Hi y’all. I’ve so much to catch up on. I hope you are all happy as we can be.

As of Wednesday, the advisory applies to Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah and Texas. It begins tonight at midnight.

The announcement is a 180-degree flip from just a few months ago, when the tri-state area, and New York City in particular, was the epicenter of the pandemic.

200624113128-new-york-travel-restriction-chart-medium-plus-169.jpg
The 7-day moving average of new cases has declined in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
In late March, President Donald Trump considered placing the three states under a quarantine, Rhode Island police stopped vehicles with New York license plates, and Florida directed all travelers from the tri-state area to isolate or quarantine for two weeks.

Months of strict lockdown rules, widespread testing and imperfect attempts at contact tracing have brought cases under control in the tri-state area and the region. New cases are on the decline this past week compared to the week before in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

But now, states in the South and West are seeing what Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, called a "disturbing surge" in cases.
...
NY, NJ and CT require travelers from states with high coronavirus rates to quarantine for two weeks

"Like" X 100!! So happy to see you posting again!

I expect that most places have a mandatory shirt & shoes policy. I've decided that I longer wish to wear those in public. It violates my rights. I wonder if they'll enforce that when I walk into a restaurant or store.
They would definitely enforce it if I went in without them...........

Miami reports many hospitals at full capacity.
Miami Mayor (R) says they won't allow Trump to have a rally there. They're not allowing large crowds or large arenas to open yet.

Last I heard Trump said he’s moving his rally to Jacksonville.

Good luck with that!

It would take me longer to drive from DTW to my Sisters than a flight from where I live in Canada lol Not that I would get on a plane anyhoo.

If their not worried by going to a rally they certainly aren’t going to self quarantine after they attend. No different than the protesters.

ETA: Drunk driving is also against the law. People attending rally’s aren’t breaking the law by going.

No, but it’s against CDC Guidance and the recommendations and advice of medical professionals and experts around the world. And anyone else who has half a brain.

Not everyone cares about these rallies, we care about our lives and minimizing the effects of this virus. We ALL want to get back to our lives and businesses.

And it SHOULD be against the LAW imo: CONSCIOUSLY ENDANGERING PUBLIC SAFETY AND PEOPLE’s LIVES.

Furthermore, and which is the saddest and scariest of all, is endangering the people you are sworn to lead and protect.

Your Niece is likely aware any Canadian returning has to quarantine 14 days. Too risky to visit. On May 29th my Husband had a heart attack. I hesitate putting it out for all but he us fine. That was hard. Off he went with EMS to our Hospital and then on to an excellent Teaching Hospital for a balloon and a stent. He is fine and doing excellent. My saving grace was our Adult Children work at our Hospital and were able to see him since I could not.Our Nurse Daughter was present when Dr's came in. It's far too risky as he is now in an even higher category. So facetime will have to work. Michigan is not doing so hot right now.

So sorry about the extra stress you, your husband and family have been dealing with @Bravo, but I’m glad things looking up. Hugs!

Hi Tippy,

It’s not just about THEM. It’s about EVERYBODY. You think they’ll all stay at home and not infect others??? That’s where this logic so clearly fails: it’s not about just them. Clearly and very obviously this is about containing transmission and minimizing risk to ALL.

Okay, I'm going to say something that is certainly controversial and it's only an hypothesis. I too am struggling to understand the minds of these people.

I think the reason they actually don't care is that...consciously or unconsciously, they think *only older people will die.* There's a lot of pent-up resentment among younger people about older people "staying too long in the workplace" or "selling their home in the city and driving up prices in the suburbs or countryside." There are a thousand similar statements that one can easily find on forums for younger people. "They are about to die anyway." "I don't want to live past 60/50/50 if you ask me." "Life must be lived right now! When you're old, there's nothing to do." "Old people voted for Trump/Brexit/etc, I hate them." "Boomers are responsible for the entire planetary situation." And even worse.

So. There's an element of inter-generational conflict (dare I call it warfare??)

Maybe I'm too out there with this theory, but I do hang out with young people (and on other forums where they hang out).

If you change the premise on which they rest their logic to "We think there are too many old people" then their behavior is logical. They also may think we're silly for clinging to life by staying home. Even if that's not a conscious thought, working backward from their behavior, that premise makes them rational again. But not compassionate and, well, people disagree on how to construct moral and ethical behavior.

There's a lot they don't realize yet, sadly.

Edited: a word

Thanks sweets. It's all good now. If I may share one complaint? I now have another walking buddy which is great as he needs to do this but I also walk with a gal pal and a lot of days I'm doing 5-6 miles. LOL

My neighbor is a couple with 2 kids under the age of 5. They used to go to a daycare, but for the last 3+ months, they've been home, and spend a lot of time playing on our little cul-de-sac.

The last couple of weeks, they've been doing home improvements. All new wood floors, cabinets, and who knows what else. (edit: shutters!) There have been workers going in and out, working outside, None wearing masks.

Anyways, things appear more back to normal each day. Of course, my city has gone from 45 cases since March, to 55 cases in the past 3 days.

I just wanted to add that in addition to @10ofRods, many others on this thread make valuable contributions. And I appreciate you all very much!

Ha ha! Yes, I’m sure it’s hard to walk for exercise with someone slower than you. Not that I would know, since I’d be the slow one. :D

I think I’ve got the campaign trail mapped out: look for cases of high spread and spikes, and that’s where he’ll go. It certainly isn’t a deterrent or cause for increased caution and responsibility by him.

That’s another thing. I must’ve posted TEN ARTICLES on younger people and their transmission rates on the same day that Phoenix rally was held. Again, SCIENCE, concern, and real time numbers as relating to this virus blatantly ignored.

I'm so sorry about your husband's heart attack but glad to hear he is doing well. I wish every hospitalized patient (whether COVID or not) could have an advocate like your daughter. I can't imagine not being able to be with my husband if he were hospitalized--or, for that matter, DH not being able to be with me if I were.

Edited by me to add words in parentheses.

A friend of mine is soooo happy. She got to have a half hour outdoor visit with her Mom yesterday at Nursing Home. Required her to mask and confirm she had a covid test. Health Care Worker assisted her Mom and managed her at staying 6 ft. away. She is 96 years old.
