This is a strange situation:

Argentina is trying to solve a medical mystery after 57 sailors were infected with the coronavirus after 35 days at sea, despite the entire crew testing negative before leaving port.

The Echizen Maru fishing trawler returned to port after some of its crew began exhibiting symptoms typical of COVID-19, the health ministry for the southern Tierra del Fuego province said Monday.

According to the ministry, 57 sailors, out of 61 crew members, were diagnosed with the virus after undergoing a new test

Someone might have been exposed a day or two before getting tested. The person could’ve been asymptomatic but slowly spreading it to others who were also asymptomatic until it reached people who became symptomatic?

How's this for brain mush.

I did my federal taxes online, and paid at the time of submission electronically to draft my account.

I then did my state taxes, and printed out all the forms and all of the estimated taxes which were due (from
april and june) I then wrote out all the checks, and put them in the mail.

Today, I open up my banking app and realize that I paid my BIG 1040 federal tax TWICE! Once by electronic, and second time by rote habit of writing out and mailing the check.

Thousands of dollars I am out. I tried calling IRS, but hahahaha busy and couldn't get through as tomorrow is the deadline.

Do you think they will catch and auto refund me, or am I going to have to wait months to get my thousands of dollars back.

grrrrrrr :banghead :

I am wondering if they have picked it up from the sea. I am very wary about the reports of it being found in sewage and live on a major tidal estuary so I never get too close when the waves and spray are crashing on the beach. I cannot think how else they could have got it unless one was asymptomatic when then headed out.

I have just come across this new graph in this article for UK outbreaks and where they occurred. The majority were in care homes and at the height of the UK caseload there were more than 1,000 outbreaks per week just in care homes alone. The other areas were work, hospitals, prisons, and most recently, education.

How many confirmed cases are there in your area?

There have been more than 290,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK and almost 45,000 people have died, government figures show.

These numbers only include people who have been tested, and the actual death toll will be higher.

Decline in new cases stalls - and concern over hotspots
Across the country, the number of newly confirmed cases each day has fallen since a peak in April, although the downward trend does now appear to have stalled.

On Tuesday, a further 398 cases were reported.

Find out how the pandemic has affected your area and how it compares with the national average:

Public Health England figures on coronavirus cases were updated on 2 July to include people tested in the wider community, as well as hospitals and healthcare workers, causing the numbers to increase sharply. Figures for the rest of the UK already included people tested in the wider population.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said targeted action is being taken against local outbreaks of coronavirus every week.

One recent outbreak has been at a farm in Herefordshire, where more than 70 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed. The remaining staff have been told to self-isolate.

_105914179_blank_white_space-nc.png

Data from Public Health England show that confirmed infections fell by 25% in the week to 5 July.

There were just over 3,300 positive tests in the week to 5 July compared to 4,400 positive tests in the week to 28 June.

Cases in Leicester, which saw lockdown measures re-imposed last week, have fallen to around 125 per 100,000 compared with about 140 per 100,000 in the previous week.

Positive virus news: Pfizer accorded fast track to vaccine. And...

It looks like very few people get CoVid twice
.

Also, a new primate study shows that immunity does last more than a few weeks - and there's a new technology for studying the T cell and B cell immunity process by which we are immune to many viruses through "memory cells." It sure does look like a previous case of this Coronavirus is protective and can be studied. One company has built some kind of testing equipment so that this can be studied much more quickly and inexpensively.

Also: many vaccines are out there, all of the RNA based ones look tremendously promising.

I've done similar. They didn't auto-refund it, but they very soon sent me a notice of a large tax credit balance that I could either have refunded or apply to next year.

I went ahead and just filed an amended return, which then gave me a refund. This was a few years ago, but the refund came fairly quickly (like a month). I have no idea what it's like now. I feel for you. I also think that everyone I know is in a frazzled state of mind.

Best Buy now requiring face coverings for store customers - Best Buy Corporate News and Information

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise throughout the country, Best Buy is joining many retailers by requiring all customers to wear face coverings when shopping in all our stores.

We will provide a face covering if a customer doesn’t have one, and small children and those unable to wear one for health reasons may enter without one. Any customer who has a concern about wearing a mask will be able to shop Best Buy via our website and app and choose home delivery or contactless curbside pickup, which remains in place at all our stores.

This new requirement, which starts July 15, will help protect not only our shoppers and communities, but also the tens of thousands of Best Buy employees working to serve our customers each day. Although the risk of infection cannot be completely eliminated as long as there is community spread of COVID-19, we’re grateful to our customers and employees for working together to do what we can to keep us all safe.

Best Buy believes relevant statewide policies requiring masks are an appropriate public health response in protecting frontline retail workers and customers from the growing spread of COVID-19.

How early did CoVid really start? There's an easy to follow graphic at the link, showing when the first reported confirmed case appeared in some countries, and also a column showing recent discoveries of earlier cases.

Japan has discovered Covid antibodies in blood samples from Jan & Mar.2019.

Louisiana attorney general tests positive for coronavirus ahead of Pence visit to state

Louisiana's Attorney General Jeff Landry (R) announced Tuesday morning that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and would as a result not meet Vice President Mike Pence when he arrives in the state later in the day.

The Louisiana Advocate reported that Landry emailed employees at the state Department of Justice informing them of his diagnosis, and explained that he was self-quarantining.

"Out of an overabundance of caution with the Vice President coming to our state, I was tested for Cornavirus," he wrote, according to the Advocate. "Though experiencing no symptoms, I tested positive for COVID-19."

The vice president is scheduled to host a joint press conference with Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) as well as meet with officials from Louisiana State University (LSU) to hear about the school's plans for reopening in the fall. The school announced plans to hold some classes on-campus in the fall despite the health crisis. Capacity in classrooms and other campus buildings will be limited.

"Just landed in the Bayou State. Today I'll be visiting @LSU to discuss reopening schools as well as the State Emergency Operations Center to deliver our message to the people of Louisiana: We will make sure you have what you need when you need it to combat the Coronavirus," Pence tweeted at midday Tuesday.
Wow. So he got tested because he was going to meet the VP and he was positive despite no symptoms. We have heard of this so many times now with people around the President, the VP and their staff.

It isn't all that mysterious considering the false negative rate is still quite high:
Tests may miss more than 1 in 5 COVID-19 cases

Unfortunately with this many sailors, all it takes is one false negative to get on board and in those tight quarters, everyone would be exposed very quickly.
At the hospitals many follow the protocol of waiting until 2 negative tests 48 hrs apart before moving a patient onto a standard floor without all the COVID precautions. Just one more reason why everyone should be acting as though they are possibly infected and taking all the possible precautions (even if you got a negative test result!)

So this is a China source saying it was in Japan in Jan 2019, Spain in March 2019, US, Brazil and France in NOV 2019 and Italy in Dec 2019. This is coming out at a convenient time as the WHO are just beginning their investigation.

An experimental coronavirus vaccine was safe and triggered immune responses in all 45 participants in the first human tests, according to an article published Tuesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

“Any way you slice this, it’s good news,” Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in an interview. “The first step is to get the antibodies. How long it lasts is an important question, but as long as you get it [initially], that’s a good first step.”

I might have been  to admit it, but now that I know someone else is a major DDD fan, I'm not :D I can watch DDD for hours when there are marathons. I've seen every episode dozens of times and never grow tired of it. Not a fan or GGG or any of his cooking shows, but GF is outstanding as host of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
Amazing, I understand this entire post.
Fellow "foodie"!

I'm sure we all know the paper is state run, but it is the largest and most mainstream media that is used primarily outside of China. I wouldn't dismiss the information too quickly. But, having said that, Japan claims the test may be false positives. I would think that could have been clarified.
