I've been watching your Iowa numbers and comparing them to our California numbers - you're doing well. We have about 12X more people in California, and 2400 new cases from June 14.
Our deaths have dropped (only 30 yesterday) so on that front, CA is improving. I think they're doing much better at keeping it out of long term care facilities.
This sucks too.

Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted discussed the issue of unemployment fraud during Tuesday’s coronavirus press briefing. He said roughly 3,000 fraudulent claims have been made in Ohio by criminals who are filing for unemployment on behalf of real people who haven’t lost their jobs.
“Unfortunately, there are some people out there who tried to take advantage of others during this crisis,” Husted said. “The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services is working to secure your tax dollars and benefits that are due to you and not to fraudsters.”
Husted said the state of Washington flagged 190,000 fraudulent claims totaling $650 million in unemployment insurance.

Can't be done with public toilets because they don't have lids.
Exactly! Those automatic ones spray everywhere and with such force! Have always grossed me out, way before a pandemic

This is what caused the SARS epidemic at Amoy Gardens. Ventilation fans in bathrooms sent aerosolized feces from toilet plumes into downwind apartments. It's disgusting but it's important!

In an interview with AFP, the Scottish-born Princeton professor called for changes to the US healthcare system and the power of the country's big tech firms.
"Someone compared the pandemics to an X-ray machine that makes the inequalities already there much more transparent," the 75-year-old said.
"The educated people, most of us have jobs we can continue to do almost the same way, we talk to people on Zoom and we get paid just the same."
But those with less formal education are often "essential workers (who) risk their lives with COVID. Or if they are in non-essential things, they might lose their jobs".
In the United States, death rates have risen for those without a university degree and are going down for those with one, he says.
In addition, "mortality rates from COVID are much higher for African Americans than they are for whites".
He said these factors could not have predicted the wave of protests that have swept the US following the death of George Floyd.

"There are a huge number of people who have been treated for COVID and survived and will end up with huge medical bills.
"There's a huge number of people that have died from COVID and their families will end up with huge medical bills.

I'm not an expert but I think you're referring to infectious dose, i.e., the amount of virus required to make you sick. Viral load refers to the amount of virus present in an infected person's body.

Went to doctor today for way over due appointment.
They've moved the sign in station and the waiting room to outside.
Chairs placed 10 feet apart.
I appreciated that.
But then they called me inside for the appointment, and the damn doctor kept me waiting in that little room for 35 minutes.
So, I went out, told them I was leaving and would reschedule, when I didn't have to wait.
Well, that got them on their toes, so they got the doctor in to see me immediately.
All in all, I was inside for about 50 minutes, which made me nervous, even with my mask on and being alone. I kept envisioning little Covit-19 bugs flying in the air through the air unit.
Good news is I've only gained 3 pounds since my last visit, I thought for sure it would be triple that.
Time to shake off those pounds

After 2.2 million Americans have been tested and found positive for CV-19, about 120K of us have died. 1.2 million are still sick.
About 4-5% of us have antibodies (larger numbers in and around NY/NJ, smaller numbers in the middle of the nation and in rural places - where I live, it's just 1%).
Estimates are that at least 500,000 Americans have CoVid but don't know it.
About 40% of Americans say they are not ready to go back into indoor restaurants, theaters or enclosed stadiums. About the same number are uncertain if they want to send their children to school.
Major American universities that research viruses and epidemiology are pretty much going online until January.
It's going to take until at least January to know what happens next.
Anyway, if we go back to "normal," which it appears we are, then...most adults will get CoVid over time. Probably at rates that start to rise. Even the asymptomatic may have lifelong lung issues that reduce their life expectancy slightly.
What will 2021 be like? We will have experienced continued loss of many of those who are over 90.
The numbers of people aged 60-90 will be thinned.
Older people will increasingly be shut-ins. One thing younger people don't realize is that when they are the only ones in a setting, they often like to be there by choice. As everyone knows, they also behave differently, which is interesting for us WSers.
But many young people also seek out settings where there are old people (museum docents, mentor settings, old surfers, old hunters and trackers, other teachers, yoga instructors, older nurses whose very faces denote experience). They become fans of older authors and others. And they get old eventually themselves.
Young people often enjoy the mild shock value their customs inflict on the elderly - but there will be less audience for the "shock". In some families no more grandparents to regale/bore you with stories at Christmas. Or, perhaps better said as no great-grandparents for many, no grandparents for some families.
For many people, this will mean a whole different social dynamic (siblings having to divide up the property of their parents, people whose parents were still working will not be able to make house payments on their own in many cases, people still on their parents' insurance are few, but they are still a significant group. They'll survive and learn to navigate healthcare and medical insurance.So much else. Debts left unpaid, people dying intestate, etc, etc. Just as it is right now. As soon as it gets to a new area, it's bad at first, then levels off and just continues its toll. Until there is a vaccine.
And on that front, there is room for cautious optimism. But it won't be in the U.S. any time before Christmas. If it is, that's a miracle.

the worst thing about those automatic toilets is when it flushes when you
are still sitting on it- it is so gross--i have to jump off before am done-
