Oh my gosh!
I need to readjust my level of tolerance.
I imagine that this number will continue to climb.
I know a person who is sorta in the "know".
Ok not sorta, he knows stuff. He is retired so able to speak enough to get the point across.
Stressing that this fall and winter will test us all.
Could he be mistaken? Sure.
This is completely against his norm.
Formal high person from NATO.
Also a brigadier General from a military force.
Mods if you need info, I can provide it.
His comment was "think about how you are set up for food, water, power and medical supplies. (Not so different than hurricaine planning)"
"I hope that you are taking steps to prepare yourself for uncertainty."
God Bless our country.
That's it. That's all he said.

I think we all have been thinking the same.
I'll alert my post to the mods.
He is just saying we need to get serious.
Moo

Well, that's freaking me out. Thankfully it doesn't get really cold here. And we are currently massively canning and have a gas stove that works without power. But we don't have a generator. I was admiring vintage wood cook stoves the other day....

I've left my prescription at a Pharmacy that will deliver if you can't pick it up. It's one of their regular services but this is the first time I thought it might be something I could use, just in case we get locked down again. Regional New South Wales, Australia here.
. You just need to phone them before a certain time the day before.
I'm in regional NSW too and have been doing this for a while. Very handy.

I do think the mask issue should come from the top. It has to be unnerving for stores trying to enforce it. Fights, shootings etc etc. Stores have enough on their plate. Keeping themselves safe and their customers.

Yes, from the top indeed, because masks are needed than often than just in stores. Masks need to be worn whenever a human could be within 2 meters. Sometimes this could even be in your own home!

Friends. I have posted the numbers, for the likelihood of us getting, and most importantly, dying from this horrible new disease.
The numbers show that it is very unlikely that you will die from this ugly, nasty disease.
I personally, do not take this disease lightly.
I am nearly obsessed with it. Everywhere I go, everything I do, this hateful disease is on my mind.
Especially, in regards to my employees and customers at our restaurant.
The news media, in my opinion, has not been honest with us.
They are pushing the worst cases in headlines daily
Why? They get people to click on their stories. Clicks equal advertisers paying money.
We really are getting better at learning how to control this virus and stop the death count.
Keep your eye on the number of deaths. Not. The number of cases.
:) wishing you all a safe, sleep.
Kali in crazy California...

Thank you! I needed to hear this tonight, Kali. Got a fever last night, ears feeling achy tonight. Have an appointment to be tested at 10am tomorrow. They tell me I'll get results in 6 to 10 days.

Wishing you a safe peaceful night as well!

For first time, world records 1 million coronavirus cases in 100 hours - Reuters tally

By Gayle Issa

...
(Reuters) - Global coronavirus infections passed 14 million on Friday, according to a Reuters tally, marking the first time there has been a surge of 1 million cases in under 100 hours.

The first case was reported in China in early January and it took three months to reach 1 million cases. It has taken just four days to climb to 14 million cases from 13 million recorded on July 13.
The United States, with more than 3.6 million confirmed cases, is still seeing huge daily jumps in its first wave of COVID-19 infections. The United States reported a daily global record of more than 77,000 new infections on Thursday, while Sweden has reported 77,281 total cases since the pandemic began.

Despite the surging cases, a cultural divide is growing in the country over wearing masks to slow the spread of the virus, a precaution routinely taken in many other nations.

U.S. President Donald Trump and his followers have resisted a full-throated endorsement of masks and have been calling for a return to normal economic activity and reopening schools despite the surging cases.

Other hard-hit countries have “flattened the curve” and are easing lockdowns put in place to slow the spread of the novel virus while others, such as the cities of Barcelona and Melbourne, are implementing a second round of local shutdowns.

Global report: coronavirus infections in India pass 1m mark

Global report: coronavirus infections in India pass 1m mark

...
India has become the third country to record more than 1m coronavirus infections, following the US and Brazil, as it reported 34,956 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the national total to 1,003,832.
Amid evidence that the disease was taking hold in poorer, rural areas less well-served by public healthcare, the latest tally prompted renewed concerns about the country’s ability to cope with rising infections.

The figures have been released after a week in which authorities in India were forced to impose new lockdowns, including fresh restrictions on 128 million people in the state of Bihar, which came into force on Thursday.

Presser this morning ....

NSW Health has 180 people working in their contact tracing area. They have contacted over 10,000 people this week. (so important in finding and suppressing)
Can't assume they have found all cases. People must come forward if they have any symptoms and if they have been to the restaurant, pub, or gym that are showing to be cluster starting sites.

We might be misunderstanding one another. The 8% which I spoke of, was "the state’s self-imposed benchmark of keeping the positivity rate at 8 percent or less before reopening the economy.” (quoted from the o.p.)

How did the state come up with the benchmark of 8% when the WHO benchmark was 5%?

Through consultation with the state's medical centers and experts. Plus, there was a political element to the discussion. Many were involved, including representatives of teachers, and there were lots of webinars and attempts to get input to Sacramento through various occupational groups.

We don't want to shut down completely, and I think there's agreement that right now, 10% positivity is too high, 5% is a bit too aspirational and would wreak more havock on local economies, and 8% is a compromise.

I'd be pretty happy with 8% and dropping. The positivity rate needs to also be dropping to get back to the next stage of reopening - so even counties with less than 5% are on the watch list if the number is going in the wrong direction.

I just don't know what to say anymore.......

I may know exactly how you feel. I know everyone has an opinion, and they feel very strongly about their own opinion and things have become so divisive these days.

I really hate it hurt people's feelings with my opinions. I had a neighbor call me last night and her brother-in-law passed away. Her sister is having a funeral and they expect over 200 people. In Charleston South Carolina. My neighbor was very concerned because she is elderly and had cancer and has been isolating. But her family is making her feel very guilty. She just wants to go to the graveside but not the funeral itself inside with all those people.

She, like me, hates to hurt people's feelings. And sometimes just stating her opinion hurts them and she scared she's going to have a family issue by stating her beliefs.

It is such sad times these days, and I like you, don't know what to say sometimes. And when I do express it, it comes across wrong and perhaps hurts other people's feelings.

A reporter asked Kellyanne Conway if the President intended to send his child back to his private school. Conway answered, "That's a personal decision."

IMO if there is no YES answer, why would the rest of the country be willing to send their children back to school?
Kellyanne Conway Won't Say if Barron Trump Returns to School

If I was your neighbour I would send a card to the brother in law's family (her sister's family), express my deep sorrow at their loss, and say "I wish I could have personally shown my respect at the funeral, but I have particular vulnerabilities to covid and need to isolate".

Then tell people she has addressed the issue in the best way that she can at the moment.

Speaking of Idaho, there is a viral video going around of a female from Washington State who is anti-mask. Washington has a mandatory mask policy, Idaho doesn't. So she does all her shopping across the state line in Idaho, just so she doesn't have to wear a mask. So, you wonder how the numbers keep rising..that's one way..MOO
