Peter Navarro spars with CNN host, says government 'sitting on millions of doses' of hydroxychloroquine

Navarro responded: “So, look, my mission here is to help the president save lives and create jobs and this issue of hydroxychloroquine, what the president was talking about, I thought he did it in a very sophisticated way yesterday because he pointed out that it’s only efficacious in early treatment.

“What I would suggest, don’t believe me, don’t believe Dr. [National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease Director Anthony] Fauci, we have different points of view, bring on somebody like William O’Neill, the doctor who did the Detroit hospital study.”

“I have spoken to William O’Neill,” Berman responded.

Video
Navarro then went on to list the names of other doctors, including Dr. Harvey Risch, an epidemiology professor at Yale School of Public Health.

“It’s not fair to me John,” Navarro said.

“It is,” Berman said.

He then acknowledged that Trump “did quote Dr. O’Neill” and “Dr. Risch at Yale,” adding that he also “talked about Stella Immanuel.”

“He talked about this doctor who promotes demon seed,” Berman continued.

Navarro interrupted saying, “Do me a favor, John. I have absolutely nothing to say about that. I know nothing about her and if you want to use me as a prop to kind of play her clips…”

“I don’t,” Berman responded.

“Because I have got stuff to talk about to you, if I may,” Navarro said.

Berman then noted that Navarro “talks about hydroxychloroquine a lot.”

“And I stand by it,” Navarro said. “I’m sitting on millions of doses of it, and you know what, how many Americans died yesterday, John?”

“1,200,” Berman responded.

“Right,” Navarro said. “If the Ford study is right, half of those people would still be alive.”

According to a study published by Henry Ford Health System earlier this month, treatment with hydroxychloroquine cut the death rate significantly in sick patients hospitalized with the novel coronavirus without heart-related side-effects.The research is preliminary, and other studies have found different results.

Berman said, “The Ford study, we have reported on on this broadcast and just so people know, that while the study did find that it had some effect on people who took it early, the study had limitations that you will acknowledge.”

“Of course,” Navarro said in response.

“Number one, it wasn’t randomized. It was not double blind. The people who took hydroxychloroquine were assigned and chosen by the researchers,” Berman said. “Also, they were twice as likely to receive steroids, which we know have been proven in clinical trials to help.”

“That was controlled in the study,” Navarro interjected.

“There are limitations there,” Berman stressed.

Video
“We had a really good dialogue about it,” Navarro said. “You and I aren’t going to settle this.”

He then encouraged Berman to have Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn on the program.

“You’re making it sound like there are two sides to this right now,” Berman told Navarro.

“There are two sides to this,” Navarro said. “There are two gigantic sides to this.”

Berman then pointed to comments from Fauci on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday.

“I go along with the FDA. The overwhelming, prevailing clinical trials that have looked at the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine have indicated that it is not effective in coronavirus disease,” Fauci said.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, Trump ally who refused to wear mask, tests positive for coronavirus

The disturbing test result came just a day after Gohmert defied federal recommendations and appeared without a mask at a House Judiciary Committee hearing with Attorney General Bill Barr.

A Justice Department spokesperson said Barr would be tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Gohmert was in close contact with Barr and other colleagues at the hearing Tuesday and made no effort to observe social distancing measures.

Dr Stella Immanuel call patients to speak afta Facebook ban hydroxychloroquine video WHO no support - BBC News Pidgin

This is a BBC article about Dr. Stella Emmanuel. I could only find the article in Pidgin English but it can be followed. Her tweets featured in the article are in English with hashtag #hcqworks
I don't find Dr. Immanuel to be credible, no disrespect to her. I went to her Facebook and listened to some of her sermons where she talks about gyn troubles being caused by dream sex with demons. She also talks about high government officials being "AIs" and reptilian people. And accuses doctors of using alien DNA in medicine. And claims that covid will disappear when we all join in prayer and repent our sins.

I can't link her Facebook here, but it is easy to find.

JetBlue Deploys Ultraviolet Cleaning Robot at JFK Airport in Fight Against Coronavirus

The Honeywell UV Cabin System is roughly the size of an aircraft beverage cart and has UV-C light arms that extend over the top of seats and sweep the cabin to treat aircraft surfaces.

JetBlue will be using the system while continuing with other cleaning methods. In clinical studies, ultraviolet light has been found to be capable of significantly reducing certain viruses and bacteria, including SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, when properly used at certain levels.

I don't understand why Peter Navarro is even weighing in on this. He has no medical background whatsoever. He's an economist and a trade and manufacturing advisor. He is not remotely qualified to speak to matters of covid, medicine, or medical treatment.

RSBM. From FDA:

Q. Did the new information about a potential drug interaction between remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine sulfate (HCQ) and chloroquine phosphate (CQ) contribute to the revocation of the EUA?

A. FDA’s action to revoke the EUA authorizing the use of hydroxychloroquine sulfate (HCQ) and chloroquine phosphate (CQ) to treat certain hospitalized patients with COVID-19 was taken based on FDA’s ongoing assessment of available scientific information associated with the authorized emergency use of these products. Revocation of an EUA may occur when the statutory criteria for authorization are no longer met. The potential drug interaction between remdesivir and HCQ/CQ is not the basis for the revocation of the EUA.

UBM.

Such a waste of resources when those researchers could be directing their work to finding real treatments. All this fuss about HCQ has really derailed the search for a cure.

Most patients listen to their doctors as they are the ones treating and prescribing.

Here's a joke for you.

Q. What do you call the person who graduates from medical school at the bottom of the class?
A. Doctor

I don’t think the issue with the video is the drug itself, but the claim that we don’t need to do anything else to prevent covid since it will just cure everyone.

When i first saw the video.... i just kept saying "who ARE these doctors". Why, oh why are they "so out there" with the HCQ... and why were they brought to the White House to "discuss medical stuff for you and me????

Many of those in the video do not practice medicine anymore.

Immanuel received her medical license as recently as November, according to the Washington Post, and believes in a conspiracy theory that world leaders are secretly lizards who are dressed up in human suits.

Dr. James Todaro may have a degree in medicine, but he’s pretty far from the frontlines of the pandemic right now. In fact, he hasn’t seen a patient since 2018, according to his own biographies online. What’s Mr. Todaro doing these days? He’s promoting bitcoin.

Dr. Simone Gold is a doctor and lawyer in Los Angeles who publicly takes credit as the founder of “America’s Frontline Doctors. Gold, who appears to be a co-organizer of the Beverly Hills Conservative Club, has taken to her Twitter account to complain about the “censorship” of her organization.

Dr. Erickson is an urgent care doctor in Bakersfield, California who has been touting many of the same ideas about the pandemic that President Trump has been spewing for the past few months..During another Fox News appearance in May, things took a weird turn when Erickson started spouting conspiracies involving George Soros trying to censor his message on herd immunity, according to the Washington Examiner.

During the video that’s now offline, Hamilton said that he’s a pediatrician who’s been in private practice in Santa Monica, California for 36 years. In the America’s Frontline Doctors video, he spoke mostly about how he believed that children tolerated infections well, the mortality rate for children was low, and he said they rarely passed the infection on to adults. He also stated that he believed schools could open up with proper safety measures in place.

Who Are 'America's Frontline Doctors', the Pro-Trump, Pro-Hydroxychloroquine Weirdos Banned From Social Media?

Social media companies are not in the business of medical advice, nor should they be. In the US, social media has taken the stance that health advice come from the CDC and other legit health agencies.

Besides, doctors in the US are free to prescribe hydroxy as they personally see fit. Nothing is stopping them. This particular group of doctors in the video have their drawers in a twist because the medical profession at large does not agree with handing out hydroxy like tic-tacs. Its understandable that social media firms do not want their platforms used as a stage for medical infighting.

I also looked at the bios of this "Frontline" group and could not find a single bit of research any of them has done on covid or hydroxy.

Exactly. No medical research at all. Many of them are so heavily involved with large political groups. The CDC and the DOJ are NOT supposed to be political arms to anyone....

Interstitial cystitis is a disease of the walls of the bladder and many find their symptoms exacerbated by vitamin C or any acid. It may be caused by a virus initially (it isn't well understood).

What is Interstitial Cystitis (IC)? - Interstitial Cystitis Association

A close family member suffers from it, it was hell on wheels getting it diagnosed.

Quite a people have reactions to straight Vitamin C as a supplement (often GI symptoms).
hmmm.. thanks. Def going to discuss with my gastro doc today. I get the liposomal vitamin C..so will ask.

She is asking her patients to give testimony. Her religious views don't interest me but her patient results do, especially as she is in a current hotspot (Houston ).

One thing I do not understand really is that with this arsenal of strong drugs HXC, Remdesivir, Dexamethasone, why have they not already got a proven path for medicating? Are the doctors all around the world just chucking drugs at the patients to see what happens?

You asked why Navarro was interviewed, in another post. He seems to be an expert on China and has been elected previously in local government in California, another current hotspot. He has been outspoken against Dr. Fauci also so I guess those are the reasons he was on. He is currently Trade advisor I believe, so selling drugs and vaccines worldwide would come under that.

In the quote I posted he does explain..

So that is why he was on there.

Sepsis can kill in hours. I once nursed a patient who walked into hospital with a really high fever that she had had for three hours before she sought help. She thought it was flu but then was unable to pass urine because she had renal failure, and one by one and very quickly her organs shut down and she died five hours after she was admitted. It was never establish why she got the sepsis.

yeah... I feel sepsis is so scary. My husband had endocarditis and sepsis twice.... long stints in nthe hospital.

There seems to be quite a few people who are making major policy decisions about the way the United States government runs, and responds to the pandemic who are less qualified than my dog to make these decisions. Just saying.

NOTHING will change until some of them start dying. Even then, I doubt it will make much difference, but at least justice will be served.
I don’t agree with this

Sisolak debuted the changes during a press conference in Carson City, where he said he planned to adopt a more granular approach to containing the virus — starting with next week’s rollout of a new “long-term mitigation strategy” that will examine ZIP code-level data on COVID-19 cases.

So cordoning off areas by ZIP Code - kind of like the Warsaw Ghetto? What could possibly go wrong with that plan?

Just my opinion (since about the beginning) but the only way we get back to normal is through some kind of mechanism that decouples lifestyle from a burden on health care. Health insurance plans penalize smokers and employer-subsidized plans all seem to include "wellness" provisions. Auto insurers penalize or deny coverage to drunk drivers. Insurers need Covid Plans. Full coverage for a large premium, discounts for people who can prove that they don't leave home, but ultimately a system that moves the risk to the individual. Eventually it would get like any other type of specialized care where every city would contain a branch of Covid Treatment Center's of America.

My wife heard that schools are opening for in-person learning on August 17, because enough parents made a stink. Combine that with loss of $600/wk checks and I think we going to see a pivot away from wall-to-wall coverage of the rarest and most extreme cases, and back the original boilerplate that the virus causes few, if any, symptoms in most people. There should perhaps be more emphasis and study put into the actual number of cases: Reported coronavirus cases vastly underestimate the true number of infections, U.S. government data published Tuesday suggest, echoing results from a smaller study last month. I understand that it's difficult, if not impossible, for public officials to talk about deaths in any manner that sounds clinical or disrespectful, but it's probably important that people understand the true risks.

Coronavirus: Vietnam battles COVID-19 strain not seen in country before

Every province and city in Vietnam is at risk of a new wave of COVID-19, its prime minister has warned, as territories across Asia suffer a spike in new infections.

Vietnam had been coronavirus-free for months before the recent outbreak in Da Nang, a city in the centre of the country.

Cases have now also been reported in other cities, including Ho Chi Minh city and the capital Hanoi.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that this coronavirus strain had not been seen in the country before, and some local media reported that the new strain was more contagious than previous ones.

Vietnamese scientists say the latest strain had also been previously detected in Bangladesh, Britain and Ireland.

Despite sharing a border with China, Vietnam had only recorded 446 cases in the initial stages of its COVID-19 outbreak. It rapidly shut its borders, imposed centralised quarantines and started an energetic contact tracking system.

It has acted similarly quickly in this outbreak. All flights in and out of Da Nang have been suspended and 80,000 mainly local tourists are being evacuated. Social distancing rules are being imposed and non-essential services are being told to close

Hmmm.

Patients giving "testimony" is not science. Science is objective, controlled studies to prove/disprove hypotheses. None of the "America's Frontline Doctors" crew has done any research to back their claims, nor do they quote any peer reviewed science to support their claims. On top of that, they are an arm of the Tea Party Patriots Foundation, a political group, not a medical one.
