I finally got my test results today: Negative

It took 17 days to get this answer.
While I am happy to learn I am negative, 17 days is unacceptable. My husband got his test results in 14 days. Also too long. He took the test 1 day before me at the same location. It was done through a CVS drive-up pharmacy window. I noted they use Quest Diagnostics. I am in SoCal.

Victoria enters state of disaster

Victoria enters state of disaster

Sky News Australia

A state of disaster has been declared in Victoria for the next six weeks, bringing with it the nation’s toughest rules since the pandemic began.

Metropolitan Melbourne is now under strict stage four restrictions which include: a curfew between 8PM and 5AM, residents limited to a 5KM radius for shopping and exercise, students return to remote learning from Wednesday, funerals limited to 10 people and weddings banned.

Presumably everyone in Metro Melbourne has a supermarket within 5 km. (3 miles approx. My nearest supermarket is 7 miles away for example.

Glad to hear your result but agree the wait was unacceptable.

I looked on the CVS and Walgreens websites - it said patient assisted testing. Did you do your own nasal swab?

Glad you are negative but as you stated the turnaround time is outrageous

Yes. I believe It’s a much smaller swab You don’t have to poke your own brain

slowpoke - Finally! 17 days is ridiculous. I'm still waiting on my results, which I assume after 15 days are also negative. I too did the test at a CVS drive-up pharmacy window. I'm in South Carolina and I think this CVS uses Lab Corp.

ETA: slowpoke - did you sign up for the CVS My Chart to get your results? I did and check there 4 or 5 times a day, to no avail.

Yes. The way it worked is (at CVS, at least) they hand you a bag kit. Then they guide you through the steps: Take the swab out, stick it up the nostril up to a certain point (she told me how far up, when to stop), swab around inside then hold for 15 seconds in there. Repeat with other nostril, same swab. Break off the swab stick midpoint and insert swab into vial. Put vial in bag, close bag (ziploc type). Put bag in designated collection box. Done. Drive off!

Quite quick and easy, the test itself. A bit uncomfortable since the swab goes way up inside. But not really painful.

@Rose in SC : Yes, MyChart. I thought I was supposed to get a notification, but never did. So I just kept checking multiple times a day, as you are. Frustrating, isn’t it.

I had a test done on Friday at 12:37pm, up each nostril for 10 seconds and a throat swab. Received results at 11:40pm, less than 12 hours later. Thankfully negative. I set up my test through my primary doctor and it was done at a drive through mobil unit run by the medical group my primary doc is through. I am in the western suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The lockdown allows travel to the nearest grocery store, if there is not one within the limit.
Though there should be those services available within that limit, as it is only the city of Melbourne that is under the stage four lockdown.
The rest of the state is under stage three lockdown.

Melbourne:
CURFEW: You must stay home from 8pm to 5am, beginning tonight. The only reason to leave home outside of these hours is for work, medical reasons or care giving.
ESSENTIAL SHOPPING: Shopping limited to one person per household per day. You must stay within five kilometres of your home when doing essential shopping (unless the closest supermarket is more than 5km from your home)
RECREATION: Recreational activity no longer allowed
EXERCISE: Only one hour of exercise permitted per day, no further than five kilometres from home. Exercise groups limited to two people, regardless of whether they’re members of the same household
CHILDCARE + KINDER: From 11.59pm on Wednesday only children of essential workers in ‘defined industries’ and vulnerable children may attend. Defined industries will be announced tomorrow
WEDDINGS: Not permitted from 11.59pm Wednesday.

More details about both lockdowns listed in the link
STAGE 4 LOCKDOWN: New COVID-19 restrictions begin in Melbourne tonight

This is amazing. So well thought-out. In the U.S. this would be perceived as Draconian.

It is, however, so common sense, given the situation.

I await the list of essential businesses (my own pet peeve is the lack of thought that's gone into that).

D.C. pastor tests positive for coronavirus, as health officials struggle to stop its spread
The pastor of a Catholic church on Capitol Hill who urged people not to “cower in fear” of the novel coronavirus has contracted covid-19, the disease the virus causes, prompting D.C. health officials to tell about 250 staff and parishioners to self-quarantine for two weeks.

Monsignor Charles Pope of Holy Comforter St. Cyprian Catholic Church on East Capitol Street was admitted to the hospital on July 27 after experiencing a high fever. He tested positive for the coronavirus after a rapid diagnostic test that afternoon.

On Friday, the D.C. health department issued a letter saying that “additional individuals have been identified as having been exposed to the virus.” Parishioners who participated in Communion at the church — the Catholic ritual of sharing wafers and wine or grape juice — between July 25 and July 27 were told to stay home for 14 days and monitor themselves for symptoms.

City health officials did not respond to questions Sunday about whether they had contacted parishioners and told them to quarantine before Friday, or whether other members of the church have tested positive for the coronavirus.

How lucky he is to live someplace with the rapid diagnostic tests.

Surely...SURELY...they weren't sharing wafers or communion cups, right?

The Monsignor is 56 years old. He is known for his voice and choir direction.

It will be interesting to see how this looks in two weeks. So far humans have not demonstrated an ability to abide for extended periods.

Bullying should not be tolerated .. even criminal bullying. And the bullies will keep doing it unless we do something within our means about it.

i would not get in the way of an aggressive angry bully---that person could well
have a weapon

Yeah, but these aren't ordinary humans. These are Aussies. They are rock stars.

Anyone for a cruise?

Thirty-six crew members have tested positive for COVID-19 onboard Hurtigruten's MS Roald Amundsen, currently docked in Tromsø, Norway, according to a statement provided by line spokesperson Øystein Knoph.

But the virus might not have been contained onboard. Potentially impacted passengers from two separate voyages had already disembarked a cruise on July 24 and the last cruise on Friday, leaving ample time for passengers to begin their voyages home and potentially spread the virus.
