So basically, your bosses aren't wearing them either?
Nope just when meeting with clients who are - after all it’s like the flu eh?
Sigh

Sigh

Largo nurse who became paralyzed after battling COVID-19 remains hospitalized in Boston

Stories like this one, just make me shiver. This is NOT "flu". It randomly hits people, some have almost no symptoms, others, end up like this nurse.

I do think that there are variations of this novel coronavirus. And people who end up in the hospital, have the most severe variation. Then, health care workers get exposed, over and over to the most severe form of the virus. Just my own theory.

I was at Walmart a few days ago. They have signs up saying masks are required to shop there. Two young ladies walked in right before me and they were not wearing masks. The door greeter just greeted them and said nothing about the fact they weren't wearing masks. So I asked him: ''Are those women going to be allowed to shop here without masks?'' He told me they can put up signs saying masks are required but they can't not allow people to shop there if they don't wear them because there is no state or city mandate that people have to wear them and there is no law saying they must be worn. I just don't get it. People don't shop without shoes or shirts and there is no law saying they must be worn but people comply.

Enough already.

Either all states/cities need to mandate masks be worn in public or a law needs to be passed that makes it an offense not to wear a mask in public.

Many stores have a sign saying masks are required to shop there. These stores have masks available as you enter the store. Some stores have them for free (Lowe's) and others sell them for less than $1 as you walk in (Menards). But the greeter at Walmart told me they don't do that because they don't have any in stock. Come on now!! If other stores can get them, so can Walmart. Cheapskates.

I'm all for the policy that Southwest Airlines has------you have to wear a mask on their flights or you can't fly on their aircraft. No exceptions. Have asthma? Sorry---if you can't wear a mask, you can't fly with them.

ETA: If they can pass laws that forbid you from smoking in stores because it's hazardous to the health of others, they sure as heck can pass laws that you can't be in stores without a mask because it's hazardous to the health of others. What are we waiting for?

Virginia has a mask mandate,

Its unenforceable. The governor finally allowed the HD to follow up on complaints on restaurants and bars only.

We have a restaurant that is not complaint, HD revoked the food permit. Restaurant refused to close and is operating. The owners attorney said, can't site and close a restaurant over a mandate that not in the regulations and no law to back it up.

Yup, the VA General Assembly meets next week and it NOT even on the agency !!!!

Governors are on thr fence with the mask. Most say wear a mask, but do not provide the legal tools for HD or LE to enforce.

Why does the public NOT realize, mandates are worthless, it takes LAWS to make people do anything.

Its like saying don't drive over 65mph. but having NO law for speeding. LE pulls you over for driving 90 mph and says....hey, we really WISH you would only drive 65 mph. Have a nice day.

Why are folks not calling Governors and their legislators and demanding legislation to wear mask. We've argued over mask since day one !!! Why is no one calling out congress on no mask law, they've been in session till this week?

If governors want masks. Call and emergency session and pass a law. We elected these folks, pay them, they need to step up to the plate and put some action behind those words.

The media's covered the mask problems nationwide NOT once have I heard any news reporter say.... Hey, call your elected officials and pass a law. They are smart and know the government process. I'm mad at the media for not stepping up to educate folks for the only real fix for this problem.

Shaking my head..,,

Welcome to my world - Florida - and we are in court fighting about the executive order forcing schools to open for F2F classes - they will mediate next week but one side says it’s too dangerous (Teachers) and the other side (governor) saying open up everything’s fine kids are not affected yadayada - sadly we are doing Wills for teachers at a special rate (same for first responders nurses etc) what a world we are living in now
JMO

Sadly this is where I figured Georgia was heading. Just a month or so behind Florida's stupidity. :(

The problem in this country is lack of leadership- plain and simple--- and mixed messages. Early on people were told not only not to wear masks, but that masks were ineffective (that was from the surgeon general's mouth): i won't say what i think of him-- suffice it is to say that early message has resulted in what we are seeing now- people just being defiant-- there is also the issue of people not being very smart: they really do not understand what a pandemic really is---they clearly do not understand how the virus spreads- the contagion aspect.

The real problem ...NO law equals, no enforcement. Mandates are unenforceable, even VA State Attorney General can't find a way to close the non complaint restaurants and bars.

Officials can "talk" all they want about wearing a mask, That's why we have laws, without them it would be a free for all.

The fix...
Congress or States can enact a law. Haven't seen this happen in any state and congress is radio silence on any laws.

Parents indulging their children who grow up with a sense of entitlement and a profound level of self-centeredness ; we've known this for the past twenty years but we just shrugged: but now, these children of entitlement are endangering us all-----

I think its more a lack of discipline from parents from an early age. Kids need to "fear" consequences, like adults fear being arrested. Affecting all, the rich, poor, male, female and all walks of life.

I did what my mom and dad said, cause I feared the consequences. It started with having to sit in a chair as punishment, up to be grounded or having the car taken away, as a teenager.

This has been going on in schools for years. Kids feel like they can talk back to the teacher, not do homework and still pass. A lot of parents won't back the teacher, teaching the child to resist rules from an early age.
They grow to adults who feel everyone should let them off the hook cause their parents did.

Funny (not funny) that the rules don't apply to the lawyers. One would think they should be smarter, considering they are people that are usually well-versed in law and the enforcement of such, and should understand that rules and etiquette are there for a reason.

I realise that rules and recommendations are not law. But still. There are rules and etiquette to follow in court and other places that they attend. Do they consider themselves above this lowly life-saving mask rule/recommendation? And what about workplace OH&S ... do they consider themselves above that, too?

Just to add: If this is a 'business' choice, I would think they would want to exhibit to their clients that they know their stuff and follow rules and recommendations. Give their clients that kind of confidence in them.

Great analogy :).

Lawyers would never think of showing up to court in shorts and a t-shirt. No law against it, but they know the judge would give them a dressing down.

Illinois has now made it punishable by fines. I'll be interested to see if that has changed anything in the rural stores next week when I shop. It has not changed at the local convenient stores.

I've been watching Illinois, to see if anyone challenges the fines in court.

Not understanding how some areas are issuing fines without a law to back it up. Kinda scary to think a government could just start fining people for any reason.

Masks are just a PR stunt by Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, CVS, Walgreens. Sad.

Shoppers who refuse to wear a face mask to visit Walmart will still be served as the company seeks to protect its staff members from violence, according to a CNN report.
Home Depot, Lowe's, CVS, and Walgreens have also said they'll serve customers without masks, CNN reported.
Walmart won't enforce its rules on wearing masks because it fears staff could be attacked by shoppers angry at being challenged

I am now thoroughly convinced our society is crazy. Ready for this. SHOES ARE NOT REQUIRED LEGALLY. Guess we can all ignore all signs and do what the H### we want.
State Health Department codes do not regulate customer clothing–including footwear.

Want proof? Just search for any state’s health code and you can see for yourself. Hint: they say nothing about it.

It's sad that people won't comply and Walmart won't enforce their policy. I went into Walmart the other day and saw a couple of people not wearing masks and it actually startled me because I've been so used to everyone wearing masks there. I don't understand the people that don't wear masks and I was talking to my mom the other day, she is 70 and went to get a hair cut at a small town Iowa salon and the stylist was not wearing a mask and my mom won't wear a mask either. It makes me sad that something as simple as wearing a mask and people just do not care.

So true. I looked it up when VA governor gave the example of shirt and shoes in a restaurant. Found the same site.

I can't be believe folks didn't challenge this. But times were different back then. We seemed to question less in those days.

Fauci, as well as the surgeon general, and others, early on were advising against the public wearing masks.

I don't think it's a PR stunt, I think they are doing this to keep their employees out of harm's way.

Some places just don't require masks. It is required on public transport only where I live. Doctor's surgeries and hairdressing salons have asked patients and customers to wear them. It is probably different all over the states and the world too. It is not one size fits all. If I am visiting somewhere that requires a mask for service, then I wear a mask.

ETA some places dont require clothes and shoes. Swimming pools and saunas for example. :-)

The use of woodwind instruments in groups - including many parents' favourite, the recorder - would also be put on hold, robbing bands and orchestras of flutes, saxophones and clarinets, but not brass instruments.

What on earth is the reasoning behind banning woodwinds but keeping brass? They, too, are wind instruments, and have spit valves, which the typical kid lets go all over the floor.

Trump tries to push for a coronavirus stimulus deal — after Congress has left town

Not sure if anything has already been posted on this.

The impasse in Washington over aid is more complicated than Trump portrayed it Friday.

The GOP bill did not include any additional money for state and local government aid. It also would send direct payments of up to $1,200 to Americans, with $500 for every dependent of any age.

The proposal had $100 billion in new funding for second Paycheck Protection Program loans to particularly hard-hit small businesses.

Trump has fought Democratic proposals to put $25 billion into the U.S. Postal Service and send $3.6 billion to states to promote election security and mail-in voting. He has opposed state efforts to promote casting ballots by mail to make voting safer during the pandemic.

In the days since, Democrats and Republicans have come nowhere near a relief agreement. Both sides have accused the other of being intractable in the talks. Democrats have said they will not come back to the table until Republicans offer to double the cost of their roughly $1 trillion aid plan.

Even so, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said negotiators came to a framework of agreement around both direct payments and small business aid, two of the policies Trump brought up on Friday.

Much more detail at link

Plus, if even 80% of the shoppers are wearing masks you're still cutting down on potential transmission. Jmo
