ADHS - Data Dashboard

Total deaths for June were just released, which show 1343 more deaths in June 2020 (total of 6265), versus June 2019. 803 Covid deaths were reported during this time. It will take a while for the Covid numbers to become complete, as these numbers are still being processed, but clearly the increase in deaths is way higher than those labeled as Covid. This should provide a counter argument to those who insist Covid deaths are being over reported.

I really wish there was a fast, easy, reliable and cheap way to test to see who has been infected. It's impossible to get an accurate death rate otherwise. The spread that we see in baseball has all of my drinking buddies convinced that we've all had it.

it is a travesty that in the United States we do not, after six months, have
reliable testing accuracy with quick turnaround time

While that woman was beyond disgusting and potentially dangerous, I would not recommend recording or in any way provoking some stranger: these days that could be very dangerous: that loony woman could have pulled out a gun.

The woman did not really provoke. She did just silently record. She was even so very humble about what happened to her. Her friends posted it a while back and it went viral.. The woman who did the yelling to the Pier 1 folks and then spit on Heather "removed herself from social media". She lives/lived in my town.

i think the act itself of recording a hostile stranger is in and of itself provocative--
especially in this particular time when emotions are running high-- there are
some very nasty people out there----

I agree with you. I tend to mind my own business. Jmo.

When a vaccine is finally available - or possibly vaccines - one concern I have is distribution and how it is done. In the 2009 H1N1 influenza epidemic, mild by today’s standards, the strain involved had not been identified far enough in advance to include it the then-available influenza vaccine. The vaccine was rushed into production, but distribution was an issue in many US states, including the New England state where I lived at that time. The CDC distributed batches to each state, but once it reached a state, people who wanted the vaccine were at the mercy of the state.

The state I lived in kept control of all of the doses. My asthma doctor could not get any for his patients. The state chose to ignore CDC guidelines as far as pre-existing conditions were concerned. Instead of allowing the vulnerable to be vaccinated, they hoarded the doses. Members of the state legislature and their families got the vaccination, as well as some first responders and politically connected individuals. The distribution could be followed through the CDC website, and people knew that the state received the doses, but not where they went. Several months later, when the epidemic had passed, the state suddenly announced that anyone who wanted a vaccine could get one. By that time, there were no takers, and thousands of hoarded, never-distributed, expiring doses were disposed of.

In order to obtain a vaccine, I drove several hundred miles to another state that had orderly distribution of the vaccine. I took a short vacation from my job to do it, and stayed in a hotel near the clinic. It was a lot of time and money to obtain something that was mandated to be free and available to people in all states. To avoid what happened in 2009, multiple distribution channels will be needed.

What a dismal story. I hope the medical experts make this story more apparent-- to hopefully make hiding and hoarding covid data, PPP, therapeutics and vaccine information more transparent.

While I see your point, I think the US has devolved to a place where too many people don't want to help other people who are in a bad situation, for fear of recrimination.

The store clerk had experienced 15 minutes of uncontrolled aggressive anger already. No-one was helping her out until this woman started obviously recording.

When I lived there, I heard a woman screaming for help at 3am ... it woke me up. I rushed out and saw a woman being raped. All I did was yell out to the guy 'hey leave her alone' and went and grabbed the woman - the rapist ran off - and I brought the woman into my apartment, called the police. Not one other person in the ten or so apartments in the immediate vicinity even cracked their door to see what was going on. Even my ex-husband (who was awake at the time and heard the commotion) lingered behind me when I went to help the woman. Quite frankly, I was shocked that no-one else helped.

While I wouldn't confront or film anyone not wearing a mask, because I'm a wimp and avoid confrontation at all cost, I have to say that the woman went into Pier 1 because she wanted to or needed something there (or she wanted to check out the clearance, as Pier 1 stores are closing), and she had as much right to go into that store as the coughing jerk. And she masked up and was taking precautions.

And MY attitude is that those who are so unwilling to wear masks that they are defensive enough to resort to violence when confronted are the ones who should stay home, so that they don't have to see the people who do, and they don't have to get mad when they are asked to wear a mask.

Her main reason for recording was because the woman was harassing the Pier 1 workers bigtime, and threatening them. She was trying to get some refund without having the proper receipts or something. She would not let them come out from behind the counter. It wasn't really a covid issue she was recording.

Great post. I do believe this was the atmosphere at that store. The woman was being extremely aggressive. People use phones to record all kinds of behavior, right? And it is often critical at times. Black Lives Matter comes to mind. Nothing would have happened there, if there were not people recording.....

We have posted many articles regarding under reporting in Florida.

Bullying should not be tolerated .. even criminal bullying. And the bullies will keep doing it unless we do something within our means about it.

I often don't even have my phone with me. If I did, by the time I had found it, turned the video on and made sure it was recording, the incident would be over.

A state of disaster has been declared in Victoria for the next six weeks, bringing with it the nation’s toughest rules since the pandemic began.

Metropolitan Melbourne is now under strict stage four restrictions which include: a curfew between 8PM and 5AM, residents limited to a 5KM radius for shopping and exercise, students return to remote learning from Wednesday, funerals limited to 10 people and weddings banned.

I always have to convert for US measurements. A 5KM radius is a 3.1 mile radius.

Part of the problem, that seems to get worse, is also the complete lack of personal responsibility. There are so many of stories that confirm the adage "no good deed goes unpunished." Unfortunately too many requests for "help" are just the first act in a larger manipulative scheme.

We have a friend who is planning on taking in a cousin who is about to be released from prison because she "wants to be supportive." I told her to tell him "I want to be supportive - I will support your decision to seek treatment and find work and get your life together. Once you are established, we can talk about you renting a room from me." I then asked her how many seconds it would take him to tell her where she could stick that "support." So she will learn the hard way and I can try to resist saying "I told you so."

Wow. That’s not far - 3.1 miles. Would need at least 15-20 miles to get to a grocery store.

The lockdown allows travel to the nearest grocery store, if there is not one within the limit.
Though there should be those services available within that limit, as it is only the city of Melbourne that is under the stage four lockdown.
The rest of the state is under stage three lockdown.

Melbourne:
CURFEW: You must stay home from 8pm to 5am, beginning tonight. The only reason to leave home outside of these hours is for work, medical reasons or care giving.
ESSENTIAL SHOPPING: Shopping limited to one person per household per day. You must stay within five kilometres of your home when doing essential shopping (unless the closest supermarket is more than 5km from your home)
RECREATION: Recreational activity no longer allowed
EXERCISE: Only one hour of exercise permitted per day, no further than five kilometres from home. Exercise groups limited to two people, regardless of whether they’re members of the same household
CHILDCARE + KINDER: From 11.59pm on Wednesday only children of essential workers in ‘defined industries’ and vulnerable children may attend. Defined industries will be announced tomorrow
WEDDINGS: Not permitted from 11.59pm Wednesday.

More details about both lockdowns listed in the link
STAGE 4 LOCKDOWN: New COVID-19 restrictions begin in Melbourne tonight
