I know things are a bit different there - with regard to food - but when we were in lockdown earlier, my friends and I (and presumably others) made a point of gathering ready made meals from our local restaurants and pubs. Put them in the freezer then used them later at will.

It is so important to support good locals. We all want them still there and our communities to be vibrant, when eventually this thing calms down.

I think you are being very smart to not patronise shops who don't support their locals.

That is so great! Our city council converted a stadium into a massive food bank. They packed thousands of free food parcels for anyone who needed them. And delivered them to vulnerable people who couldn't leave the house to pick them up. I was really proud of all those businesses that donated food for the effort.

Something else that really warmed my heart was my local supermarket has a wall where cards, letters and artwork are displayed, thanking the essential workers for their tireless efforts to keep us safe.

White House to hospitals: Bypass CDC, report COVID-19 data directly to HHS
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield says the controversial new process, which calls on hospitals to send capacity and utilization data to HHS, was made with CDC support.

The Trump administration has directed hospitals to stop reporting COVID-19 data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network.

Instead, starting Wednesday, they have been told to send capacity and utilization information – including patient numbers, remdesivir inventory and bed and ventilator usage rates – to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the new HHS Protect system.

On a press call Wednesday, CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield said that the change had been made with the CDC's support.

"We at CDC know that the lifeblood of public health is data," said Redfield, adding that collecting and disseminating data "is our top priority and the reason for the change."

He emphasized: "No one is taking access or data away from the CDC."

Readfield noted that about 1,000 CDC experts will continue to have access to the raw data from hospitals. "This access is the same today as it was yesterday," he said.

Thank you tresir2012 for posting this information!

It has put my mind at ease in an otherwise very stressful situation. The sidelining of Dr. Fauci has been such a terrible move.

In my state, NJ, we have a good state Gov. tracker.

We got so creamed, like NY, and I’m so proud of how we all managed to come together and flatten what no one thought could be flattened.

The virus hit here first, in a big way, and so hard because we didn’t know what we were up against. And we are a major travel thru way. Now, with more knowledge and therapies we are doing so much better at shortening the time needed in the hospitals, and people have really taken this seriously, for the most part. Almost everyone wears a mask. It’s second nature, now. Schools are being very cautious. And I’ve just limited my life... a vacation in my own monastery. The monastic life is not difficult for me but I see how difficult it really is for a lot of people. And we, in this country are used to getting our way. The strife is palpable. And I just have a hard time understanding how people willingly play roulette with this deadly virus. By all accounts, you don’t want this virus, at all.

Thank you all for posting and providing such much needed info and opinions. It calmed me down to read through this thread. And, the fact that the CDC will still have critical information relevant to every decision in life right now really calmed me down!

Leaders who don’t understand or choose to ignore exponential math are even more dangerous than the virus itself. We are just not coming out of this anytime soon I’m afraid.

Support is so important.

We have a national radio station who is gathering messages for all the Melbourne people in lockdown - many who are on their own - and is posting them on their webpage. So that Melburnians know how much we all truly care about what they are going through.

The many different ways people are helping people. It is heartwarming.

I admire Dr Fauci so much.
I was thinking the other day that I would love him here, in Australia. I'm sure any country would be lucky to get him.
Though we do have Dr Norman Swan here. I like the way he tells you the truth, no matter how scary it might sound.
Don't worry I'm not trying to steal your amazing Dr. :) He is your treasure and I'm sure many know it.

I hope he is allowed to continue his work - I saw on CBS this morning how well George Bush spoke of him during the AIDS crisis

From USA Today. COVID: Should I send my kid to school amid coronavirus? Teachers worry

"On Tuesday during the White House event about reopening schools, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said as long as people acted with "good individual responsibility," there's no reason schools shouldn't be able to hold in-person classes.

"We have healthcare workers who don't get infected because they take the right precautions," he said. "They wear facial coverings and practice good personal hygiene."

Nearly 600 US health care workers have died of COVID-19

Well I have faith in both our US and UK governments and do not believe they will do anything to harm their citizens. After all, we put them there. I am glad that your mind is put at rest and I believe this has been unnecessary worry for everyone today, on top of the real worry about the increasing caseload and deaths.

New York Gov. Cuomo Offers Coronavirus Assistance To Atlanta

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is taking up New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on his offer to send a team to conduct testing and contact tracing of people exposed to the coronavirus.

“Anything we can do for you, for the city, we stand ready,” Cuomo said. “So I'll send a team down to Atlanta and they can work with your people and whatever we know and whatever we can share we will do."

We are doomed - the nurses I know wear full PPE so who’s paying for our teachers PPE? Will it be medical grade ? Because if not - we are doomed - and by the way the b-ballers at the park were at it again tonight and there was rain and lightening too - so they really are invincible I guess

Can I ask...what you mean? I'm so very concerned for all of us - but especially people in Florida. Do you mean you think it's inevitable that you get it? You are usually optimistic and you care so much about others - but I hope you personally stay safe.

“My family is an example of what's happening across this country,” Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said. “We had an asymptomatic child in our home for eight days before we knew that that child was asymptomatic and, by that time, my husband and I had contracted COVID. Unnecessarily I would imagine, because we would have taken precautions to protect ourselves.”

A beach house sounds like heaven.

I haven't ventured into a restaurant since early March. :(
I wish I could invite you all to join me. The breeze off the ocean this evening is heavenly.

Yes I believe we are in real trouble - I don’t think there is any plan in place to equip our teachers - many I personally know are buying masks and asking their parents to make the kids start wearing masks so when it’s time to start the 7 hour school day they will be used to it - which implies to me kids haven’t been wearing masks because it’s not a statewide mandate - I work with lawyers who go to lunch every day - our tenants let their kids come and hang out in the offices because they are bored - no masks - while I personally don’t go anywhere except work and the grocery - they are out and about every day and bringing their exposures back to the offices and shared bathrooms kitchen copy machine etc. and Florida is wide open - although I think they aren’t allowing bars to sell drinks after the numbers revealed their patrons were spreading Covid because again- no masks and no social distancing was observed - and the basketball players just playing every night like there’s nothing wrong - they go home, then come to work and every person they played with could be a carrier and so the spread continues - until this stops yes - I feel we are doomed - quite the turnaround from the cruiser who “rolled the dice” march 13 eh?
And thank you @10ofRods I'm trying but it’s everyone around me that I can’t control

My faith is shaken by the fact both countries have some of the worlds most horrific coronavirus stats. Really, who'd have thunk it?! Both leaders remained blasé while other countries were acting fast and slamming their doors. Donald "we're doin' great" Trump and Boris "wash your hands" Johnson made many early mistakes in their addresses to the public, and continue to issue confusing or conflicting guidelines.

I'd like to have faith in the governments, I really would, but on this issue I definitely have more faith in the medical experts.
