That's not what you asked about. Is there a reason you think guns belong in this conversation about masks and CoVid protests?
It is not what I asked. But guns have been waved around in covoid protests, havent they?

They all have a sad story. If they are truly in the greatest need, they will be at the top of the list. Having a sad story published in MSM is not going to show that their need is greater than others.
If they have family to stay with (many of them do) and are relatively safe, they will need to wait their turn.

In just 4 days, my SIL hastily packed up their whole apartment (my DD had already come home), made arrangements for their two cats to be housed with a loving family, made arrangements to work remotely, grabbed the last non-charter flight out of NZ, and spent 28 hours flying and waiting at various airports to make it back home over a usual 6 hour trip. I am glad that he made those huge efforts.
Countries are still responsible for the administration needs, safety and welfare of their overseas citizens though, especially more so in an emergency like the pandemic. That's what Embassies and consulates are for. Hopefully these guys can get home safely.

ETA I do find it strange that film stars are allowed in and are trusted to quarantine themselves at their own property but ordinary citizens could have to wait months to return due to quarantine hotel restrictions. Just seems like double standards IMO.

A 53-year-old man accused of breaching quarantine directions and sparking a COVID-19 scare at a Perth pub is set to become the first person in the country to be fitted with a tracking ankle bracelet.

Police Minister Michelle Roberts ..... said work was being done to progress a direction under the Emergency Management Act to have the man fitted with an ankle bracelet for the remainder of his time in quarantine.

"It's something that we contemplated as a Government earlier in the year, we put the legislation through in April," she said.
"These are GPS ankle bracelets. We purchased 200 of them for this exact purpose and, as I understand it, the state emergency coordinator is progressing a direction so we can do just that.

"We're not about putting ankle bracelets on people that don't need them or having additional requirements where they're not required.
"It will be assessed on a case by case basis [and] this person has proven themselves to be someone that can't be trusted, and that's why this action will be taken."

Just found this article which mentions a rescue plan could be in the works. One suggestion in the article from the government is for Australian citizens to start a 🤬🤬🤬.

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...ed-aussies-from-overseas-20200827-p55ptr.html

" "Every night, I worry that the stress of all this might end in real tragedy," said one figure, who asked not to be named. "There are so many genuine cases of real hardship and we are trying our best but the policy means we can't do everything we should be doing."

They all expressed anger that their concerns about the policy had not been met with a proper response from Canberra. Some also said they were concerned for consular staff in overseas missions who had been inundated with requests for help from desperate Australians and were struggling with the workload and emotional nature of some individual circumstances.

Some officials stressed that only a fraction of their caseloads were people who had the chance to return to Australia when the government advised them to in mid-March but ignored the recommendation.

There is rising concern that Australia's embassies are expending valuable political capital in repeatedly asking foreign governments to extend the visas of stranded Australians. The rescue plan is being worked on with this in mind.

"At some point, a country is going to put their foot down and say no. Then what happens?" said another representative. "

Britain reported its biggest daily increase in coronavirus cases since June 12 on Thursday.

The government said 1522 people received a laboratory-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result on Thursday, up from 1048 on Wednesday, and announced a tightening of restrictions on some overseas travel.

Britain has suffered Europe's highest death toll from the disease, due largely to a failure to control its spread in the early stages of the pandemic.

UK coronavirus cases up by 1,108 on Saturday

"The Office for National Statistics (ONS), which surveys a sample of households in England for current infections, estimates that 1 in 1,900 people in England had coronavirus in the week ending 20 August. The figure for the previous week was 1 in 2,200.

Where are the UK's coronavirus hotspots?
There are several local hotspots in the UK which have seen a spike in cases since the nationwide lockdown ended.

Public Health England produce a weekly watchlist of areas of concern, based on an assessment of incidence rates, and other indicators such as trends in testing, healthcare activity and deaths.

Stoke-on-Trent is the latest area to be added to the list, but restrictions already in place in parts of Greater Manchester, Lancashire and West Yorkshire have been eased.

In Scotland, bars, cafes and restaurants in Aberdeen have been allowed to reopen again for the first time in three weeks after a local lockdown was partially lifted on Monday.

Decline in daily deaths continues
While the number of new confirmed cases of coronavirus has been rising again recently, government-announced deaths have continued to fall since a peak in mid-April.

On Saturday, the government reported 12 further deaths in England. No new deaths were reported in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales.

Earlier this month, the government's death toll in England was reduced by 5,340 following a review of the way coronavirus deaths are counted. "

Here's a link to all Europe coronavirus data. Regarding cases and deaths per 100k, the UK is not number one but has had the highest total deaths of all but four nations make up the UK totals.

Soooo,,,what happens if you won’t get within six or eight feet of him without wearing a mask yourself? What happens if you refuse to serve him dinner on a plate without putting on disinfectant sprayed gloves? What happens if you refuse to sleep in the same bed,,,,share a bathroom pick up and wash his dirty clothes etc, Actually they say up here
( Canada) that golf is pretty safe as the players are usually distanced, but that it’s the clubhouse or restaurant afterwards that can be a problem. My DH is pretty good I have to admit,,,,little thanks to me but when he saw his younger brother freaking out and going “mega careful” he caught on and decided that I wasn’t to be ignored. Still as careful as he is when we go out somewhere, I have caught him out on our road getting closer and closer to one neighbour or another while chatting,,,,no mask,,,,he forgets because he’s rather hard of hearing. When that happens I’m like “ don’t come near me for two weeks” and blow him a goodnight kiss from a distance ( without the actual blowing) . Hes getting there!

I feel for your husband. I'm very hard of hearing. If my husband treated me badly due to my hearing loss, we would be history.

Covid-19 cases confirmed on Greek island flight

All passengers who were on a flight to Wales from a Greek island have been told to self-isolate after some on board tested positive for coronavirus.

Health officials say seven people from three different parties on Tui flight 6215 from Zante to Cardiff on Tuesday have tested positive for Covid-19.

Public Health Wales (PHW) is now contacting the rest of the passengers.

It comes as a group of people from Plymouth tested positive for the virus after returning from Zante on Monday.

"Cardiff and Vale test, trace, protect and Public Health Wales have identified at least seven confirmed cases of Covid-19 from three different parties who were infectious on Tui flight 6215 from Zante to Cardiff on 25 August," said Giri Shankar of PHW.

"As a result, we are advising that all passengers on this flight are considered close contacts and must self-isolate."

This was 6 days ago so they will have been spreading it during that time.

@Tillicum the link above about social distancing also has a useful example regarding quarantining.
Examples show 10 days from getting sick or 14 days if exposure but no symptoms.

From the Plymouth link above -

"Up to 30 young people in Plymouth could be infected with coronavirus having returned from holiday in Greece, local health officials say.

The city's public health team said the group, aged 18 and 19, returned from the island of Zante last week and so far 11 have tested positive.

Many of them had no, or "very minor", symptoms of the virus, they added."

It goes on to say the group went out to several bars in Plymouth when they got back before they knew. Oh oh.

Doctors Diary is discussing fake Coronavirus news.

The fake news about schools that's misleading parents

One thing that jumped out at me was the fake news about doctors being paid to put Covid on the death certificate, because it has been mentioned on here.

"In an attempt to understand why people are falling for the conspiracy theories, my colleague, consultant anaesthetist Fozia Hayat, spoke to one father of three, Arshid Siddique, who told her he disbelieved a lot of what he had been told about Covid-19. He accepted that Covid-19 existed, but didn't believe people had died from it.

"They've committed suicide and Covid-19 has been written on the death certificates," he said. "Doctors are being paid to put Covid-19 down for anyone who dies in the hospital."

This is a myth that Fozia and I have heard many times.

Arshid said the video of a woman warning that children could be quarantined by the state and not allowed home had been sent to his wife, and that they believed her, so would not be sending their children back to school. The speaker, whom he described as "a very well-spoken lady", says she is a tabeeba, an Urdu word for doctor, and uses the title "doctor" in English, though her website describes her as "a qualified practitioner of prophetic medicine". She clearly doesn't have a degree in medical science and isn't a doctor in the usual sense of the word."

More at link.

It's frightening to think how many people they might have spread it to in almost a week.

I've not heard of any other country that isn't repatrioting its citizens. Space in hotels is irrelevant, these are Australian citizens. The government exists for them, that is their job to get them home. Telling them to set up GoFundMe accounts just doesn't cut it. They need to bring home their citizens. The U.S. used navy hospital ships for potential COVID cases - even though not used after all. Australia needs to find other options if hotels are full, or let their citizens quarantine at home. Hope they resolve this quickly. I can't imagine the U.S. or Canada turning away its citizens who are trying to repatriate. Even China is allowing repatriation of its citizens and green card holders.

"Doctors are being paid to put Covid-19 down for anyone who dies in the hospital."

This is such a powerful example of how people who believe in conspiracy theories are so out of touch with reality in general. The idea that anyone could pay hundreds of thousands of doctors to routinely lie on death certificates is mind-boggling to me, not to mention the question of why anyone would bother to do it...

Canada is warning potential travellers that if they leave now, they will be responsible for finding their own way back, there will be no flights organized for them, and likely very limited consular services.

Do you have a link for this? I am interested in how Canada is working this out for its citizens. Even though there are no flights organized to repatriate Canadians at this time, I think Canada is allowing flights into the country, so citizens have options and can get back into Canada. They can quarantine in their own homes or with relatives or friends, or find their own quarantine housing. They are not being kept out because of lack of space to quarantine, at least that is my understanding. We were told that we could attend my nephew's funeral in early August if we quarantined for two weeks. We could have driven across the border from the U.S. for this family emergency, which is allowable under Canadian-U.S. border agreement.

They are also expecting foreign countries to extend visas, which may not happen, as why should foreign countries be responsible for them, just because a country hasn't enough quarantine resources of it's own?

I just got a call from a friend to turn on C-Span 2 to watch Deborah McKenzie, author of covid-19 on a television program After Words. Did anybody watch it?
