Surprise, surprise.

Those with common sense assumed this months ago, but now there is more substantive scientific evidence from the CDC itself. Evidence which is contrary to what others have been pushing and would have the public believe.

Study: Kids infected at day care spread coronavirus at home

Scientists already know children can spread the virus. But the study published Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “definitively indicates — in a way that previous studies have struggled to do — the potential for transmission to family members,” said William Hanage, a Harvard University infectious diseases researcher.

Transmission Dynamics of COVID-19 Outbreaks Associated ...

Snipped from the study:

Analysis of contact tracing data in Salt Lake County, Utah, identified outbreaks of COVID-19 in three small to large child care facilities linked to index cases in adults and associated with transmission from children to household and nonhousehold contacts. In these three outbreaks, 54% of the cases linked to the facilities occurred in children. Transmission likely occurred from children with confirmed COVID-19 in a child care facility to 25% of their nonfacility contacts.

Mitigation strategies§ could have helped limit SARS-CoV-2 transmission in these facilities. To help control the spread of COVID-19, the use of masks is recommended for persons aged ≥2 years.¶ Although masks likely reduce the transmission risk (5), some children are too young to wear masks but can transmit SARS-CoV-2, as was seen in facility B when a child aged 8 months transmitted SARS-CoV-2 to both parents.

The findings in the report are subject to at least three limitations. First, guidance for contact tracing methodology changed during the pandemic and could have resulted in differences in data collected over time. Second, testing criteria initially included only persons with typical COVID-19 signs and symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath, which could have led to an underestimate of cases and transmission. Finally, because the source for the outbreak at facility C was unknown, it is possible that cases associated with facility C resulted from transmission outside the facility.

COVID-19 is less severe in children than it is in adults (6,7), but children can still play a role in transmission (8,9). The infected children exposed at these three facilities had mild to no symptoms. Two of three asymptomatic children likely transmitted SARS-CoV-2 to their parents and possibly to their teachers. Having SARS-CoV-2 testing available, timely results, and testing of contacts of patients in child care settings regardless of symptoms can help prevent transmission and provide a better understanding of the role played by children in transmission. Findings that staff members worked while their household contacts were ill with COVID-19–compatible symptoms support CDC guidance for child care programs recommendations that staff members and attendees quarantine and seek testing if household members are symptomatic (4). This guidance also recommends the use of face masks, particularly among staff members, especially when children are too young to wear masks, along with hand hygiene, frequent cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces, and staying home when ill to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission.

I'm not the least bit surprised. Just like everything else the "science" often claimed is about pushing some agenda rather than facing reality or protecting people. I mean what illness is there that children can catch but NOT spread? I mean is there absolutely anything out there that works like that? Some sort of weird magical immune systems they have?

In local news a local highschool football team is canceling their second game in a row due to covid exposure. It turns out opening up schools doesn't magically suspend viral transmission. And a virus doesn't give a rat's arse if you consider your "sportsing" important or not. Local moms of snowflakes are still determined to overcome this by pretending it doesn't exist though.

I still can't believe we are living through this and have to determine how much we want to risk our lives vs just staying indoors for another year or two.

Florida bars to reopen even as state battles coronavirus

“Florida bars are set to reopen at half capacity on Monday, a decision that coincides with university students' return to campuses for in-person learning, and as Governor Ron DeSantis encourages travel, despite a large number of coronavirus cases in the state.

The state this week rescinded an executive order issued in late June, when the coronavirus was surging in Florida, to curtail bar drinking. As of Thursday, 12,326 people in Florida have died of COVID-19 and roughly 655,000 have been infected, according to Johns Hopkins University. The state has a positive coronavirus test rate of 13.5%, among the highest in the country.”

As a potential treatment of COVID-19: Montelukast

FDA puts ‘black box’ warning on popular asthma medication; teens speak out about side effects | KLAS

Just going to leave these two here. I have a thread in the basement about montelukast as my 4 yr old son was on it for approx a year, I’d love any of our professionals in medicine to pop in and take a look.

These were the first two links that came up when I googled montelukast and Covid and montelukast and fda, I hope they are ok to post...
Wow! I’m on this.

This doesn't even make sense. Florida's leadership has seemingly done almost every single thing that is contradictory to common sense.

I don't even think that there is a statewide mandatory mask requirement.Despite DeSantis, Nearly One-Third Of Florida Counties Require Masks

That has been left up to local authorities. I guess that way there can be zero accountability. Perhaps, local government will step up again.

Christian Prudhomme, the race director of the Tour de France, has tested positive for coronavirus and left the race after 650 swab tests were carried out on race officials, riders and team staff during Monday’s first rest day.

“The testing campaign revealed that Christian Prudhomme has tested positive for Covid-19. The director of the Tour will now quarantine for seven days,” read a statement from race promoters ASO. “Although he was not part of the ‘race bubble’ and had not been in direct contact with any of the riders and their entourage, Christian Prudhomme still decided to get tested.”

Prudhomme’s positive test has now sparked concerns for the health of the French prime minister, Jean Castex, who was a VIP guest in Prudhomme’s car during Saturday’s stage to Loudenvielle in the Pyrenees. “They were both wearing masks and respecting social distancing,” a spokesman for Castex said. “The prime minister is to undergo a new test, just in case.”

I guess we'll soon find out if wearing a mask while in the car with a CoVid positive person provides sufficient protection.

Has anyone else been watching the Tour? Lots of people are wearing masks and social distancing, but there are still places along the route where fans are not wearing masks, or not wearing over their mouth and nose, and they stand in cheering, shouting crowds, so close to the riders that they actually can touch them.

I watched a bit last weekend. But the leg I was watching was pretty hilly and curvy. So I didn't really see any crowds.

There are about a million Canadian snowbirds who normally would be starting their trek to Florida in the upcoming weeks, but it doesn't look as though the migration is going to happen this year. They inject about 8bn into the economy.

For economic reasons alone, you'd think that Florida would want to clean up their CoVid problem.

Is Canada keeping them in or the US keeping them out?

Well, we have absolutely no answer to that very good question. Seems to me, that none of our leaders are on the same page.
A whole bunch of "winging it" moo

Where do your State legislators go for guidance? What is their protocol when making pandemic related decisions? Do they consult with your Public Health Officers, or do they have to toe a party line, or are they left to wing it the best that they can?

The people need and expect good leadership during this time.

The border will remain closed until CoVid is under control in the U.S. There is a provision that allows a person to cross the border if they are going to their permanent home, which in many snowbird's cases, is Florida. But they won't even try to croas the border when Florida's not controlling CoVid.

My US friends who live on the border just don't get what the problem is.
They usually do lots of sailing between the two countries in summer, staying overnight at each other's marinas. They keep thinking that the border is going to open up, then Trudeau extends the closure for another 90 days.

Did you see the report of the family and friends who left Victoria and cruised up the coast to Qld? They roamed around my coastal town on their journey up the coast.

So can an Australian. Probably lots of nationalities can. I was a permanent resident of the US for years, could come and go between our two countries as much as I wanted to - live a bit here, live a bit there.
You just have to not leave the US for more than a year to keep your US permanent residency - without some kind of official permission.
