That’s what I said ... there is no ban on using this drug. It’s going through the normal processes any potential treatments go through. That it’s being politicized is bizarre. It’s one of a number of treatments being trialed around the world.

The doctor was not just talking about her own cases, she was standing right there saying IT IS THE CURE for everyone. It’s the reason she went to DC, and it’s the hill she’s willing to die on. We don’t need masks, we don’t need to shut schools, we just need this drug. It’s the cure! That’s what she said. She won’t produce evidence because she said medical trials are unethical. If what she says is true, it would be evident in the medical trials that are being conducted.

Just let it go through the normal processes and if it works it works, and if it doesn’t it doesn’t. This whole “argument” about it leaves me scratching my head. jmo

yes, my opinion since day one. Just shut up about it. Patient <---> Doctor. They decide. I have the right to decline it. Let others have the right to take it. Regardless of listening to me on why I won't take it. Their choice. Their outcome.

How about this? How about if a recently retired chemist and physician agrees with DeWine? Are they incapable of understanding the pandemic and science with all of us here? I tend to agree with them and DeWine. Do you think that DeWine isn't receiving recommendations from the Ohio Health Department and many physicians? DeWine is my governor and I'm proud of how he's handled COVID in my state. Please stop badmouthing him. Your opinion of him is not a fact. JMO.

Huh?

I have no idea who DeWine is.MOO

My comment was in general as to politics vs. science and some folks here are highlighting those governors for the rest of us. MOO

Ohio is certainly doing a lot better than Florida. I’ve lived in Ohio, and right now I truly miss living there, especially as the cases here rise astronomically. Ohio governor DeWine is paying attention, and has not only implemented a statewide mask mandate, but has been more prudent than many other governors. DeWine has been steady in his approach and has done what should be done despite extreme voices. Florida governor DeSantis could learn from DeWine’s public health approach.

Florida reports 253 new coronavirus deaths in third straight daily record

Florida on Thursday reported 253 new coronavirus fatalities, the highest in one daily report and the third record day in a row. Statewide, 6,585 residents are now dead after contracting the virus.

The state health department also reported new 9,956 infections for a total of 461,379 to date.

Wednesday’s newly reported deaths had been a record at 216, and before that, Tuesday’s report at 186.

Florida has one of the worst outbreaks anywhere in the nation. The state also recorded its worst week from Sunday to Sunday, with 872 reported resident deaths, a weekly record.

Nearly 3.6 million people have been tested in Florida, with 52,472 more tests reported Thursday — about 2,000 below the daily July average — compared with the previous day. Over 2.5 million tests have been administered since May 31.

Some researchers say Florida’s death toll could double by Labor Day unless people devote themselves to social distancing and facial coverings.
And our governor continues the narrative that we are stabilizing... I still hear those echos in my head of how “Florida is the great success story”... which has proven to be so wrong! As new daily case counts counts continue around 10,000 and deaths keep rising, it doesn’t appear to be stabilizing to me and many others in our state. He still hasn’t issued a statewide mask mandate.

Now tests sites are closing due to the storm, which is understandable, but I’m afraid that will be the new excuse in all the numbers.

Brazil's first lady tests positive for Covid-19

Brazil’s first lady Michelle Bolsonaro has tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

The first lady “is in good health and will follow all established protocols."

Michelle Bolsonaro was last seen in public on Wednesday afternoon when she attended an official event in Brasilia with her husband.

President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for Covid-19 on July 7. He tested negative more than two weeks later on Saturday.

EU revises list of safe travel countries, US remains on list of restricted nations

The European Union has revised the list of safe travel countries to 11 non-member states after dropping Algeria from the list.

The EU will gradually lift the travel restrictions at the external borders for residents of Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, and Uruguay..

The United States remains on the list of restricted nations, and China is still pending approval based on reciprocity.

He's just trying to justify his lackadaisical way
of allowing everything to try and go back to normal.
Hope I'm wrong but I predict unless DeSantis
and Trump catch the virus, we won't see much
attention to curbing it.
Trump is truly at risk considering his age and
lack of mask wearing.

Massachusetts teachers' union pushing for all schools to reopen remotely this fall
More at link
As Massachusetts school districts continue to form reopening plans for the 2020-2021 school year, educators are pushing to return to the classroom remotely.

Massachusetts Teachers Association held a virtual meeting Wednesday night, during which union leaders and members spoke out against a return to in-person learning this September.

“Mounting evidence is showing there is no safe way to start with a hybrid model,” MTA President Merrie Najimy said. MTA is “taking the position that we start learning from home, and then doing the work with families and starting to redesign curriculum.”

Coronavirus 'bubbling up' in up to 30 areas, Boris Johnson warns

Coronavirus is "bubbling up" in up to 30 areas across the UK, Boris Johnson has warned.

The prime minister said levels of COVID-19 are "going down" in Leicester - the first city subject to a local lockdown - but Britons have to be wary of a "really damaging second wave".

"It's absolutely vital as a country we continue to keep our focus and our discipline and that we don't delude ourselves that somehow we're out of the woods or that this is all over because it isn't all over," he warned.

The places with the highest case rates per 100,000 people according to NHS Digital's latest data are Blackburn with Darwen (85.3), Leicester (57.7), Oldham (53.1), Bradford (44.9) and Trafford (39.3).

Behind them are Calderdale (32.4), Rochdale (30.9) and Sandwell (27.5) - which has set up its own contact-tracing system in a bid to contain outbreaks and out of frustration with the one run by Whitehall.

Following news that the self-isolation period is being extended from seven to 10 days, Mr Johnson denied it would leave people confused.

All four of the UK nations' chief medical officers had approved the rule change because of "strengthened" evidence there is a "real possibility" anyone with the virus is infectious for longer than previously thought.

Those who have come into close contact with someone who has tested positive will still have to stay at home for the same amount of time as before - 14 days.

It aligns the UK closer with some other countries' policies and those of the World Health Organisation, which says people should be in isolation for 10 days and then an additional three once they stop showing symptoms.

Earlier, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he was "worried" about another spike of coronavirus infections, telling Sky News there is a "second wave starting to roll across Europe".

17 Florida Doctors Contract Coronavirus After Attending Private Party — Newsweek

“As novel coronavirus cases in Florida continue to surge, surpassing 451,000, nearly 20 health workers from the anesthesiology department at the University of Florida Health (UF Health) have contracted the virus after reportedly attending a private party.”

(Would this be considered a “Covid” party?)

“In the statement to Newsweek, UF Health said: "UF Health educates our faculty, staff and students on best practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 on and off-duty. Our goal is to minimize the spread of the illness on our campus and in our community, recognizing that it's impossible to prevent all cases given the way pandemics naturally work.”

I’m thinking they need to review their “best practices” - maybe use flash cards?

Yes it is impossible to prevent all cases, but to deliberately court the pandemic?

I guess they decided the risk wasn’t that great. The problem with that is what about the people they will infect who didn’t choose to go to a party? Other health care workers. Patients who they saw before they were diagnosed. Grocery store clerks. Relatives.

Calabrese said doctors were hopeful as recently as five days before his death that Cain would make a recovery. However, because Cain previously beat liver cancer, he was considered at high-risk for complications related to COVID-19.

It remained unclear Thursday how Cain contracted a coronavirus infection. The radio host, who traveled frequently, attended President Donald Trump’s rally on June 20 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I'm just so sad.

And he attended the rally without a mask. It’s very sad. It was preventable. He was misled.

Dear God. Indiana changed up their dashboard and I almost had a heart attack. The first number where new positives used to be is tests now. I'll edit in a jiffy when the adrenaline rush slows down.

Okay:

New positive cases 970
New deaths 13 from 6/14 to 7/29
6.9% 7 day positivity rate
11, 644 new tests

That 11,644 was where the 970 normally was. I literally shrieked.

So, where will Mr. Gates children be attending? Oh, right, he doesn't have ANY school age children!

I read so many articles that promote school opening, by people who do NOT have school age children. Guess what? Again, what medical or educational degrees or experience does Bill Gates has that gives him ANY credibility on this subject? That would be NONE.

The Fox article slants Gates' statements to "sound like trump". But more source information, his interview on CNBC, shows his much stronger distinction between young (below 13) and older. There have been some very decent models in Europe showing slow progressive re-entry for young children.

“As you get up to age, like, 13 and higher, then you’ll have to look at your locale to decide what you’ll do with high schools,” he said. “And if they’re not in, then you have to put massive effort into trying to get there to be continued learning online.”

Basically, I do believe that this is the way to start anyway. Young children a few weeks earlier than middle, and then figure out high school as you see what happens with the younger.
