This is what i think is nasty:
(and disrespectful and unnecessary)

Trump Implied Hope Hicks Might Have Caught Covid-19 From Military, Police
Trump Implied Hope Hicks Might Have Caught Covid-19 From Military, Police

My view/thoughts

I don't think that the President was being disrespectful regarding Ms. Hicks, one of his closest advisers. He described her as warm and a hard worker, and that many military people like to be around her to express their appreciation for all that the administration does for the military and law enforcement. He spoke very highly of her, I listened to his remarks last night on the Hannity show, and I didn't hear anything disrespectful. He hoped she would be well, noting that she is young and strong. These were his wishes for her.

I agree, I was following closely. This was the headline the day after he was taken by ambulence to the hospital, after being sick at home for 10 days: Coronavirus: Prime Minister Boris Johnson admitted to hospital for COVID-19 tests
"A spokesperson confirmed his admission was a precautionary rather than emergency measure". IMO this was not true, he was severely ill and it was an emergency.

I do think there's an element of not wanting to alarm people, or cause unnecessary panic and so forth, when it comes to the leader of a country. However, as I recall, Dominic Cumming, the right hand man, also became extremely ill and snuck off to the countryside, and that was kept completely secret. I don't know whether anyone's discovered who, exactly, was running the country during that time period.

Dominic Raab was officially running the country when Boris was poorly, not Dominic Cumming, who is not an MP.

Where I work, all meetings are done via computer. We all have our own offices. And no one is around anyone else. No lunches, no pot luck parties, no Happy Hour on Fridays. Zip.

That way, if one person did get Covid, the office can still run. We would not be contacts or subject to quarantine.

Do you have links for this? I have not heard of only the elite getting treatment, I would guess those working on the front line to help Covid patients would also disagree.

I have not heard of patients refused treatment until they can’t breathe either. I know NY for example has an excess of ventilators.

I never said that only the elite receive treatment. Let me clear, only the elite in the US are going to receive aggressive prophylactic treatment when they are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms.

The rest of us are told to go home, "get plenty of rest" and self-isolate for a certain period and to not come to the ER until and unless we are having issues breathing.
Anyone even minimally following theses threads understands that.

Here are the CDC guidelines indicating just that:

If you have a fever, cough or other symptoms, you might have COVID-19. Most people have mild illness and are able to recover at home. If you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, contact your healthcare provider.

  • Keep track of your symptoms.
  • If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), get emergency medical care immediately.
If you are sick with COVID-19 or think you might have COVID-19, follow the steps below to care for yourself and to help protect other people in your home and community.
Stay home except to get medical care
  • Stay home. Most people with COVID-19 have mild illness and can recover at home without medical care. Do not leave your home, except to get medical care. Do not visit public areas.
  • Take care of yourself. Get rest and stay hydrated. Take over-the-counter medicines, such as acetaminophen, to help you feel better.
  • Stay in touch with your doctor. Call before you get medical care. Be sure to get care if you have trouble breathing, or have any other emergency warning signs, or if you think it is an emergency.
  • Avoid public transportation, ride-sharing, or taxis.
Monitor your symptoms
  • Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, or other symptoms.
  • Follow care instructions from your healthcare provider and local health department. Your local health authorities may give instructions on checking your symptoms and reporting information.
When to seek emergency medical attention
Look for emergency warning signs* for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately:
  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Bluish lips or face
*This list is not all possible symptoms. Please call your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Bottom line - average people are not given antivirals when they have mild to moderate symptoms or none at all. I cannot prove a negative. Show me that they are.

My husband had that swab test: he tells me it was icky but not that bad. Hope i don't have to take it---

Mine was for the flu. I’m assuming it’s the same but it was all I could do not to grab the nurse’s hands. I had no idea they could or would go that deep!!

It just felt super weird.

I don't see what being an Amercan citizen has got to do with reading a graph. It's not misleading to me and I am not an American citizen so I take offence. When does unemployment "expire" as you say?

In the US, the figure you really want is “total employed.” The difference is quite eye-opening. It’s something that students here learn in their college economics, sociology and political science classes.

Unemployment, in the US, is a kind of insurance status. You only remain on the list for as long as you are eligible for...unemployment.

Then, depending on the state, you drop off the list. In California, that’s a year after you first became unemployed.

Further, if you voluntarily separated from your job or were “furloughed” you may or may not show up on the list.

We have about 155 million employed persons, of which about 25 million are part time workers.

If you track that number, you get an idea of what’s really going on with the job market. The unemployment number gives you an idea of how many Americans were 1) unemployed; 2) were let go in the past year and, in some states, 3) have placed themselves on the time-limited list of the unemployed.

Both figures are useful. Unemployment fluctuations really do show how many people are recently fired/laid off and are seeking employment (some states require that a person actively seek employment and check in with a local agency about that search - in California, they used to require that to remain on unemployment, a person had to spend X amount of hours a week at a state-designated employment center; many colleges have these, they are also in welfare offices, etc.)

A person who gets fired, doesn’t apply for unemployment and instead starts their own business will still show up in the unemployment figures most places - for at least six months.

Some scholars have said this entire unemployment reporting system needs standardization but right now and for the past decade, our nation has had other priorities.

We actually have more employed people right now than we’ve had at some times in the past - so there’s that.

ETA: the graph of employment

United States Employment Rate | 1948-2020 Data | 2021-2022 Forecast | Historical

We were steadily improving this stat since 1990. We got lots of people off of unemployment, forced full time students into full or part time employment, made welfare recipients seek work and maintain it, provided childcare for them to do so (with federal aid), etc

Only hospitalized patients get Remdesivir as it is IV supplied. So those sent home would not be able to get it anyway.

Yes. Makes sense.

Yes. Makes sense.

Also, remdesivir is not without its risks. It is also in short supply (many local hospitals have none of it - and that’s true of the other newer anti-virals and possible therapeutics that get reported on). Here in SoCal, you really need to check out your hospitals (even the USC and UCLA affiliated ones do not all have adequate supplies of the newer anti-virals should we see a big uptick).

However, if I had CoVid, I would definitely want to go to a hospital with a UCLA hospitalist (a doctor who specializes in getting proper resources to the patient from throughout the UCLA system - the nearest one to me is about 40 minutes away).

Gilead CEO: We're studying new ways to treat coronavirus with remdesivir outside of the hospital

“O'Day said Monday that Gilead this month began trials to look at using IV remdesivir in outpatient settings, which may make it possible to "keep people out of the hospital in high-risk cases."

He noted the California-based company also has been testing the drug, which had previously been studied as a potential Ebola treatment, to be used in inhaled form for Covid-19 patients. Those trials began in July.

"If one could do it without an IV, right to the site of where you get this replication of the virus in the lungs, we're also hopeful that you might be able to treat outside the hospital and prevent patients from ever going to the hospital," said O'Day, who became Gilead CEO in March 2019.”

I have no idea if this is something that is being offered to POTUS and vital associates, but considering how NBA and celebrities were able to get tests when the general public couldn’t get their hands on them? Nothing would surprise me.

Dominic Raab was officially running the country when Boris was poorly, not Dominic Cumming, who is not an MP.

And Dominic Raab’s father in law recently told a journalist that at a party at the Raab house (IIRC), Boris told him that he was considering stepping down in January...apparently still not back to full energy levels.

When a person is in their 50’s and they get a serious viral infection (of any kind), they do not bounce back as rapidly as in their earlier years. Boris has also recently said that he realizes being overweight was not good and that he needs to lose more.

NBC just reported T’s height and (alleged) weight (probably from his DL info - and we all know how that goes).

T is just over the line into obesity, not merely overweight. Personally, I think he weighs a tad more than stated...based on years of field experience estimating both height and weight - and T’s recent photos of himself in the golf cart.

Ok so it won't "expire" till December. In UK I believe it is based on people who register to work not on benefits received.
If you signed up for unemployment on April 1st, the standard unemployment insurance would end at the end of June and the special pandemic insurance compensation would extend the benefits until the first of October.
The extra $600 per week ended July 25 -so now the maximum compensation per week is $350. I’m learning how to live on less.

Do you have a MSM link to your Raab party info please? This is pretty important info if it is substantiated. <modsnip>

ok thanks for clarifying. So you are one of those millions until December? Does the $350 expire in December? Have to say that is more than twice my state pension.

He would have to be accepted into the trial though. They may already have the number they need.

ETA he is too old also. From your link -
This randomized, placebo-controlled trial will enroll approximately 60 healthy individuals aged 18-45 in the United States to form the basis for further clinical study of the inhaled drug, particularly in patients whose disease has not progressed to require hospitalization.

Why would he do this?

Just hours before President Trump announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19, he was mingling with supporters at a fundraising event held at his New Jersey golf club—and even posed for personal photo-ops with them.

On top of the personal photo-ops, local reports state that the roundtable event with dozens of supporters went ahead despite knowledge of Hicks’ infection, and Trump delivered a droplet-spraying speech. According to The Washington Post, Trump didn’t wear a mask at the golf club, or on the plane back to Washington, D.C. The president then announced he’d tested positive after he had returned to the White House.

That probably would not be a problem. They have a location set up out of Bethesda, Maryland, United States, 20892.

Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Remdesivir (GS-5734™) Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in an Outpatient Setting - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov

the study start date was Sept 18.

please be assured I am just offering observations... none of us, unless we are in the inner circle, or deep state, truly know if there are privileges and loop holes for the elite class.

Coronavirus: Major outbreak at Northumbria University as 770 students test positive

Northumbria University says 770 students have tested positive for coronavirus.

A spokesperson for the institution, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, said 78 students were displaying symptoms.

All of them are now self-isolating.

Flatmates and any close contacts are also going into quarantine, and have been advised to book a test if they develop COVID-19 symptoms, the spokesperson added.

The UK research shows that the main spreaders of their current surge are indeed the universities (because it can bubble quietly under the surface in its mild or asymptomatic way until hundreds of young people have it).

The young people have already transmitted it to dozens or hundreds of older people at that point and it spreads out into nearby communities and then further.

Same is probably happening in Florida and Wisconsin. 5-12 year olds can spread CoVid, but at a much lower rate than 13-17 year olds. Somewhere in the middle teens, when the kids’ bodies are adult-sized, they become as good a transmitter as any adult (but are rarely symptomatic enough for parents to take them to the doctor or for testing).

Fatigue is often the first symptom - but surely most of us, even as full blown adults, wouldn’t run to the doctor over that. I’m not sure that kids and teens even know what “fatigue” is, they don’t have enough life experience and teens are notorious for sleeping 12 hours a day even when in good health.

19-25 year olds, as well, ignore signs of fatigue in order to party (or...study) and are accustomed to feeling tired afterward - hard for them to distinguish.
