I looked at a cruise website and found cruises available for bookings starting in November, it appears that are gearing and taking advantage of possible holiday travel. I just looked at cruises from Florida and then looked at Baltimore MD just to see another state and they too are a viable for bookings starting November. I just glanced at Carnival and NCL and cruises were going to the Bahamas, Mexico, Belize and Roatan. I didn’t see or look for eastern Caribbean cruises. It’ll be interesting to see if these cruises sail.
No way the rest of these nations are going to want Americans in, jmo.

This is freaking insane. We know the seriousness of this situation bc we followed them intensely in the beginning, and I would go so far as to assert that these cruise ships instigated and accelerated spread, specifically wrt to Florida.

This makes zero sense. And people don’t even remember getting stranded on board, all that stuff.

This is sickening news and I am outraged.

So, will we let these cruisers back into the country when the virus encompasses the ship?

Yeah this is freaking insane. No words.

I actually received an email today, from several cruise companies.

Copied and pasted the email below:
"The adventure begins the moment we decide to take a trip. Make travel plans during the Upgrade Away Sale for something special to look forward to. And keep your wanderlust alive with all things Book Now
Don’t miss out on the chance to plan your next trip during the Upgrade Away Sale. Enjoy a FREE stateroom location upgrade1 for cruises and cruise tours departing March 2021 and beyond. Location is everything, and we’ve got stateroom options for every taste from interior staterooms to expansive Mini Suites. And whichever room you book — enjoy a prime location upgrade on us!".

What is missing from this "fantastic offer"? Yes, Covid! That information was way far down, in smaller print...

Presumably, like Disney, the onus is all on the passengers to keep themselves safe from covid .... no liability on the part of the cruise companies?

OH NO! :(

Can someone please bring over some snippets? I’m having trouble viewing the article, tia.
Click on Axios reported.
Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was overruled when he pushed to extend a "no-sail order" on passenger cruises into next year, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the conversation today in the White House Situation Room.

Absolute atrocity and outrage. I just can’t even believe this. Actually I can, but kwim.

A cruise ship (Ruby Princess) actually started our first wave here in Australia.

One of the best things that I heard is that we are going to up our game in manufacture of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. Move away from importing so many of them.

And yes, I am more than happy for a return to "Buy Australian". And actually have a wide variety of Australian products there for us to buy.

Budget 2020 to be 'necessarily different in scale': Morrison

I hear ya. I spend lots of time looking for made in comments. Jmo

Because people need to take some/a lot of responsibility for the health of themselves, their families, their coworkers, their fellow students.

It is blatantly obvious that this pandemic is killing people all over the world. Without considering any data from the US, it is quite clear that there are massive outbreaks and deaths everywhere. Common sense says that the US is not excluded from that.

IMO
I agree that people should take responsibility for themselves too. So, if they want to go on a cruise or go to Florida, or go to a pub, then so be it. I won't be joining any of them mind you, not till ATV. (after the vaccine).

I wonder why this is coming out right now and not several months ago? Personally I do not believe him and what experience does one need purchasing PPE? We have all had to learn about it PDQ.

The deaths he is talking about were projected death estimates and he left in April after only a few weeks. And it was the individual states that should have had their own supplies anyway.

Actually it came out several months ago too. If you want to go down a rabbit hole, just do a bit of back checking. The story gets even more sordid. After Silly Season we'll have a good chat about it.

Got holiday plans? CDC info. Same logical inform, except in more detail, but in plain English, stay home. After reading it all, I just took a deep breath.

Unbelievable.

So.

Again, I read here every day, but don't post often. I'm a quiet observer.

I have posted at least twice that I think I had Covid at the beg. of January.

My hair has thinned big time. I still. STILL have a cough. My left ear still has fluid in it. I have sharp pains ( I dunno if this is a thing) like when you eat something cold? That sharp pain in your head? I have them in my feet and hands mostly...but sometimes in other places. I have shortness of breath. I have major anxiety (which I had before so that doesn't count). Also, I'm in pre menopause ...I know TMI but it's important. Have not had a period since the beg. of Jan....but have had one a week ago.

What are people stocking up on now? I have read that you guys think it will get bad again. Any lists of of things I should buy would be most welcome.

And, as always, thanks for all of the smart people that post here. (((hugs)))

Hopefully all of these people will be going right into a self-imposed 14 day quarantine when they return, as self-responsible people would. imo

Wow, those sound like hypothyroid symptoms. But, I suppose that you've had it checked.

Stocking up? Get your Christmas shopping done now, because things will take forever to arrive. Do you need winter clothes? I'd get your order in for spring seeds soon too. If you are in the US, it might be a good idea to stock up on Aluminum foil, and canned beer and pop if that's something you use. I suspect you will see continued shortages there. Do you need anything to do basic house repairs? Do a walk through of your house and look for items that need to be replaced regularly, smoke detector, batteries, light bulbs, duct tape, etc.

What hobbies do you enjoy? Check your supplies there too. Will you need a new charger cable for your ipad or phone? Do you use a lot of office supplies?

Thanks for the reminder to tend to these things.

Cynical day today... or maybe to a wedding, a Florida bar, an outdoor party, a political rally...

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

Re: this cruise ship business, the potential global ramifications of this is just, beyond catastrophic. Those of us who have been here since day 1 know especially how dangerous this is. Now we’re dealing with inciting a possible GLOBAL superspreading event. How does one overrule the CDC? This is just, atrocious. We can’t be spreading covid to other nations. I hope nobody lets us in.
