Every American did not receive stimulus money and those that did receive it will be taxed on it when they file next year. $1,200 barely pays my monthly mortgage but does pay my health insurance for a month. The $1,200 for me offset the rise in grocery prices.

From what I understand the stimulus is a refundable tax credit. Jmo

If you are talking about the one-time payment of $1200 back in March, that was probably gone in many households by end of April, just for rent (JMO). The supplemental $600 unemployment will also be gone by the end of the month. More than 25 million Americans are set to lose the $600 unemployment boost next week

I didn’t get the supplement. My firm received the PP loan, paid our salary from March 18 and forced us back to work on June 15.

Long story. It's tempting to think the states stole the money, but they actually needed more money to do this right. I am sure they are doing the best with what they have, though I'm also sure we'll hear about malfeasance, because we always do.

It starts with the long delay our leadership had in responding to the whole thing, and many missteps along the way. Now we're trying to keep up with the demand as more and more people continue to get sick, but labs like Quest Diagnostics only have so much capacity, and sometimes have to ship them out. It would take another massive input of cash to make it better, I imagine.

In the meantime, people have to put off going back to work while they wait. Or they don't put it off, because they can't And we get more infections.

My county received 2 million in CARES funds. Not one penny was spent on testing, with a positivity rate of 12%, 51k population and testing 10 to 15 people per day. We did have 3 large employers test after large outbreaks, jacked our positivity rate to 21%.

I met with our leaders, attended BOS meetings, begged, pleaded, show slides, projections, nope not one dime. I have the CARES documents send by the federal and state government sent to my county, testing is clearly on the menu of uses for the money.

They voted to give half to small business to protect tax base and purchased PPE, commodes, and fancy hydrogen peroxide hand held sprayers for the County Administration Building.

Did we buy those sprayers for our schools? NOPE

Did we set aside money to purchase computers for home schooling? NOPE

Virginia has the third lowest rating in the US for testing. Our positivity rate is going up, even with limited testing.

I'm very disappointed and feel my county failed our citizens.

But that's the catch, many of the third world countries are doing much better at tracking, tracing, testing than we are - in addition to other measures as they are familiar with the drill MOO.

The US stance MOO was just to keep numbers within hospital capacity in the beginning... expecting drugs and vaccine to come. They didn't try to put out embers, and now the fire is outta control in many areas and health depts etc are too stretched to do the needed 3 T's. In addition, the timing for us all on the same page has passed as there is not a cohesive effort within the states.

I think @margarita25 has made links to such many times here in the threads about how some countries considered "third world" have done better than the US. Not all... but many/significant number.

Sadly you are correct: many third world countries are in much better shape than the mighty United States of America---- heart breaking and maddening.

My daughter lives in Florida and had to take a pay cut. I told her to apply for unemployment insurance and she laughed at me and said that people who are totally out of work haven’t even received it.

Very little support, again, not everyone received stimulus money.

My daughter did not receive a stimulus because she is a college masters student and considered a dependent on our tax returns, even though she is 23 and had income. Her boyfriend, same age, not in college, received $1,200.

My other daughter‘s boyfriend made less money last year than the year the government used as a guideline for payment, so he did not receive a stimulus because that year “he made more than $75,000”.

Oh my gosh. I am so sorry. I wish more of us (including me) were this engaged in how things are run in our hometowns. Maybe we could actually change something.

On the morning after John Lewis' death, this is too painful to hear. Not a rebuke to you at all, just a statement. We are a great nation when we are also honest about our problems. We will solve our problems. We will overcome this. We are accustomed to a certain way of life, and we're not going to ditch it to live in poverty and disease. JMO.

Yep. Let's think last of the fact your child could become seriously ill or die.

Next is my opinion. Wake up, People. I'm tired of this "better for their development stuff." Home schooled children do as well, if not better, academically as kids who attend regular schools. Try the National Spelling Bee, as an example. Try this website:

That’s good to know. Is it a tax credit? My accountant didn’t mention that when he gave us estimated tax forms for 2020.

This shows we did 102k less test than the week before and only 77 labs reported, 134 labs the week before.

I notice the data was up until week 27 which included July 4th so maybe the holiday affected the reporting that week.

Less testing keeps Virginia in the 6 to 7percent positivity range. We look great in national statistics.
