At issue was the FDA’s planned instruction that vaccine developers follow patients enrolled in their trials for at least two months to rule out safety issues before seeking emergency approval from the agency. A senior administration confirmed the move Monday evening, saying the White House believed there was “no clinical or medical reason” for the additional requirement.

White House blocks updated FDA guidelines on vaccine approval

Considering that the first vaccines will be given to health care workers and the most vulnerable people, it is critical that the vaccines are proven to be safe and effective.

So how many people would line up and take this vaccine, especially in light of this new information? not me, that's for sure--

I wonder how many countries will invest in a vaccine that isn't proven to be effective. Surely, they will want assurance that the vaccine provides protection for longer than two months, and that the vaccine provides adequate protection from getting CoVid.

Experimental COVID drug given to President Trump part of clinical trial at Augusta University

A decision by a team of doctors to give an experimental antibody cocktail to President Donald Trump after his COVID-19 diagnosis caught the attention of a local expert conducting a clinical trial to look at the drug’s effectiveness.

According to a White House release, Trump received a single 8-gram dose of Regeneron’s antibody cocktail. He was also given zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin and a daily aspirin.

Dr. Jose Vazquez, the chief of infectious diseases at Augusta University, said he was not sure why doctors gave the president all that medicine, considering there is not a whole lot of data about it.

“I was surprised they used all those other drugs,” he said.

Vazquez expects the antibody to be available to the general public for COVID-19 treatment in the near future. He is also expecting an increased interest in the drug and the clinical trial because of Trump taking it.

Vazquez said it will be at least six months until there is sufficient data from the clinical trial, with the inpatient part ongoing and the outpatient one going at a slower pace.

I’m particularly relieved that Biden tested negative. He’s so frail and unhealthy looking that, IMO, it would be a very, very serious problem for him if he got Covid. And that last video I saw of him showed him with an ill fitting mask while getting up close to reporters.
I've tried to watch all of Biden's speeches and I've yet to see him wear a mask that fits. It seems he has to adjust them after every couple of words. Constantly touching the mask which we aren't supposed to do. Not only is it not safe IMO but it distracts from what he's saying and blurs the message. I don't understand why Jill or his campaign people haven't found a mask that fits properly and stays in place. Find one that works and then keep multiples in stock. That's what I did for my husband and he's not running for the presidency.

I would like to see the data FDA used to make the recommendation.

MHOO....I feel the vaccine should be offered under EU to those in HC and long term care. Every long term care facility in Virginia is/has experienced an outbreak with many deaths. Everyday, in my small town one to three have died, over 60ish. Its heartbreaking. My friends living in LTC and ALs are scared to death, fear they will not survive the winter. Even with daily testing of staff, one or more test positive every few days.

All models are projecting increases in deaths for Nov and Dec. but no age related projections. Based on previous deaths. I'm predicting/guessing they will follow the same pattern, our older population and underlying health conditions.

I ask myself, would I take the vaccine if I lived in a communal setting, relying on staff to care for me?
Yeap, I think dying of Covid is a greater risk than the vaccine, based on information released, side effects. JMHO

 Winter Springs High student arrested after refusing to wear face mask

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at Winter Springs High School after refusing to wear a face mask in an incident the family’s attorney called “government abuse” of a teenager suffering from panic attacks.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said the arrest was for probation violations, not violations of the school district’s mask rules.

Rodriguez declined to say why her son was on probation.

Rodriguez said that on Sept. 4 she met with school staff to seek an exemption to the face mask rule for her son because of his anxiety attacks. It was not granted, however, as she had not provided the needed documentation.

“She was given another opportunity to produce and provide further information according to the school, however, they have yet to receive any further documentation,” he added.

In a statement, Rivas' law firm called the arrest “government abuse” and added, "We will be seeking just and fair compensation for the illegal arrest ... and the harm that this action caused him.”

If he has panic attacks and can't wear a mask, he would be able to get an ADA exemption (Americans with Disabilities Act). We offer that to students at universities in the U.S. And we don't require documentation during COVID - giving our students the benefit of the doubt. But if they can't wear a mask for various reasons, we do require that they take their classes virtually and we help them to do so.

On the flip side, I imagine people feel an empathy there. They are uncomfortable and hard to get used to, they do impact how we communicate etc. I struggle in mine too.

I would like to see video because as we saw in the rose garden just last week - there was no consideration displayed and certainly not a mandatory mask order - nothing has changed IMO and the taking off of his mask just confirms it - I would feel so much better had he left it on and waved signaling to everyone “I’m positive and I care about who I may come in contact with and I have my mask on” it would have meant so much

He does know he can do anything he wants, whether on 5th ave or Walter Reid.... so the dramatic removal of the mask was intentional, in my mind.
But what exactly is he wanting his fans and followers to do??? Or think???
This is still unclear to me.....

So glad to hear this! I have been so worried about Governor Christie. Still keeping him in thoughts and prayers.

So glad we heard something....
I think he will stay in the hospital,,.... to get the care he needs.
Asthma, age and weight are such magnets for covid.

Monoclonal, from everything I've read. But don't take my word for it - it's on the drug's website.

I agree that since we don't know when he got it (and I don't think his doctors can be sure either - they weren't following him around nor have they done highly scientific contact tracing - which could look at strains of CoVid, phylogenetically). At any rate, most doctors would say he needed 2 negative PCR tests about 24 hours apart, starting at about 10 days after first symptoms.

People with CoVid wax and wane in terms of how many virions they're breathing out. 10 days post symptoms means about 14-15 days total (which is why the 14 day quarantine advice is so common). But there's no way to predict the course for any individual.

If I were in charge of the USA, I'd want several days of negative tests - and to be tested (PCR) every day. I would of course want my treatment to be public - to help others.

I wish we knew more about CoVid - and since Trump is getting experimental care, it would be great if he shared more. The rest of us could benefit. I'm not sure we'll ever know anything about how his various drugs interacted though.

Giving him dexamethasone at the same time as the anti-viral is not what you do in an urgent situation. Dex is reserved for a cytokine storm or bradykine storm (which, if he had either of those, he'd be way way sicker). I hope they don't regret negating some of the benefits of the monoclonal antibodies with the Dex, later.

And, as I said before, what's the effect on the human body of gaining more virions post-infection? Will he make everyone else wear masks but he (possibly infectious) does not? Would love to know.

@10ofRods, you provide solid medical information/explanation often...so can you attempt to answer the following??? moo moo

Obviously he can do and demand anything he wants.
So.... what if he WANTS more of the Dexamethasone since it likely contributed to his "feeling better than the last 20 years". (Why WOULD anyone even say that btw?)
So, anyway, what if he does want more---will they deny it, or will they just give in as they seem to be doing anyway.

I don’t think the doctors can insist that he stay in the hospital, especially if he meets the benchmarks to be released. And even so, patients have the right to check themselves out of the hospital against medical advice. So add that to him being the President, the doctors can’t stop him. I’m sure they will be keeping a very close eye on him, especially starting Friday...7 days after he probably contracted it at the Rose Garden. That period of 7-10 days is when things can go south really fast. Hopefully, he will get the rest he needs and follow the discharge orders he received and maintain isolation. That will remain to be seen.

What day are we counting as day 1? Today is day 10 if it's the Rose Garden event.

So do I-- that particular mask kind of wants to drift down so you do have to pick it up a bit to keep it over your nose: i try to adjust mine from the bottom so i don't keep touching it

The guidelines we follow at our university are to count 10 days from the beginning of symptoms. I think this is the CDC guidelines, but will have to check. So if the President's symptoms started on Thursday or Friday, then today is day 5 or 6?

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Monday said he got a call from Jordanian King Abdullah II wishing him well, that he spoke with the king for about 10 minutes and was invited to visit the Arab kingdom when he recovers.

“Chris, I’m concerned about you and wanted to be sure you’re OK,” the king said.

“Your majesty, I really appreciate the call,” Christie says he replied.

The Jordanian embassy in Washington did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

That's what I was thinking.
