Dr. Campbell also goes into the most recent IFR of COVID, drills down into the exponential growth now in the UK, and latest projection of worldwide exposure.

For those that don't have the time to watch, he has a summary below the video. (He does get riled up at the WHO and the debacle/incompetencies - his words - of Public Health England and how they missed about 16,000 cases/48,000 contacts since Sep 24th due to they were using an old version of excel to track and they didn't realize the spreadsheet was full and throwing off cases from the database for many days)

Dr. Yong has also updated his explanation of IFR/CFR and COVID vs. flu, which I found very helpful for understanding. (he's another who has written long term about COVID - Spoiler is that you need to consider the R-naught also, which has been reduced SIGNIFICANTLY due to masks, social distancing and hygiene for current Rt, not just the IFR)
Clarifying the True Fatality Rate of Covid-19: Same as the Flu?

Oh. Not quite as bad as travelling to London on a long train journey while awaiting tests results because you have symptoms, then attending parliament/meetings, then getting a positive result and deciding to travel all the way home again by train. Not just political but also completely relevant.

Covid MP 'went to church while showing symptoms'

Police Scotland are not thought to be considering any action since self-isolation is guidance rather than a legal requirement in Scotland.

Looks like she is not going to be prosecuted which is beyond ridiculous IMO.

NHS ready to roll out coronavirus vaccine next month if jab gets green light

'Supply issues' affect flu vaccines in Wales

Long story coming, from our own experience.......

Our surgery were advertising as next week to get the flu jab by queuing up outside the surgery. Well that could entail getting caught in terrible weather so we called and I stated that we were shielding so could we get an appointment. The receptionist said, shielding is over and I said when did that happen? She asked someone and then came back to me and said why are you shielding. I explained and she said I'll get the nurse to call you back. We received the call back and got an appointment for 8.30 this morning. Had to get up early to get the dogs and breakfast and allow for the travelling but we got there for it. We were the only two patients in the whole surgery, plus the nurse and the receptionist. Waiting room had two chairs only. We went straight in got the jabs and then were seen out a separate exit. No other patients before or after us and no queuing outside. Plus no shortage of flu vax.

Coronavirus killed three times as many people as flu and pneumonia combined, figures show

Coronavirus caused three times more deaths than pneumonia and flu combined in the first eight months of this year, new figures show.

There were 48,168 deaths due to COVID-19, 13,619 due to pneumonia and 394 deaths due to influenza in England and Wales between January and August, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Out of all deaths during this period, COVID-19 accounted for 12.4%, whereas 0.1% were due to flu and 3.5% caused by pneumonia.

Masks made mandatory outdoors across Italy

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said tougher measures were needed to avoid returning to an economically devastating lockdown in Italy.

"From now on, masks and protective gear have to be brought with us when we leave our house and worn. We have to wear them all the time unless we are in a situation of continuous isolation," he said.

Italy also took action to stem the number of cases coming in from Europe, announcing compulsory testing for anyone travelling from the UK, Netherlands, Belgium and the Czech Republic.

Brussels bars to shut for a month after spike in virus cases
Brussels authorities decided that all the city's bars, dance clubs and cafeterias will have to close for a month to counter a surge in new coronavirus cases. The measures go beyond nationwide restrictions that were announced only Tuesday, which ordered bars to close at 11 p.m.

Pubs and restaurants in central Scotland to close
All pubs and restaurants across central Scotland are to be closed because of a surge in new coronavirus cases. The new rules will apply to licensed premises, including Glasgow and Edinburgh. Pubs and restaurants will be able to open in other parts of Scotland - but can only serve alcohol outdoors. Shops across Scotland will be asked to return to 2m physical distancing from this weekend, and to reintroduce measures such as one-way systems.

Coronavirus killed three times as many people in England and Wales as flu and pneumonia combined, figures show

Coronavirus killed three times more people in England and Wales than pneumonia and influenza combined in the first eight months of this year, according to new data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The figures also reveal the toll that coronavirus has taken on care home residents, with the proportion of deaths due to Covid-19 almost double that due to influenza and pneumonia.

The agency's analysis of Covid-19, influenza and pneumonia deaths focuses on deaths where people died due to these conditions, rather than deaths where the conditions were either the underlying cause or mentioned as a contributing factor.

Help isn’t on the way: Regulators reject request for moratorium on utility cutoffs

Data submitted to the PSC by Florida Power & Light showed that 94,130 residential customers were 90 or more days past due in August, compared to 6,295 in August 2019. And 60,752 customers were past due by 60 days to 89 days in August, compared to 27,936 in August 2019.

Combined, those customers were more than $50 million behind in August, compared to $4.2 million the previous year.

The suspension would have coincided with a national moratorium on evictions and foreclosures announced on Sept. 4 by the CDC, an order that expires Dec. 31. Similar to the CDC moratorium, applicants would have been required to submit a sworn document attesting that their inability to pay their power bill was a result of COVID-19-related financial hardship.

In justifying the eviction moratorium, the CDC argued that allowing people to remain in their homes is critical to keeping COVID-positive patients isolated and socially distanced.

What’s next remains to be seen. Gov. Ron DeSantis could impose a moratorium by executive order, but lately he’s been removing assistance, such as the evictions moratorium he ordered from April 2 to Sept. 30, and restrictions like restaurant occupancy caps.

Singapore introduces 'cruises to nowhere' for travel-starved locals

Singapore has announced that it will launch pleasure cruises that don't actually visit any ports.

In order to ensure hygiene protocols, ships will depart from and return to the same spot, with no port calls in between. The ships will operate at no more than 50% capacity and are for Singapore residents only.

The Genting Cruise Lines' World Dream’s first “cruise to nowhere” will begin on November 6, while Royal Caribbean International's Quantum of the Seas will set sail in December.

Thanks for that more updated article, and keeping this investigation in the limelight.
This is the data in the article that we have to try to track.
Seems as if we already missed an update in September.

The panel is due to give an update on its work in September and is expected to present an interim report to the WHA in November.

Coronavirus investigation call made Australia a target

Australia experienced astonishing hostility from our Chinese trading partner after calling for an inquiry into the start of the outbreak — but we're not the only ones feeling their wrath, writes Andrew Probyn.

A further update is slated to be given in January and at next May's WHA meeting the panel will deliver its substantive report.

In a report released in late February, the WHO said: "Bats appear to be the reservoir of COVID-19 virus."

"But the intermediate host(s) has not yet been identified. However, three important areas of work are already underway in China to inform our understanding of the zoonotic origin of this outbreak," the report said.

I see that NZ's covid response has been deemed to be the best in the world - by a long shot - by senior executives surveyed by Bloomberg.

New Zealand’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has been the best in the world and is the country that gives business leaders the most confidence for future investment, according to a Bloomberg Media survey.

The index scores New Zealand at 238, above second-placed Japan at 204 and Taiwan in third on 198.

New Zealand ranked strongly for political stability, the economic recovery, virus control and social resilience in Bloomberg’s market crisis management index, published on Thursday.

New Zealand's Covid-19 response the best in the world, say global business leaders

This is an interesting article in that it summarizes the main concerns from the business community. From the article:

"The survey showed that businesses main concerns in the pandemic were the number of unknown problems that could arise, along with issues about supply chain, international business travel, the lack of local government support, and data security.

Their biggest focus coming out of the crisis was strengthening crisis management, business continuity planning, and digital transformation. There was also growing emphasis on managing staff optimism, heightening human resources and healthcare planning as well as cybersecurity measures."

Me too. I'm getting slowly adjusted to everything else and finding work-arounds.

This phase of my life was supposed to involve travel. Saved for years. So many of my colleagues are in the same boat - we finally can afford to take summers off and travel a little. We had our list of places. I am glad I did get to travel in the past, so sad for today's group of young would-be world travelers/couch surfers.

Yes, so many Bucket Lists rusting.......

The Commission on Presidential Debates says the 2nd Trump v. Biden debate - a week from today - will be VIRTUAL. Will still be a TOWN HALL style. Steve Scully & undecided voters will be in Miami. Trump will be at White House. Biden will also be remote.

Pentagon risk grows as Marine Corps' No. 2 officer tests positive for coronavirus

The Marine Corps said its No. 2 officer, General Gary Thomas, had tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the second senior military official to do so this week, another sign of the danger to top brass who met both men at the Pentagon.

Thomas, the Marine Corps' assistant commandant, is suffering mild symptoms and is self-quarantining at home.

Nearly all the Joint Chiefs of Staff, including its chairman, Army General Mark Milley, are in quarantine after attending top-level meetings last week with Thomas and the Coast Guard's No. 2 official, Admiral Charles Ray, who tested positive on Monday.

The list of top generals quarantining reads like a "Who's Who's" of the U.S. military, including General Paul Nakasone, head of the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command, as well as the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Space Force.
