@Cool Cats the story of your Father is very similar to my ex husband. He has a set "routine" of seeing people, going places, doing things. And the pandemic wasn't going to stop him. Until his friend almost died.

Now, he won't even see our kids unless they wear masks. He is currently living like "Howard Hughes". Completely isolated, growing out his hair.

But, it can't be an "age" thing, because my husband, same age, is moving forward with his life. Carefully. But not a complete reclusive who doesn't leave the house

I have been normal shopping weekly/every 10 days and no TP or paper towel shortages, or food shortages. Fed up that pubs and restaurants are still closed with Wales case and death rates being so low. No shops open, no markets open, town like a ghost town, no libraries or cinemas open, no tourist businesses or tourists around, beach car parks closed. Don't know when anything will be open either.
I've seen TP (1 roll per person) at one grocery store, but no paper towels anywhere. Was able to purchase hand sanitizer at Home Depot. What was really bad at the grocery store today (Wednesday 1:30pm) was the frozen section - lots of empty space, and this was not a one time event. I've noticed frozen sections partially empty on several visits to three large chains.

About a month ago my next door neighbors purchased a large freezer, worried about a food shortage. I thought they were over-doing things but maybe not.

Thankx @mickey2942 for responding to my "dad" post...LOL

My dad is getting his hair cut by one of his neighbor's relatives. He has had people wanting to help him out and I make sure he is not over-charged for their services.

They know who I am, I make myself clear. It is critical with our older family members we stay alert and pay attention to what's going on. I do trust my dad's neighbors but only because I have gotten familiar with them.

Stand up for yourself and your friends and family people!

No one is going to do it but you! Responsibility...101...Responsibility...102...Responsibility...103

Now is the time for good changes to happen - positive things - Glass half full....

I understand your anger at China- i have it too but our government has let us down big time. if this virus had been addressed in January when it was brought to the attention of several people in key leadership positions, we would not be in this horrible place today: IMO way less deaths and the economy would not be in free fall.

British researchers say wearing masks could help prevent pandemic resurgence - The Boston Globe

Another study that reinforces that if most everybody wore masks we could help prevent a pandemic resurgence. Here is one statement i found interesting - "researchers noted that homemade masks can be effective and even crude ones can reduce disease spread
by catching the wearer's own exhaled virus particles and preventing the disease from spreading". The article goes on to state " my mask protects you, your mask protects me".

I think that while we all have reason to be angry about some part of how this unfolded (which parts will be different for each of us), I don’t see anger getting us anywhere in the fight against the virus. I’m trying to focus each day on the practical matters in the now as well as future (I’m still creating a stash just in case). It is stressful and can really amp up frustration and anger. But someone in here reminded us in the very beginning (possibly @Amonet ) that managing our stress would also help keep us healthier. So I’ve really been making an effort not to fall into the constant anger trap.

I feel the same way KALI.

2020 has been unbelievable and things are not getting better. I feel hopeless and my anxiety stays in overdrive. One good thing that happened for me was that my son left DC right before the riots.
I am tired of searching high and low for paper products, geez. Another good thing is I have no interest in new clothes, new shoes, new make-up, so I guess I am not spending money. I work from home and don't leave except once a week trip to WalMart. I guess that is my new normal.

Hang in there KALI, we are all in this together. Thank goodness for our WS support group.

I saw asymptomatic spread was the news of the day. Since it's spread by people coughing/sneezing/spewing up their Covid droplets everywhere, it seems logical that if you are doing that, you are symptomatic. If you have no symptoms, by the very definition, you are not hacking up all over the place. And as for contact transfer, if that was as viable as some think then our entire logistics system would be down. My wife asked the UPS guy how many folks have come down with it and he said "none." I was talking to a retired fire chief, the other day, and his concern was all the cancer that will be caused by the abuse of hand-sanitizer.

Just had a great dinner at one of our favorite places in the city. Staff was so cute with their little bandannas around their necks, like Golden Retrievers.

In between spewing and touching the mail lies...talking and breathing. Unfortunately, these spread the virus (and the more volume you use) are in between these two extremes. If you are in a closed volume of air - say a treatment cubicle in a modern hospital or any cubicle in any large building - mere talking will increase viral load over about 30 minutes - as much as 10 sneezes in 10 minutes.

Think about it.

Talking spreads the virus. Loud, vigorous talkers spew out more. Singing and yelling are right up there with modest sneezes (they say you can't help how you sneeze - but I don't believe it, my parents taught me to stile and my profession taught me to use my shoulder). I am a quiet talker by nature, as are all my closest friends.

But we can modify our behaviors. Sitting quietly on the beach while someone walks by, breathing softly, no one wearing a mask - person walking by is not at their peak of virulence. Probably okay.

Listening to two people argue in an elevator for 1 minute, one of them is CV+? Way higher risk. So people who are knowledgeable are going to get irked by this behavior.

Contact transfer is considered very low risk. Have a 15 minute conversation, quiet, with a CV+ person is considered plenty of exposure for transfer. Both of you with masks? You can talk for 2 hours, most likely, and unless that person is super virulent, you're probably fine.

And don't forget your sunglasses or blank lenses - because mere breathing (especially if someone is taking deep breaths) can transmit it rather easily to your eyes if you are in a closed volume of air. Like a bedroom or a small apartment.

Just for me. Of all places I would be wary about is Movie Theaters.
Absolutely not their fault.
Even if they do everything to try to stop this virus, they are by design a capsule of people breathing piping circulating air.
Just like airlines.
How can one protect themselves from hours of recirculating air ?
Damn. This virus is going to change the world as we know it.
Again.
I am just angry. Going to a Movie theater, or flying on a plane should not be life threatening!
For heavens sake. PROTEST this virus.

I miss my movie theater nachos! Miss going to the movies so we just got an awesome new TV that makes home viewing fun. Have to change things up!

People around me seem to think all is back to normal - the news stations aren’t doing the banners now with Covid updates either - it’s hard to make the family stay home when everything is opening back up - I don’t know what is right anymore - I’m still using a mask and staying home except for grocery shopping.... the older lawyers however are staying home and no live hearings either so I’m taking my cue from them

On this front, the Reopen Let's Save Business Group has won (while spending trillions of dollars because of a failing economy). We are on our own, locally, in dealing with CoVid.

My DH and I are alone, but together, in dealing with this next phase - and I really feel for those people who live alone. I also feel for people who are 65 and older and must necessarily make different kinds of decisions (as well as anyone in younger age groups who have any kind of underlying condition).

None of the lawyers in the office where I'm about to do our estate planning visit on Monday will see anyone in the office. Only one person is working in office. We've worked out how to transfer documents quickly and the attorney will meet with us on Zoom.

KALI, this feeling of hopelessness is so depressing. So many things that we cannot control and we are exposed to all of this. I have depression issues and have for a long time but now, I feel overwhelmed and want to give up. We will make it KALI. There has got to be light at the end of this tunnel that keeps on going.

Apparently in my state, the number of cases has doubled since it re-opened. No surprise between the beaches opening and the protests. What is happening in the world today?????

New coronavirus cases almost double after reopening

I broke my ankle and now I am having facial spasms. Are these facial spasms stress related or just a blood vessel hitting a nerve. More than likely a blood vessel hitting a nerve but heck, I want life back to normal before 2020.

We are doing estate plans via email and phone calls but we require in person signing -we have a huge conference room and sit apart and wear masks and limit the meeting to just signing only - documents are gone through over the phone first to limit exposure - we’ve done a lot of estate plans - people want their affairs in order just in case

Thank Goodness for today's technology especially for the mess that we are all in.
Just think 30 years ago, no internet, few mobile phones, no email. Very frightening. Thank Goodness for today's technology.

So far this year, I hate 2020. Things will eventually get better, right???

So if we could all just keep our mouths shut, most would be able to go about their lives and the virus would die off. Better yet, just require masks if you want to say anything. Otherwise, shut the hell up.

I love this!!!!

This sort of thing seems almost silly to me. As if someone is going to arrive at the airport and answer “yes” to any of these questions knowing it will mean they can’t get on the plane. If they go to the trouble of going to the airport and going through security, they’re going to say whatever they need to say to fly. So it seems rather pointless.

You need to go back further. As a society we decided to ignore science - either because it was a way to get votes, it was too expensive, or just too inconvenient. Thinkers like Bill Gates have been crying out in the wilderness, like John the Baptist, warning people that it was a matter of "when," not "if," this happened.

This is part of the reason I refuse to play along with the half-baked efforts to "flatten the curve." If a space rock were to hit the Earth - one that could have been detected and deflected - it would be the same thing - lots of misery and overworked health care professionals. We did this to ourselves.

(And you really should do a YouTube Channel on your attempt to live China-free. It would be must-watch for millions.)
