Arizona is among 14 states seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases. Arizona has hit its highest seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Nationwide protests, relaxed stay-at-home limitations and reopenings could play a role in increasing numbers, according to The Washington Post.

The surging numbers gave some health officials concern. But Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, who relaxed COVID-19 restrictions two weeks ago, said in a news conference Thursday that he is not planning to change course. Calls seeking comment from his office Friday were not immediately returned.

“I am confident that we’ve made the best and most responsible decisions possible, guided by public health the entire way,” Ducey said Thursday. “This virus is not going away.”

Arizona ranks No. 20 among states with the most confirmed COVID-19 cases. New York leads the nation with the highest number of COVID-19 cases.

Of course they do. It's how they use those freedoms I disagree with. I hear their opinions all the time on the radio and internet when they have a book or album to sell. Generally I don't listen to anyone's opinion if they are profiting from it. They should stick to music IMO.

I am wondering if these new cases coming out are a result of the protests? It seems a bit too coincidental.

First it's just in your nose (or mouth/throat - nose is probably more susceptible). Then it replicates. It would eventually get into your lungs in greater amounts, not sure why anyone would say "while sleeping," except that we tend to breathe differently while sleeping, so maybe it gets deeper into the pockets of your lungs.

That's where it's headed: into the depths of your lungs, its pockets, and most especially, the lining of the lungs where it finds the right kinds of cells to host it. Then it hijacks your lung lining cells, spreads through your pulmonary and cardiovascular system, heading to epithelial cells throughout your body.

If you were sleeping in a room with someone with CV, obviously, that would be far longer than the recommended exposure to a person who is shedding CV virions.

I think the sleeping is because the breathing when lying down is more likely to draw the nose mucous into the airways more than when one is upright, walking around and blowing the nose when necessary. Some advocate the nasal saline rinse too.

Everyone seems to be ignoring the huge elephant in the room. Why are we pretending Trump’s rally is going to end civilization as we know it but ignoring the fact that thousands of people in hundreds of cities are milling around in tent cities, using Porta potties or public bathrooms, standing shoulder to shoulder, screaming and spitting on police officers just inches from their faces, for weeks on end. Remember that black people had a very high rate of coronavirus before the protests? Imagine what it is now? Nobody cares that they want to kill grandma, because racism?

Well, I think I have different expectations for the Leader of the Free World than for disenfranchised protesters of all ethnicities. When a government agent organizes something, plans it and makes it seem safe to supporters, that's rather different than people heading spontaneously into the streets to join a large, non-governmentally planned activity.

Yes, African-Americans in some places were more highly represented among CoVId cases (but not everywhere; Georgia is the best example of that where something like 85% of people dying from CoVid are black). Perhaps you can attribute some of the anger to that very fact. No one has done much public health education but the APOE-4 gene that makes a serious course of CoVid is higher in the African-American population.

Trump's rally won't end any civilization. However, it's strange that people who support a political cause would do something to endanger their own people. You'd think they'd want those people to be healthy.

We will learn something about transmission rates in indoor venues, where the average age is probably 45. I fear that OK will take the brunt of it. It's not surprising that mayors and other public officials are expressing fear and concern.

I agree the protests were a way to spread this awful disease, but this political rally is INSIDE.

No, they didn't. I've added a screenshot of the positive case graph. There was a new testing facility that had their results loaded. Some of today's positives go back to early April.

Days/Weeks later, they are proven correct. Things start to decline, rates of outbreak begin to increase, all following the same pattern as months earlier, and matching the predictions of those intelligent individuals weeks prior.

Are they praised for being correct? Do the masses who poo poo'd the warnings and predictions, suddenly realize the accuracy of those forecasts, and change their beliefs? OF COURSE NOT.

Instead, bring on the excuses. Bring on the explanations. Bring on the "It's Impossible To Go Back Or Remain Stagnant, We Must Move Forward, And Continue Opening Everything Up."

We are a Worldwide Embarrassment.

It's not even remotely true that those attending protests were not cited/criticized for potentially spreading Covid19 afterwards. Claiming not to have heard about the potential danger to others is nothing more than letting all know, again, what your political bent is. We're suppose to keep that out of all discussions btw.

The rally will have the same consequences for Covid19 spread to many communities as the protests do. The end result will be far fewer voters in November.

The virus gets in the nose then when you sleep it can run back into your throat and you breath it into your lungs. Squirting this in your nose before you go to bed would prevent that allegedly.

Perhaps you had some of us on ignore or we didn't say it loudly enough? No one here was applauding. I'm appalled, but I understand why it's happening.

What I keep saying is that all of these mass events will help us understand outdoor crowd transmission. That's the only silver lining.

These are occurring around the world and no government has found a way to stop them, in many nations people are willing to die in the protest itself to get their point across - an intractable problem for centuries. The issues that are bringing people into the streets are really varied, from place to place.

The virus doesn't care what any of us say about it.

And the disenfranchised people now include a lot of younger people who justifiably feel their hopes are dashed/lives are ruined/mot going to plan. It's a pan-global problem. No government is able to control the unrest easily and what's going on in some nations is absolutely terrifying and medieval.

But we don't usually talk about that here. Most don't talk about it at all - we talk about what concerns us immediately about this crisis. I hope this post isn't too political, because that was not my intent.

Anyway, everyone I know personally worries tremendously about the protesters infecting their families and coworkers, and I didn't see the applause or praise. I guess we're in different social universes.

They can speak on a subject to further a cause they believe in if they choose to speak about it. They have that right. Not everyone considers a subject to be all about them.
