I agree that we need to be planning for the fall and slowly getting items to store for use later.
I will stock up again on dog food, rice, paper products, Ensure and the like.
Meat has doubled in the price per pound locally. I did get some from the butcher last week. - @ normal price.
Freezers are unavailable online or anywhere else as far as I can tell.
I saw a 7.0 cubic ft stand up freezer that normally might be $200.00 on a yard sale site for $400.00!
I gave mine to my son last year and I'm kicking myself now.
He hasn't even used it yet!
I may buy a side by side fridge for extra freezer space since we are empty nesters now.
It's like the first of February all over again!
De ja vu!

Grrrrrrrr.... I just saw an Instagram post by a young friend who is a nurse. A couple of friends just graduated from nursing school and they had a party with about 6 of them in a group shot. All hugging, no masks. I guess they thought they were compliant with Oregon’s stage 2 by keeping the group under 10? Or is it more likely they are in denial because of their age and didn’t bother thinking? Or just don’t care?...despite their careers! :(

I went and looked at cars today, some great deals now, anyway, the salesman was telling me that custom orders, not gonna happen. And stock may get very low, as new cars are not coming into the lot.

This sort of tells me, that manufacturing cars is a problem. No doubt due to COVID19. I wonder what else is going to be affected...

My daughter is a nurse and has this same cavalier attitude right now. :(

I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone.

Young folks now make weddings a full weekend event, open bar Friday night with appetizers. Saturday is the wedding, with early bar, snacks, dancing, full dinner, dancing, picture taking, cake cutting, dessert bar, dancing...everyone is meeting new people, having a great time.

But seriously, with the COVID19, I doubt that people are going to be traveling much, or partying much. And right now, saving money is probably a better plan. Jobs are not steady, even jobs that used to be absolutely bulletproof. Those folks may need that money to pay for necessities. JMO.

These are some really good points!!!
Frankly, at this point, I’d feel safer in China. At least they take this crap seriously. Kidding. Not kidding.

For everyone who takes this seriously pack your bags. Let's move in with Dr. Fauci.

:)
I have a group of gal pals and some of us have known each other since grade school. We are really missing our gatherings we had every few months. So I am hosting in our backyard. We can be apart, everyone bring their own chair, snacks, wine and glass. They have the option of using a designated bathroom in the house. I will have hand soap, sanitizer, Lysol wipes and paper towel. Other option is to pee in the corner. I have no doubt some will for a trip down memory lane :D
I think this will be so good for you Bravo:)

I think you name it, it's going to be affected. We definitely need to be thinking about this and what, if anything, we can do to prepare. (Obviously the prepping ideas already under discussion are very helpful.) This is a great group of posters with lots of experience and knowledge to draw on.

You're not alone. It's getting more and more challenging to keep my husband home and safe. Sigh. His buddies are out and about. A good friend that lives in another state and my husband had a fishing trip planned for right now--would have involved flying, hotel etc. My husband decided not to go a couple months ago. His buddy still went and has been texting pictures all day long of the huge fish he's catching. SO NOT HELPFUL. Another older buddy who goes out to breakfast, lunch and dinner every day--and has during this whole time, don't ask me where but there were places open I guess--wants to go fishing around here. His words to my husband were "When is she (meaning me) going to take you off lock down?" ARRRGH. Why does it always have to be ME. Just once I'd like him to say "It's my choice".

Venting.

Rant over lol.

But seriously, it's like everyone just is like Yippeeeee! Virus done! I just checked. Almost 20,000 new cases in the US just today.

I feel like banging my head against the counter repeatedly.

Instead I'll pour a glass of wine.

That is really frustrating! Some people are just stupid, you’re doing the right thing.

Sigh. In our state (Oregon) the highest number of of cases are among ones 20-29 years old, followed closely by 30-39 and 40-49. Of course they are not in the age range with the most deaths...lucky them. Invincible youth! But how many deaths might they have caused by not being careful? :(

These recent spikes are very concerning.

I talked to a good friend with whom I hadn’t spoken in a while.

She is a brilliant person and very highly educated college professor.

She told me she thinks this is all a “conspiracy designed to control people”.

I quickly steered the conversation because I’ve already banged heads with enough of my friends.

I don’t understand though how even highly educated people just will not accept this virus at face value, and give it the respect it needs so we can overcome it.

She also complained about wearing a mask and how this is a violation of her rights.

I just don’t get it.

I don't get it either: it is a head scratcher isn't it???

Excellent summary and so true. We who have to worry are in the minority.

Since, so far, this virus hasn't really swept through the under 20 set in many nations, we're relying on the Italian, Chinese and Spanish data. Israeli data is great and quite complete. It would seem that 40% of children under 12 may not be susceptible to CoVid and there is now research to confirm that number and explain why.

By 12, children are more susceptible (probably androgens), and by 20, young people appear to be infected at the same rate (and therefore transmitting). People of all ages appear to be equally infectious (capable of transmitting).

High school teachers have to be a bit worried. The outcome for under 20's is much better, too (although as we all know, a single death of a child within a state or region is going to cause strong reactions in many parents). Kids who are not vaccinated are at much higher risk (MMR seems to be protective, but the immune challenges of vaccinations in general seem to be one reason the young have better outcomes). The decade of the 20's is pretty good too. Morbidity starts to increase in the 30's and about 30% of Americans in that demographic have one or more underlying conditions.

I don't think that a .04% mortality rate (4 in 10,000; 1 in 2500) is going to cause most of these people to change their behavior. But, if every large high school gets 1 death after a CV outbreak, I do think people will pause and take stock.

(We don't know the actual case mortality rate - if everyone eventually gets CoVid). It's 1% for people 60 and over. 3% for 75 and over, approximate. 5% or higher for the over 85 group.

About half of people with symptomatic CoVid will have months of ill health and some will have lifelong issues (especially those with the unresolved Ground Glass Opacities in their lungs or heart damage). I can't even imagine the eventual costs of all this.

Reading about what the survivors are going through is shocking- i just never imagined this virus could cause such long lasting, sometimes permanent organ damage. Some of those people may never get their sense of smell and taste back; some of them will have permanent scarring of their lungs: others are left with kidney and liver damage: those who have been on a ventilator for so long may have some permanent brain damage. By any measure, this virus is evil.

Wearing masks and keeping six feet away, of course! :D
We will all be tested just before we all move in. Dr. and Mrs. Fauci will have to be tested daily of course. Mask and stay away from us :D

I hear ya!!! my husband is hot to golf on his league since we got back to Michigan and i don't think i can stop him: it makes me anxious to think he could bring the virus home and wind up making both of us sick or worse: i know he doesn't quite get it. i have to keep reminding him to wash his hands when we come back from grocery shopping (while i am washing down everything we bought)--- i know he isn't stupid (well, at least i don't think so LOL)--- it frustrates the heck out of me- he just keeps saying well, we can't stay home, we have to live our lives -- blah blah blah
