New York Cops Will Stop Cars With Out-Of-State License Plates And Impose Fines Of Up To $10,000 On Anyone Who Doesn't Stick To 14-Day Quarantine After Arriving In Tri-State Area From Coronavirus Hotspots

"Anyone who travels to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut from states that are still seeing high coronavirus numbers will have to quarantine for 14 days.

The governors of each state announced the decision on Wednesday.

In New York, cops will stop cars with license plates from the affected states to ask the person why they are not quarantining and how long they have been in the state for.

The quarantine applies to any state with infection rate of 10 infections per 100,000 people on a seven day rolling average or 10 percent of the total population testing positive.

The states that currently applies to are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah and Texas.

It will go into effect in New York at midnight and anyone caught violating it faces fines of up to $10,000."

I will try watching on FaceBook (my DH's account--I'm not on FB myself :)).

I may not be able to watch, so if you feel like giving us a summary it would be great. No pressure though. :)

In my opinion what those governors did is shocking and criminal.

"And of course here in the United States, it appears that the effect of COVID-19 was primarily exacerbated by a misguided policy imposed by the Governors of just 6 states--New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusettes and Michigan--that forced nursing homes to take back patients who tested positive for COVID-19 to protect and conserve hospital resources.

At least 50% of the US COVID-19 deaths were individuals in nursing homes."

Study from PSU suggests that the initial infection rate in the US may be up to 80 times greater than originally reported.

NY, NJ, CT, PA, MA, and MI account for less than 20% of the US population, but more than 55% of the US COVID-19 deaths.

NY, NJ, CT, PA, MA, and MI combined: 69,198 COVID-19 deaths

All other 44 US states: 54,275 COVID-19 deaths

Those 6 states each have the highest rate of deaths per reported/confirmed cases, ranging from 7.3% up to 9.3%. New Hampshire at 6.2% and Louisiana (which is one of the states that most heavily relies on Medicare/Medicaid) at 6.1% are the only two states have rates above 6%.

NY, NJ, CT, PA, MA, and MI combined: Death rate of 7.7% of reported confirmed cases.

All other 44 US states combined: Death rate of 2.2% of reported confirmed cases.

What a devastating and deadly policy decision by the governors of those 6 states.

Coronavirus deaths are down 90% since late April. This should be the number one story tomorrow for every national news show. Will any news station make it the number one story? I promise it will be the first thing I say on @outkick, but I bet I’m the only one. Here’s chart:

Hopefully, they'll also show that we've reached all time highs in numbers of new cases - the deaths from which won't show up for about a month.

We don't know the true number of nursing home deaths because a third of states aren't reporting them, last I heard. They are not included in the death stats. If what you say is true, and 50% of deaths are in nursing homes, does that mean the US national death toll must be loads higher because the death count for approx 17 states needs to be doubled?

(trying to do the maths!)

TORONTO -- Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he was shocked to see so many people flocking to Toronto beaches over the weekend, warning that the province could see a surge in COVID-19 cases if they aren’t careful.

this next story is related because the moose wouldn't have died if all the beachgoers hadn't got in the way:

CNN just showed video of constituents YELLING & INSULTING Palm Beach Board of Directors, as they debated requiring the wearing of masks. Beyond the fact they were arguing against masks, some of their remarks were downright rude and angry.

The meeting on CNN was the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners. That’s an area with close to 1.5 million people, with cases soaring every day. I live in Palm Beach County, and I’m pleased that the County Commissioners voted 7-0 to require masks, despite the rude and angry crowd. Note that many constituents will not go in person to an open meeting like this, because of the anti-mask “civil libertarians” refusing to wear masks in an indoor setting. I think the overwhelming majority of our residents support a mask ordinance. My concern is whether the anti-mask protesters will be able to have their way and pressure the Commissioners to repeal the order...

Orange Co. (Orlando, Fl.) has a mandatory mask
order but admit they don't enforce it.
So maybe Palm Bch. Co. will be the same. ??

I REALLY FEEL for the people in the hot South. Having to wear a mask SUCKS as it is.

All the more reason, moo, to stay home in the AC.

Again, it must be stressed over and over, mask wearing is only a part of what should be a comprehensive package which includes, very importantly, both governmental and community engagement.

I expect that most places have a mandatory shirt & shoes policy. I've decided that I longer wish to wear those in public. It violates my rights. I wonder if they'll enforce that when I walk into a restaurant or store.

Miami reports many hospitals at full capacity.
Miami Mayor (R) says they won't allow Trump to have a rally there. They're not allowing large crowds or large arenas to open yet.
Do you have a link please?

The order will have a positive effect even if some people refuse to wear them. A major effect will be on businesses. We have supermarkets and other big businesses with employees without masks. Corporate policies will pressure them to wear masks, and businesses will have more support forcing customers to wear masks or leave. There will always be those who refuse, but at least it will help maintain wearing masks as a norm while it is in effect.

To clarify:
On Sunday , coronavirus deaths declined by 90% in this country from the high set on April 21st.

On Monday deaths were also down 90% from the April 21st peak, meaning there were two straight days this occurred, again, with almost zero media coverage.

On April 21st 2,693 people died of the coronavirus. Yesterday 267 died.

That^^^ seems like good news. Why aren't we seeing this as good news?

The problem with this is they've used the highest of high days against the lowest of low days.

If we compare with the other way round, using similar dates:
On April 21st 2,693 people died of the coronavirus. Yesterday 267 died.
On April 26th 1,158 people died of the coronavirus. Yesterday 863 died.

A drop of about 20% in the same time frame. Neither my statement, nor the one you quoted, is accurate because the numbers have been picked to reflect best/worst scenarios. The average weekly number IS dropping but certainly not that fast, therefore it wasn't widely reported because it is not true.

having a rally (rallies) during a pandemic, especially a pandemic that is surging is amoral.
IMO people should be accountable for their own action. Just because there’s a rally doesn’t mean you need to attend. If you choose to attend that’s on you.
