My young adult daughter just got home from the store and during her standing in a short line a college aged man removed his mask to sneeze!

Tuition refund?
In Virginia several colleges required students to sign an agreement to follow and abide by Health Department regulations and guidance. They made it an honor code violation and several schools have suspended students. There will NOT be a refund with VA schools, and a mark on their permanent record.

The only problem is whether or not we can trust data from Russia. I don’t trust jack squat from Russia.
Tested in the UK.

Ah, that will make a difference. I don’t believe squat from the Putin regime. Tow that line or be poisoned if you are a scientist.

SALINAS, Calif. - A school district in California has provided a hot spot to the family of two students, whose picture of them sitting outside a Taco Bell doing their homework went viral.

According to CNN, the girls were using the restaurant's free WiFi to do their homework.

The picture was tweeted out by Monterey County Supervisor Luis Alejo, who captioned the photo by saying, "We must do better & solve this digital divide once & for all for all California students."

Richard Gebin, public relations officer for the Salinas City Elementary School District, said in a statement to E.W. Scripps, that once the district was notified of the social media post, they got into contact with the student's family to provide them with a hotspot.

A spokesperson for Taco Bell Corp. said in a statement to E.W. Scripps that the "photo of two young girls outside of a Salinas, CA Taco Bell is a tough reminder of basic inequalities facing our communities."

Calif. school district provides hotspot to students seen outside Taco Bell doing homework

So, the school district has had several months of Covid-19 to develop a "plan". To serve children who don't have access to high speed internet, to provide equal access education.

And it sounds like they really had no plan at all. I worry about this young generation of "Covid Kids". The effects of the educational disruption could have significant ramifications for decades.

Okay- i am going to go shallow for a minute here--- thinking of all the things we can no longer enjoy- one of those things is shopping- I love clothes-- i love looking at them, touching them, trying them on and buying them. My favorite store is going out of business: Stein Mart-- i have a closet full of unique lovely items from that store-- and of course since the pandemic i haven't stepped foot in their stores. Neither have thousands of other people, which is why they are closing all 279 stores: i didn't know they had that many stores: I can't think how any retail clothing store can stay in business: i won't step foot in any clothing stores. I mean who wants to touch those clothes and try them on now? I ordered a leather jacket on line. I don't like doing that but it is the new way of life. I will really miss that store, especially the one in Fort Myers- they have a boutique section (if i was much younger i would spent all my money there)-- Unique clothing at discounted prices. It is just sad-- and of course think of all the other business, large and small that have gone out of business. You wonder when we will be able to shop again, eat in a restaurant again ----

Oh Wings! I will go shallow with you. The Steinmart in Naples was one of my most favorite places to go. I have found so many great pieces there through the years and will sorely miss it. I only get to Naples 3-4 times a year so it was always a treat to spend a few hours there every trip. I get it. Life like we knew it in many ways is over. That said, we will adjust...because that is what we do.

Oh boy ... put your masks on, everyone.

US deaths from the coronavirus will reach 410,000 by the end of the year, more than double the current death toll, and deaths could soar to 3000 per day in December, the University of Washington's health institute has forecast.

Deaths could be reduced by 30 per cent if more Americans wore face masks as epidemiologists have advised, but mask-wearing is declining, the university's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation said.

The US death rate projected by the IHME model, which has been cited by the White House coronavirus taskforce, would more than triple the current death rate of some 850 per day.

"We expect the daily death rate in the United States, because of seasonality and declining vigilance of the public, to reach nearly 3000 a day in December," the institute, which bills itself as an independent research centre, said in an update of its periodic forecasts.

Things are soaring in France. A dozen school closures, right after they just opened.

France recorded almost 9000 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, setting a record since the beginning of the pandemic, while more people were also hospitalised as a result of the disease.

Health authorities said in a statement that there had been 8975 new confirmed cases, almost 1500 higher than the previous March 31 daily peak of 7578, when France was in one of Europe's strictest coronavirus lockdowns.

The surge in parts of France, which is partially due to increased testing, has meant a dozen schools have been forced to close just days into the new academic year.

I know it's horrible, but that did make me laugh out loud. We really need this over - I feel like I know all of you and this thing is so unfair. Be safe, be good, be happy.

Hopefully he sneezed into the crook of his elbow. I hope I never have to sneeze while wearing a mask. Sneezing into a mask and then re-breathing/ inhaling all the by products of that sneeze isn't a pleasant thought. Yuk!

A little good news from an Icelandic study ... especially for the people who have been very ill from the virus, or are older and have recovered.

The paper’s central findings are that, out of 1,797 tested people who’d recovered from Covid, 91.1% produced detectable levels of antibodies. Moreover, these levels hadn’t declined four months after the diagnosis. The immune response was higher among older individuals — who are at greater risk of developing a more dangerous form of the coronavirus — and among those who presented the worst symptoms.

It is also too early so say whether these antibody findings will hold over a longer time period. It’s possible that immunity will fade as time goes by, leaving us more exposed to the virus. But, for now, there’s no reason to fear the worst.

How sad it is to go into a tavern, that used to be full of people, laughing, talking, drinking, playing pool...and it is like a large, empty warehouse. A few employees, wandering around, with masks, armed with Clorox wipes.

Since there has been a substantial increase in cases since the University started classes this week, our mayor has ordered bars and restaurants to close at 11pm vs being open until 2am. Apparently 11-2 are the peak hours. However, most of the bars are downtown and so is the bridge connecting us to Minnesota so people are just driving over there since the bars are still open until 2am.

We really need to get rid of this virus.

We are having young people, mostly guys, in Victoria causing a big ruckus today ... with a few older covid deniers among them.
It is so annoying to the rest of the country because we all just want them to settle down and get rid of the virus in their state. They don't seem to understand that they will never be allowed unrestricted movement around Australia until that happens. Nobody else wants them in any other state with their belligerent and uncooperative kind of attitude.

They have one week to go before restrictions ease. And they are embarassing all of the great effort the rest of the Victorians are making.

It's all about them.

Tested in the UK.

Where did you get that from? That's wrong info. It was tested in Moscow. From your link -

"But results from two early clinical trials done in Moscow and published today in the prestigious British journal The Lancet, indicate the vaccine is safe and effective.

The Russian scientists behind the studies said the jab stimulated an immune response in all inoculated participants and did not cause any serious health issues.

Production of antibodies seen in the patients suggests the vaccine was able to prepare the body to be able to fend off Covid-19.

Independent Western scientists said the results were 'somewhat reassuring' but warned the trials were too small and narrow to justify injecting millions of Russians.

Just 76 people were involved in the study, only half of whom were actually jabbed, and volunteers were all healthy and mostly in their 20s and 30s. "

So they vaccinated only 38 young people in their study.

I notice that the church's FB has been shut down and the pastor and his family's posts have been removed or have gone private. Perhaps there are some local ramifications, as it seems there was no substantive known cases of the virus in that regional area until this wedding started the growing outbreak.

“I still have family and friends there and this has torn the community up,” said Day, who now lives in Bangor. “This is a tiny, pristine part of the state. People thought they were safe. I don’t understand why Bell has not expressed a word of remorse for these people.”

Day also wonders if Bell quarantined after he was told about the wedding outbreak and following a New England Baptist Fellowship conference on Aug. 4 in Coventry, Rhode Island — a state with higher infection rates than Maine. A brochure for the event shows ministers from around New England listed as speakers, including Bell.

“He comes home from that conference and a few days later, Aug. 6, he is flying up to Millinocoket in his plane,” Day said.

The pastor was called by the police chief?
From your article :

“Sad day in America,” Bell wrote, “when my father is called by the chief of police with embarrassment and remorse and told that he will be arrested if he has church in our building on Sunday.”

Cherith’s older sister Elisabeth, who lives in Lebanon, also tweeted about the police call.

“America, Maine… it’s time to wake up and stand together. They’ve taken so much from you already, will you bow your heads and submit to the tyranny while they strip you of your rights to worship God?

“Please pray for my dad as he navigates through this. He has already said he will stand for truth, always. I’ll be standing with him.”
