I’m thinking and wondering and hoping that after more people get infected and learn how truly horrible it can be, and after more people are dropping like flies and hospitals are overwhelmed and look like Wuhan (bodies stacked in the waiting rooms, etc), that some people MAY approach it more seriously this second time around, but that’s probably not the case.

I’m sick seeing this about China. We are stuck in a vicious loop.

In the June 8 WHO PC, Dr. Mike was expressing his concern about Central and South America. He did say though that they are experienced with eradication of polio and measles.

Anyone following the new outbreak of Ebola in DRC? They had justttt thought they had finally eradicated it and it’s popped up again.

Yes, and Peru and Brazil are in a terrible state, doing their best to compile stats from death certificates, but it is probably much worse than reported.

The Chinese case is very worrying, but they will send large numbers of responders to round up everyone they can find who might even remotely be exposed (as in, whole apartments will be quarantined for at least 2 weeks if one person there has had contact with any of the infected). This is of course, an approach that works quickly and well - and avoids the immediate need to shut down everything. They're trying to avoid community spread.

I wish that I could meet your Great Grandmother too. Perhaps she has left you a legacy of her influence that is part of you today.
But we do have them in our memories.. I did have good years with my grandmother, and we loved each other very much... but as we get older, we appreciate history more. I would have loved to have shared more about the depression, her suffragettes, WW1, and 2, Jim Crow, McCarthy... so much I wish I could share with her when I was "more" adult than I was when she died.

But you ARE agreeing with the article.
Rather than LEARNING as a country to do better and still work HARD to do both---> go back to work, and steadfastly follow the medical and healthcare guidance we are trying to go BACKWARDS to a former state.. that state no longer exists. Hardly anyone wears a mask where I live. When I talk to my son and my daughter living in different states...EVERYone is wearing a mask. What gives?
What gives? Politics?

I could not agree more. Although I wear a mask, I'm beginning to feel like an alien. It's like everything is going back to a pre-virus normal without, of course, things being normal, and I keep wondering if coronavirus will be taken seriously again. It seems to me that Americans, as a whole, have become uncaring and just want to get back to their own normal lives no matter if others are hospitalized and dying. I never thought I would see this side of so many individuals.

I know...

It's also like some kind of “denial” thing—-if they don’t acknowledge it, it doesn’t exist.

The link works well, its a nice feature that I began using too ;)

It appears to me that the leader's (across all entities) top priority is restarting the economy then the upcoming election. As far as the pandemic, it seems we will be on our own - all my honest opinion.

My plan is to prepare for a second wave and to continue following the advice of the medical advisors.

I'm in Dallas where things are growing worse each day. Actually the entire state's numbers are headed in the wrong direction. I've followed this subject since the threads were started and because of that I was able to prepare before we were officially shut down. My questions is what are you all doing to prepare from this point? Are you looking at your preparations differently than you did in March? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I am considering catching up on my doctors appointments this month because it appears things are going to be worse as the summer progresses. I need a MRI (with a mask is not going to be fun) and broke my glasses.

I talked to a good friend with whom I hadn’t spoken in a while.

She is a brilliant person and very highly educated college professor.

She told me she thinks this is all a “conspiracy designed to control people”.

I quickly steered the conversation because I’ve already banged heads with enough of my friends.

I don’t understand though how even highly educated people just will not accept this virus at face value, and give it the respect it needs so we can overcome it.

She also complained about wearing a mask and how this is a violation of her rights.

I just don’t get it.
You're not alone. It's getting more and more challenging to keep my husband home and safe. Sigh. His buddies are out and about. A good friend that lives in another state and my husband had a fishing trip planned for right now--would have involved flying, hotel etc. My husband decided not to go a couple months ago. His buddy still went and has been texting pictures all day long of the huge fish he's catching. SO NOT HELPFUL. Another older buddy who goes out to breakfast, lunch and dinner every day--and has during this whole time, don't ask me where but there were places open I guess--wants to go fishing around here. His words to my husband were "When is she (meaning me) going to take you off lock down?" ARRRGH. Why does it always have to be ME. Just once I'd like him to say "It's my choice".

Venting.

Rant over lol.

But seriously, it's like everyone just is like Yippeeeee! Virus done! I just checked. Almost 20,000 new cases in the US just today.

I feel like banging my head against the counter repeatedly.

Instead I'll pour a glass of wine.

I have a brother in Dallas and he doesn't take this very seriously even though he is 50. Why? Because his wife tested postitive for the antibodies (she was very sick in March) and he tested neg. was never sick like her and says he has "superior genes" sigh.

Anyways...I think if you do not have a deep freezer- even if you get just a small apartment size one...you are being smart. I do know they are very hard to come by....and on backorder. I realized in the middle of lockdown how much I needed that extra freezer space and was lucky to get a small one off Amazon...but I had to check every day and my first order was cancelled.

I also think that when you go to the stores now, even if you have what you think is enough at home, pick up an extra pkg of tp and paper towels, yeast, disinfectant (so hard to find even now- supplies will be back up I heard in July). One thing I found was I enjoyed doing puzzles. But I only had one and when I finished it, everywhere online was sold out. I finally got one in town, called the place and they did a curbside delivery for me.
But this time I am stocking up on those!

I am still adding to my preps and also dropping off items for my son and dil - they work all week and do not have the time to find all the things.

Oh, I also bought a Brita pitcher (not that brand but a nicer one) so I don't have to worry about stocking bottled water. I still keep it on hand, but that also means less trips to the store.

Gather everything you can think of in the time we have for home projects, hobbies, comfort and to save trips to the outside world when/if this hits.

12K for a wedding???? Crazy, I would put that towards my home. I know they want to celebrate because it is a joyous event but 12k!!!, blows my mind especially with so many people out of work. To each their own. I hope it is really nice for 12K,, beyond my comprehension.

Don't shoot me but weddings have become major productions. I understand the importance of weddings but I think they need to be scaled back. Why do you have to feed the guests? I know it is nice but why not a finger food reception. I paid for my own wedding so I guess I think cheap.. I hope the bride and groom have a wonderful life.
I agree! A wedding is not a 3 ring circus! I think mine was $600 in 1989!
Thank you, this is all her. He would have settled for the JOP before the baby was born. She was not having it. I kinda respect that a little?
She wants what she wants because she is only doing this once.
OR NOT...
Time will tell, but my gut says September 2020 will be a month we all want to forget!

I'm starting to pick up extras before they become obsolete again. I have yearly imaging to be done here in my City in Aug. Dr. I see does some appt's in my City and I snagged one end of Sept. I'm not sure what that will look like by then. City he comes from has many more cases and not sure when that time comes if our Hospital will allow him in. If not he is not that far away.

I’m in the same boat with our daughter getting married. They put down money last year to reserve the venue...they are paying for the majority of the wedding...therefore I feel like I really don’t have reason to balk at their decision. She does realize it could be postponed, I just don’t think she really wants to give up on it just yet. Makes me very anxious too.
I am right here with you!
We haven't given them a dime towards their home or the wedding.
They are 25 and almost 28.
We offered to pay for a small church wedding before the baby.
They declined.
It's tough love... my son knows that we don’t approve and never have, but he has stayed the course, so I am disappointed and impressed with him at the same time.
I hope your kids are able to be ok with whatever happens as well!

I bet I know where she gets her news.
The same place a friend of mine gets hers! IMO
She is convinced this is population control and was all known and done on purpose.
My QUESTION...
How could they have been sure that a virus they "released" wouldn't replicate and kill the entire world?
They couldn't therefore THAT never happened.

Young folks now make weddings a full weekend event, open bar Friday night with appetizers. Saturday is the wedding, with early bar, snacks, dancing, full dinner, dancing, picture taking, cake cutting, dessert bar, dancing...everyone is meeting new people, having a great time.

But seriously, with the COVID19, I doubt that people are going to be traveling much, or partying much. And right now, saving money is probably a better plan. Jobs are not steady, even jobs that used to be absolutely bulletproof. Those folks may need that money to pay for necessities. JMO.

Good ideas @tabitha111. We’ve been picking up extra paper and cleaning products a little at a time when they are available. I wanted to order a small freezer earlier when you could still get them but my dh didn’t see the need. He still doesn’t. Or rather, doesn’t want the hassle. We live in a third floor apartment and it would have to go out on our deck and be “garage ready” which will tolerate temps from 0-110 degrees F (I’m sure it gets over 110 on the deck since it faces south, so that gives me pause). I have one in my cart at Home Depot on backorder until September just in case he can be persuaded. If not, we can make do. I will restock canned goods, grains and dry food. We keep our bread in the freezer, so I may stock up on tortillas as a substitute since they don’t take up much room. And possibly brush up on my bread-making skills from the 1970’s. :)

I honestly see no problem with wearing a depends just in case. Moo JMO. I don’t expect this to be a popular post LOL.

Great suggestion, and I definitely will do that! Glad that I have some on hand.

I have a group of gal pals and some of us have known each other since grade school. We are really missing our gatherings we had every few months. So I am hosting in our backyard. We can be apart, everyone bring their own chair, snacks, wine and glass. They have the option of using a designated bathroom in the house. I will have hand soap, sanitizer, Lysol wipes and paper towel. Other option is to pee in the corner. I have no doubt some will for a trip down memory lane :D
