represents who these cops are....We go out there to help people, not do this nonsense."

"We want to be with y'all for real. I took my helmet off, lay the batons down.

We want to make this a parade, not a protest!"

"These cops love you. That cop over there hugs people. So, you tell us what you need."

Immediately, protesters began chanting: "Walk with us."

That is exactly what Swanson did, walking with community members and having a nearly two-hour conversation about what police could be doing better.

The demonstration remained peaceful.

Michigan police sheriff says George Floyd's death was "straight-up murder"

Sheriff Chris Swanson joins a group of protesters in Flint, Michigan as they march against police brutality and for justice in George Floyd's death.

"The only reason we're here is to make sure you got a voice, that's it," . "Don't think for a second that he represents cops from all over the county and around this nation,"

"We want to be with y'all for real. I took my helmet off, lay the batons down. We want to make this a parade, not a protest," "These cops love you. That cop over there hugs people. So, you tell us what you need."

The sheriff's speech was cut off by chants from the crowd. "Walk with us!" the crowd shouted. Swanson then happily agreed and high-fived demonstrators as he joined their march.

Nearly 26K nursing home COVID-19 deaths reported to feds

This is interesting. If anyone has ever worked in long term care, CNA'S are paid the lowest wages, and are literally pounded to the ground every shift. Management doesn't hire enough CNA staff, nurses do as little as possible, and the expectation of changing PPE between every patient, is a joke. There are not enough supplies, and there isn't enough time to change into PPE for every single patient. Unless there is huge reform, which is unlikely to happen.

If you are working with Covid-19 positive patients is it necessary to change between each one?

You wouldn't have to change between patients without Covi-19.

If all are tested then you don't have to behave like everyone is infected.

If all are tested then you don't have to behave like everyone is infected.

But, you don't know who is actually infected, until they all are ..that is why the virus runs like wildfire in LTC.

In order to minimize the impact, you would need to use standard precautions with every single patient. For example, bath day in LTC, runs like an assembly line, one aid gets all of the patients in bath chairs, one CNA does the showers for all patients, two CNA get patients dressed. It takes two to three hours. From breakfast to lunch. Moving every single minute.

The CNA'S are not changing out for every patient. The goal is just to get it done.

If they were to minimize spread in LTC, one patient at a time. Then, change all PPE, next patient, sterilize bath area, change PPE, next patient. X 20. There is no way baths would get done, with all of the other work that needs to get done. Unless they hired 10 more CNA's. Never happen.

Thanks for this post.

From your link:
"The COVID-19 PEP Study is trying to answer: does hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) work to prevent people getting COVID-19 when taken by people who have had recent exposure to someone with the virus? We’re on a mission to answer that."

Another source of info:
Hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 Post-exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov
"This study will enroll up to 2000 asymptomatic men and women 18 to 80 years of age (inclusive) at baseline who are close contacts of persons with PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 or clinically suspected COVID-19 and a pending SARS-CoV-2 PCR test."

The drug dose is 400 mg orally for 3 days followed by 200 mg orally for 11 days. The placebo group will receive vitamin C.

They expect to have results by the end of the summer.

I quit taking it two days ago because I just can't cope with my hair falling out at this time. And I'm wondering if it's causing some weird muscle issues for me. Two weeks ought to be tolerable for most of these people, though.
