I know why the government put out that message: the surgeon general actually said masks were ineffective-- IMO the CDC and WHO has fallen down on the job- hugely. Giving out this type of erroneous information set the stage for what we are seeing now- a lot of distrustful people who say, well, you told us not to wear masks, now you say to wear them- you people can't be trusted to give us correct information.

Yeah, I understand some people will think that way. I believe it has a lot to do with their problem solving abilities, and the way they process new information. Probably it's also a reflection on their own experience with learning.

Some people are able to see how the information is constantly unfolding and being adjusted according to new data, or new findings. Other people almost seem as though they expect the information to be constant, and that somebody has all the answers, but is hiding the facts, or deliberately feeding the wrong information. Changes are difficult for them to process.

I wonder if this tendency will be taken into consideration when the Pandemic Protocol books are written. I wonder too, if this will be seen as a failure in our education system. Are students getting enough opportunity to do long-term biology experiments where they record their findings, make predictions, and test their conclusions over time?

This would have to assume no vaccine by Christmas I guess, which is depressing me.

It's a good idea. The stuff could still be used if we do have the vaccine but the mince pies could be stale. :)

Ha! OT, but you got me thinking of Christmas food delights, with your comment on mince pies. I grew up in Quebec, and we always had tortiere at midnight after mass. On Christmas Day we often would celebrate with friends who had an English tradition of having Yorkshire pudding with gravy. I always loved that! Better start stocking up on supplies now, great idea!

Dr Fauci did a great FB live with Mark Zuckerberg a week or so ago on vaccine development. He stated we had existing platforms to develop a vaccine. He also referenced the massive focus by scientist. Its like everybody dropped existing projects and focused 24/7 on a vaccine.

I don't know how to link FB here, but its easy to find and very interesting interview.

@Tadpole12 Thank you!!!! Its' a very worthy product, imo. I was able to better understand how vaccines work.

ETA....If we have a media thread it would be good to post. Happy for your technical assistance :)

I was actually thinking of ways to visit with friends and family members when it's too cold outdoors to sit around the deck or yard while staying at least 6 feet apart. I'm considering getting a 10 x 20 back yard shed then put a dividing wall in the center with plexiglass or clear plastic sheeting starting at 4 feet from the floor. Separate door on each 10 x 10 room. Electric heater or wood stove on each side. After the pandemic is over we can store mowers, generator and large tools on one side and I can make a she shed on the other :D At least this is how I'll present it to Hubby.

Coronavirus: No deaths and 40 new cases confirmed in Ireland

HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE confirmed that no further people have died with Covid-19 in Ireland.

The National Public Health Emergency Team has also said that 40 new cases have been reported in the past day.

This brings to 25,929 the total number of confirmed cases in the Republic and 1,764 total deaths related to the disease.

The acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, said in a statement: “Today’s cases are spread across a range of different settings and age groups.

“75% of cases are under 45 years of age, with a median age of 33 years. At least half of today’s cases were known close contacts of other confirmed cases.”

Glynn added that it “remains vital” for anyone concerned they have been in contact with a Covid-19 case or anyone experiencing symptoms to isolate and come forward for testing “without delay”.

:)very creative
I have nobody Id want to visit with that bad lol.

One grown kid is semilocal and One out of state that I’d risk indoors with maskS (and other common sense stuff we all know is important) to see them infrequently. ( Granddogs maybe) so yah also sort of thankful we don’t have a big social life or any close non household family.

If you want to compare two differently sized populations, you must use per capita or percentage data. Otherwise, the small states will always look as if they have few problems.

Some publications do this automatically for you (NYTimes).

If you want to predict where a state is going, use the R-naught number. After head-whipping increases in CoVid rates, FL and GA have managed to slow it down:

Rt COVID-19

Just barely - but as you can see, CA slipped over into the rising category again.

HECK no, our students aren't getting any of that in most high schools. US competency in science is poor - dropping each year. And, it is rumored, that's yet another reason why we will be excluded from world travel indefinitely. We can't get a handle on CoVid because so many people are uneducated and have no background in science - or the use of even simple data.

The nations that EU put on their "okay" list are the ones with the highest competency in science - and therefore, the lowest CoVid rates. It is an irony that France and Sweden are actually ranked lower than the US in student science competency though:

U.S. academic achievement lags that of many other countries

And, I do believe France is going to see a second wave of CoVId and from what I'm reading, many French are very angry and feel their government misled them into believing "all is well into the future." Hopefully they'll keep that wave to a minimum.

Even in college, students aren't taking a lot of science and can easily evade learning how to interpret longterm (or even short term) data.

After all the planning and expense, they can't get baseball together, how are they going to deal with kids in school?

4 more Marlins test positive; total at 17

Four more members of the Miami Marlins have tested positive for the coronavirus after the latest round of testing.

The Marlins have now had 17 people test positive in the past five days. On Monday, the total of confirmed cases stood at 11 players and two coaches.

The Marlins' outbreak continued to disrupt MLB's schedule Tuesday, the sixth day of the pandemic-delayed season, with the Marlins' home game against Baltimore postponed.

Monday's game between the Marlins and Orioles was also called off, as were the New York Yankees' games Monday and Tuesday at Philadelphia, where New York would have been in the same clubhouse Miami used over the weekend.

Coronavirus updates: Florida sets record for deaths in a day; the virus is killing a Texan every 6 minutes, 16 seconds

Florida set a one-day record for reported deaths with 186; the virus has now killed more than 6,000 Floridians.

In Tennessee, Dr. Deborah Birx urged Gov. Bill Lee to shut down bars and limit indoor restaurant dining to help curb an explosion of infections among young people. Lee said no.

Several states on Monday set seven-day records for virus deaths; others set records for new cases. Tennessee set records for both.

Dr. Immanuel is the one who believes that having sex with demons in your dreams causes physical illness.

She's now part of our nation's CoronaVirus information nexus.

And I'm having to block people I thought were halfway sane on FB (distant relatives) because they are sharing it, praising it and extolling her drivel (no masks needed, HCQ is the cure, etc).

As to HCQ, the randomized studies are coming in - and one after another, say it is no better than doing nothing. Here is a pre-print on just one of the studies:

A Cluster-Randomized Trial of Hydroxychloroquine as Prevention of Covid-19 Transmission and Disease
