A gas station I regularly visit had some hand- lettered signs on their doors: " No mask, no entry" Good for them, I was thinking! I made note that all customers were wearing one.

Then, to my horror and embarrassment, I realized I had forgotten to put my mask on before entering the store!

I put my items on a nearby shelf, ran out to my car and went back in with mask securely attached to my face to finish my transaction.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but gheeeez, how dumb! Imo
I have had to turn around to get mine because, I forgot it a few times!
Duh!

Interesting to see how that works - how hard is it to just drive across city limits? For a while Phoenix wanted the power to do things like that, but Governor said it would lead to an unmanageable patchwork of regulations across the state.

It isn't hard at all. But our mayor's are allowed to add more restrictions beyond the governors office. Jmo

No one could convince me that riding a subway, especially in NYC, is a medium risk even with masks, distancing, etc.

My adult son's physicians (internist & a specialist) both told him that he would likely be fine if he wears a mask, washes hands, socially distances, etc.

But BOTH physicians did tell him: Do Not Ride NYC Subways!

Subways Sparkle, But Does Cleaning Decrease COVID-19 Risk?

Cleaning a train car at a maintenance yard overnight — or even several times during the day, as New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority does — might not help the transit employee or passenger stuck in close quarters with a coughing person.

Wearing a face mask "will protect us the most, having that control among ourselves," Gershon said. "I think the rest of it is really more the illusion, and that's not a small thing because it plays with our psyches."

At the famous waterfalls on the U.S.-Canadian border, Canadian ferries are limited to just six passengers per boat, out of a 700 person capacity. But on the U.S. side, the ferries are operating at 50% capacity, according to Maid of the Mist boat tours.

Maid of the Mist's website said it was following the guidance of New York State public health officials. The boats contain markers to keep visitors spaced out, and face coverings are compulsory, among other safety changes, it said.

Mory DiMaurizio, general manager and vice president of Canada’s Hornblower Niagara Cruises, said the limits placed on its business by the Ontario provincial government were “disappointing” and that it was “frustrating” to see the American boats relatively full.

“However we’ve made lemonade out of lemons,” DiMaurizio said, referring to a new VIP cruise the company has created (from the Canadian side) - a near-empty boat, plus a meal and funicular ride included with the ticket. Health precautions include temperature checks and mandatory masks. The popularity of the C$69.95 ($52.00) per person cruise has “actually surprised us,” DiMaurizio said.

Social distancing Canadians eye new sight at Niagara Falls: crowds of Americans

They don't look very socially distanced - 'spaced out' - do they? Unless social distancing means standing right next to each other ... with all of that heavy NF mist floating around them.

Ducey kept closures in place, only removing "end date," so bars and gyms are essentially closed for good. Reaction should be interesting, to say the least.

It’s official :p
Cuomo Provides Additional Guidance on Bar Mandate; Chips Don't Cut It

Governor Cuomo and the State Liquor Authority provided additional guidance today on the new law that mandates food be served with an alcoholic drink. According to Cuomo, the food must be “substantial”. The State Liquor Authority made clear that foods such as salads, wings, a dessert, sandwiches, hot dogs or full meals would work, but a bag of chips or pretzels is not enough.

New York Gov. Cuomo says state has suspended 27 liquor licenses for violations of social distancing rules

"I'm sorry it's come to this, but it's a dangerous situation, and I've said it many, many times," Cuomo said. "We never opened bars. This was a violation by them from the beginning."

"We are quite serious about it," he said, adding that the state has filed 410 charges against New York eating and drinking establishments.

Unlike other states, New York does not have separate liquor licenses for bars and restaurants.

"We never authorized bar operations," he said. "By the words themselves, outdoor dining is not a bar operation. The word is dining. You don't dine when you go to a restaurant to drink. That is drinking, and it would've been outside drinking that we authorized."

Being outside generally seems to lower risk of transmission because even if infected persons releases their virus particles, all that outside air quickly dilutes it. Sun also seems to kill the virus. Doesn't mean it can't happen though.

just googled " does sunlight kill covid"? and the answer is that there is no evidence
that sunlight kills this virus---as far as being outside lowering the risk of
transmission of Covid---to some extent it would lower the risk, but if people
are crowded together without masks or social distancing, the risk increases--crowded
beaches are a good example of increased risk of transmission of the virus

There is a product made by Zoono. It has been tested against the COVID-19 surrogate, feline coronavirus (which is the virus many are using for a lot of testing), and is said to be 99.9% effective in killing the virus AND the sanitisation lasts for about 30 days - although a researcher said he would probably spray surfaces with it more than every 30 days.

I was watching a video about it the other night, they were spraying large commercial areas with it ... and it made me think of longer lasting surface protection for trains, planes, and buses.

In a prior release, the company stated the product proved better than 99.99 per cent effective against COVID-19. The product was in fact tested against the COVID-19 surrogate known as the Feline Coronavirus, not the COVID-19 virus itself. That said - the Feline Coronavirus is accepted globally as a clinical substitute for COVID-19, so the test results still stand.

The company has also tested its hand sanitiser against the Feline Coronavirus surrogate, and it too has been found to be more than 99.99 per cent effective. This means both the sanitiser and the Z-71 Microbe Shield may be considered clinically effective against COVID-19.

I know from your previous posts that you work from home and enjoyed a lot of social interraction at lunchtime and evenings out and about. I hope you're finding other ways to keep this going somehow. I work from home and know it can feel isolating at times.

I've been lucky that my places are able to stay open (considered to be restaurants.) I know many professional musicians and the continued bar closure is devastating for them. Offering no date or metrics for reopening is going force these places to make some tough decisions.

First the mask wearing, now this....it makes me very worried that the coming reality might be even worse than I/we've imagined. IMO
I'm not sure. I am hoping he finally "got woke"!
His head wasn't in the game. Maybe now he is realizing he can't bench sit if he wants the economy to recover.
(*Tried to keep politicking out there.)

Victorian Premier shares plea from Melbourne hospital worker

Victorian Premier shares plea from Melbourne hospital worker

Imogen Dewey

...
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has shared an urgent reminder about stopping the spread of coronavirus from a Melbourne healthcare worker on the front line.

The Premier took to Twitter last night to share the video, alongside a simple request: "If you only watch one thing today, please make it this message from Abbey – a Clinical Nurse Specialist at @TheRMH ED."

Abbey, clad in hospital scrubs and a protective mask and glasses, had a clear message for the Victorian community.

"If we, the frontline healthcare workers are doing all we can to keep you safe and alive, the very least you as a community can do for us is stay home, wear a mask, wash your hands and follow the advice and restrictions of the government," she said.

"Your temporary but greatly appreciated sacrifice means both you and my colleagues and I will eventually see the light at the end of this very long road – and we collectively may see the end of the pandemic.

"So please, for the last time: Stay home. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Socially distance yourselves. And follow the restrictions.

"But most importantly, take care of one another."
