So presumably they will have to quarantine when they return.

Only a handful of states have a quarantine rule, and even fewer are able to enforce it at all. New York is serious about it, NJ is getting a handle on it, others can mention how their states are doing. However, even in those states, it's only travelers from certain other states that have to quarantine.

But Florida, Texas, California and Arizona have no quarantines for incoming travelers from the US. And both have a very large problem and California in particular has tons of people traveling in and out.

Speaking of which, the states whose citizens traveled to and from South Dakota are, in fact, seeing a rise in CoVid cases, particularly Montana and Wyoming. All three states (SD, MT, WY) had virtually no CoVid cases before July 1. Then the tourists went to SD, then they went home. MT and WY have a large problem.

No quarantines necessary in any of those three states.

Idaho has the worst trend...they're getting tourists from all directions - but they are also traveling, themselves. They had a little pause in the last week of June, but are now apparently going to go exponential (or have already done s0).

Sadly, Montana (one of my favorite states) now has the highest R-naught rate in the nation. WY, ID and ND aren't far behind.

SD isn't doing too badly, probably because Keystone only has 350 people and the area is isolated from the rest of the state. Shopkeepers and restaurant workers in Keystone were wearing masks, as shown on the live feed in the most crowded part of town.

This whole issue of travel is huge. One city near me just hosted a large event that was held outdoors (but with tons of people breathing in each others' faces). Nearly the entire group was from out of town and many from out of state. So...the vectors will be hard to research, there will be no contact tracing and the numbers resulting from that event will not show up as a.blip on this city's/county's CV rates. They want tourism.

I doubt anything has changed since publication of the article at July 15, 2020 / 12:51 PM / CBS/AP

Well I took the GMA link direct from his own Twitter so I know it is authentic because he tweeted the link.

Wow, this is huge. Does that mean that no scientist can use or publish the data? No newspapers? None of us here on WS?

Perhaps we won't be discuss case and death rates after all. At least not for the US.

The two tourists in the article were from NY and were holidaying in Florida so I was asking if they will have to quarantine on their return to Brooklyn, for 14 days. Florida is on the NY quarantine list but I don't know if that applies to returning residents. I mean it should do, to be effective.

That's what it says. You may only access the data with authorization from HHS.

Quick question. I'm trying to update a neighborhood watch post.

Some news station included Dollar Tree on a graphic for nationwide chains moving to required masks for customers. I can't find anything to back that up. Family Dollar owns Dollar Tree.

Anyone seen anything?

Kroger just joined the list.

Almost one-third of Florida children tested are positive for the coronavirus

Florida health officials have identified a troubling trend; approximately 31 percent, or one-third, of children in Florida tested for COVID-19 yield positive results, according to the Sun Sentinel.

State data indicates that out of 54,022 Florida children tested, 31.1 percent have returned positive results on average. This is higher than the statewide positivity rate, which reads in at about 11 percent.

Aside from the staggering figure indicating the transmission of the virus, health experts fear it can cause potential lifelong damage in children. Alina Alonso, the health department director of Palm Beach County, reportedly told county commissioners on Tuesday that the long-term consequences of coronavirus in children are unknown.

Alonso described X-rays that reveal damage caused to human lungs by the coronavirus, even for people without severe symptoms.

"They are seeing there is damage to the lungs in these asymptomatic children. ... We don't know how that is going to manifest a year from now or two years from now," Alonso told reporters. "Is that child going to have chronic pulmonary problems or not?"

White House Strips CDC Of Data Collection Role For COVID-19 Hospitalizations

"Since March, hospitals have reported daily information on the availability of hospital beds, ventilators and personal protective equipment to an established data collection network run by the CDC called the National Healthcare Safety Network or NHSN, which has operated for years.

As of Wednesday, hospitals are being instructed by HHS not to use that system and instead to report to a new site set up by the department using a private contractor called TeleTracking.

The new system was set up by TeleTracking, a private company based in Pennsylvania, which was awarded the $10 million contract in a noncompetitive bid in April. Sen. Patty Murphy, D-Wash., the ranking member of the Senate health committee, wrote a letter to CDC Director Robert Redfield on June 3 asking why TeleTracking was awarded the contract on a noncompetitive basis."

The document that is linked gives hospitals the option to send the data to their state and for the state to submit this. There are four pages at least of data to be submitted so I don't know if they are already submitting all this detail to CDC, it seems to be much more detail required.

DD just told me that her wedding venue for October 3rd in Greenville/Charleston area is charging her $2500 as a rescheduling charge! Is this legal? They have already paid tons of money to them. Called Old Cigar Warehouse.

Hope this helps. The page references both Family Dollar and Dollar Tree.

  1. What is the Company’s face mask policy?
In accordance with guidelines from the CDC, we are requiring all associates, customers and vendors to wear cloth face coverings when inside our stores. The Company is providing face masks to associates as supplies become available.

It might be. DD needs to read her contract.

Kansas governor to delay start of schools until after Labor Day

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly (D) announced Wednesday that schools in the state will not open until after Labor Day.

Kelly made the announcement hours after the state's Board of Education approved a document that offers safety guidelines for opening schools, according to a local affiliate FOX 4.

"The additional three weeks will provide schools time to get masks, thermometers, hand sanitizer and other necessary COVID-19 mitigation supplies,” Kelly said in a news conference at the state Capitol, according to another local affiliate, KMBC.

"I can't in good conscience open schools when Kansas has numerous hot spots, where cases are at an all-time high and continuing to rapidly rise. We can’t risk the lives of our teachers, administrators, custodians, our students and their parents," she said.

Kelly plans to issue an executive order Monday, which will provide more details on the move.

We have a little good news this morning. Contact tracers in Sydney have tracked down Case Zero. This is the Victoria person who took the virus to Sydney. Now there is some hope of containment and suppression of the virus outbreak there.

The person is a transport worker who was travelling through Sydney. In his stop at the pub he was the cause of infection in 34 people.

(No link ... watching morning TV news)

In other news, Victoria police have checked over 85,000 cars who have left Melbourne for other parts of Victoria for 'essential' reasons. Over 500 fines have been issued to people and businesses who have been caught doing the wrong thing. The Victorian Premier is now considering an even tighter lockdown. Things are not yet improving there.

Kohl’s to require customers to wear face coverings beginning July 20

MENOMONEE FALLS — Kohl’s announced on Wednesday, July 15 that beginning Monday, July 20, they will require all customers to wear a face covering while shopping in its stores.

In a news release, Kohl’s said it considers health and safety a top priority — and they have a number of measures in place to prioritize the health and safety of customers and associates.

Customers will see signage at the front of the store to inform them of the face covering policy. Store associates have been trained on the new health and safety measures in place, the news release indicates — and Kohl’s will have associate greeters at the entrance of each store to welcome shoppers and remind them to wear masks.

For those who would prefer not to shop in-store, Kohl’s encourages customers to visit Kohls.com and take advantage of its limited-contact Store Drive Up service, among other convenient shipping options.
