not a chance IMO
are they not reading the news??

Ontario's 2nd wave of COVID-19 forecast to peak in October

I hate to say it, but I think there are quite a few people who do not read any news about covid.
Nor does a 'peak' mean much to some. They are numbed from the covid death figures they have been seeing for months.

It is a pandemic, one of the most significant events that may happen in our own lifetimes, and yet too many people seem to have just basically switched it off in their minds.
Other than remembering to slip on a mask when they walk into the grocery store (in that area).

IMO

Just hearing about this on our morning TV news .......

Disney is laying off 28,000 employees as pandemic hammers its theme parks

The cuts will affect the Disney's Parks, Experiences and Products unit. The company said 67% of the employees laid off will be part-time workers.

Disney's parks and resorts division has more than 100,000 US employees.

Disney's theme parks shut down globally this spring as the pandemic hit, dealing a huge blow to the company's bottom line. The company's profit dropped a whopping 91% during the first three months of 2020.

Josh D'Amaro, the chairman of Disney (DIS) Parks, said the staffing cuts were necessary because of the "prolonged impact" of coronavirus on business. That included "limited capacity due to physical distancing requirements and the continued uncertainty regarding the duration of the pandemic."

Yeah, but there are countless wonderful, caring people who are in that age range. There's got to be something more behind his thinking than just lack of concern for his constituents. There's a photo in the news report linked below, showing him holding a chart with the "survival rates" by age group.

He is deceiving the people.

Florida reports 107 new COVID-19 deaths on first day after restaurants reopened

  • Gov. Ron DeSantis shows a card stating COVID-19 survival rates by age group as he announces phase three openings at news conference in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Friday, Sept. 25, 2020. (John Pendygraft/Tampa Bay Times via AP)
The board can hopefully be read in this image. I will write it out below.

Covid 19
Survival rates by age group

0-19: 99.997 %
20-49: 99.98 %
50- 69: 99.5 %
70+ : 94.6 %

(I think it states on the bottom of the board that the CDC is the source but it is difficult to read.)

We are hearing from the AMA (Australian Medical Association), as well as from an Aussie WHO advisor, this morning.

Don't be expecting a vaccine rollout until 2022. Hopefully somewhat sooner, perhaps mid/late 2021 - but have no expectations.

Until then, we need to adjust our lifestyle to allow for safely living within a pandemic. Semi-permanent distancing requirements, continued limits on pubs/clubs/restaurants, preparedness within the health care & aged care systems, etc.

A coronavirus vaccine may not be available until 2022 — anything sooner is optimistic, says epidemiologist and WHO adviser @MarylouiseMcla1

Eighteen Million Meals: A Look Inside New York City’s Emergency Food Aid Stockpile - THE CITY

"Mayor Bill de Blasio made the announcement in April during the height of the pandemic: plans for an emergency food stockpile for the city, to be amassed in a football field-sized section of a colossal warehouse in Wayne, N.J., about 20 miles from Midtown.

Stacked across five rows, climbing about 40 feet high, the site currently contains 150,000 cases of items such as elbow macaroni, instant mashed potatoes, peanut butter, black beans and Oreo cookies.

On the refrigerated side of the warehouse operated by Driscoll Food distributors, an additional 3,600 cases containing carrots, green peppers, celery and other fresh produce are earmarked for New York City. Overall, the city’s food reserves take up about one-sixth of the sprawling warehouse.

On Monday, as part of a revised mission away from an emergency stockpile, those 3,600 cases are scheduled to be delivered to three sites of the Masbia soup kitchen network in Brooklyn and Queens — the first time items are being distributed to New Yorkers under the emergency food initiative announced in April.

“It’s perfect timing,” said Alex Rapaport, director of Masbia. “We’re overrun with need.”"

Warnings Issued as Virus Cases Rise in New York

“After months of promising signs in its fight against the coronavirus, New York reported a spike in its rate of new cases on Monday, including a rise in New York City and in its northern suburbs.”

Cuomo Warns Drastic Measures May Come as Infection Rate Soars in 10 New York ZIP Codes
New Jersey too, specifically Ocean County. *sigh*

AND WE'VE BEEN SO GOOD!! :(

Labor Day celebrations contagion now showing significance in case numbers?
And/or kids returning to school. imo

I’m glad they are doing well in their recovery!
I hope the other sister is doing well also.
Makes me think - I’m going to make sure that I have emergency numbers posted in the house somewhere - perhaps a neighbor, church contact, ex, someone that would be able to assist with groceries, food, etc.
That’s a lot of weight to lose in a short amount of time!
It was over a 7 week period. The daughter had no taste and couldn't eat for almost 2 weeks. The mother was in IVs for 10 days and had no taste.

They ordered Kroger delivery and later door dash. She said, they wouldn't let the church members or other family members near for 4 weeks after recovery. The other sister is doing well, back at work. Both daughters donated plasma at UVA. They had an older male church member with Covid and he received plasma at Duke, 2 doses.

Our neighborhood would have helped out and they have a large family. They are just amazing and such a positive attitude.

I have always cooked from scratch 98% of what we eat, even when the kids were younger- and lived here. ( cheaper, and didn't need chemicals and dyes with ADHD) I now have eliminated bread, white potatoes, wheat flour, sugar, and pasta on the advice of hubby's MD. Meat, veggies, fruit, eggs. ( intolerance to casein, so Almond milk and very hard cheeses for cooking, etc.) Almond or coconut flours on occasion. Everyone's weight and blood pressure are much better. Supplements D, Zinc, Magnesium, A, and B. Our health insurance doesn't cover WLS. Very few do, and BMI has to be a certain %

Good job. We did the same a few years ago and we're in better shape than ever. I really struggled with relearning how to cook and eat but it was worth it. I'm really glad we transitioned before Covid got here.

We did this awhile back, then slid back into the carbs due to cost and ease. He had his yearly physical and she stopped that cold.

Defiant Maine pastor’s family planning wedding events across state line amid virus outbreaks

“The family of the defiant Baptist pastorlinked to Maine’s largest COVID-19 outbreak after officiating a wedding near Millinocket in August will gather next month for another wedding and reception, just a few miles from virus hotspots in York County.

About 50 are expected to attend the 20-minute wedding in a sanctuary designed to hold 525 people, Leyden said. It will be “an in-and-out service” that won’t include a choir. Attendees are expected to wear masks, provide names and phone numbers for contact tracing and observe social distance guidelines intended to prevent community spread of the coronavirus.

Later that day, the family will hold a separate post-wedding reception at the Hall at Great Falls, an event center in Somersworth, New Hampshire, just one-tenth of a mile from the Maine border and roughly 15 miles from Sanford. The reception was listed on a public wedding invitation website and was removed after a Bangor Daily News reporter asked a member of the Bell family for comment. The family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the event.

Despite the listing, the website for the Hall at Great Falls states that “no events are being scheduled” due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Multiple attempts to reach the Hall at Great Falls were unsuccessful. “

Hopefully the reception will be held outdoors.

DH and I got ours on August 31, the earliest we have ever done that. I'm a bit concerned that we did it too soon but we were getting anxious and our friends were getting their shots. And we had a notice on "MyChart" from our health care system to get flu shots.

Of course the efficacy of flu shots vary each year in how protective they are; I hope this year's shot will be a good one!

My long flu shot story...When I checked with our doctor at the end of August they didn’t have the high dose quadrivalent vaccine for seniors yet. We got a call from her office late last week that we could make an appointment, so we got it today. Whew!

Last year the pharmacy where we usually get our flu shot did not give us the high dose vaccine, despite my checking three times with three different people, including the pharmacist giving the shot, that we were getting the high dose vaccine for seniors. I didn’t discover this until we arrived home and I looked at the paperwork we were given after the shot. When I called to complain, the pharmacist finally ‘fessed up that they had run out...despite there being a sign outside that it was available. I was livid and I was not willing to trust that or any of the other two pharmacies in town this year.

Needless to say, I checked with the doctor’s medical assistant today and she very nicely handed me the vial to look at when I explained why I was being juuuust a wee bit obsessive. :D The print was too small...no surprise there...so she read it to us and it was the correct vaccine...Fluzone high dose quadrivalent (there is no high dose trivalent this year).
