I see a letter has been leaked saying that Wales is going into a cicuit breaker lockdown in about 5 days time?

World sees record new cases; Australian state set to ease restrictions – as it happened

I read that it was being considered by the First Minister last week ( he calls it a fire break). The two weeks is being considered to coincide with half term school holiday and just give another week on top. I thought I posted it on the thread maybe not.

Well, I (we) did something that's causing me to have second thoughts. A relative has lived in my state for 25 yrs. His wife divorced him, quickly re-marrying - says quite a bit. House was mortgaged for kids in college so no $. Kids now grown and moved away. He is working - from college grad to now manual labor. In debt. He is quite alone in all of this.

So, husband and I are taking him in for about six months until he gets back on his feet. It's the right thing to do. BUT, COVID-19 is worrying me. He will be living in a sort of separate part of the house. Guess I can insist he take a shower as soon as he gets home. Just hoping for a good outcome (for husband and me).

I agree that is way too costly. I have heard Trump talk about Medicare improvements and drug price reductions plus purchasing drugs cheaper from Canada. Reducing drugs costs to a few cents rather than several dollars, so who gets Medicare currently and how much does that cost normally?

Here is a link.

And in 2021

Trump Administration Announces Historically Low Medicare Advantage Premiums and New Payment Model to Make Insulin Affordable Again for Seniors | CMS projected enrollment for 2021,in Medicare Advantage for 2021.

When you turn 65, you are automatically enrolled in Medicare. No choice. You do need a supplement insurance, but Medicare is primary.

Does he have a separate bathroom? This is very good of you.

ETA I deleted my healthcare post as I think it may be OT

Yes. Separate bathroom. Bedroom on a separate level. I am DAR, tracing ancestry back to mountain people who always offered hospitality. Although I was not raised in that environment, hospitality was expected from my family, and as a child, I recall such from my parents, as well as other relatives.

Here is a covid win. NZ has rolled out in numbers and voted Jacinda back in to continue her fantastic leadership during this crisis.

A day after winning a second term in a landside victory, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she sees the election result as an endorsement of her government's efforts to stamp out the coronavirus and reboot the economy.
Speaking at a cafe near her Auckland home, Ms Ardern said she expected to form a new government within three weeks and to prioritise work on the COVID response.

Her popularity soared after she led a successful effort to halt the spread of the virus.

Well, this is really frightening. New symptoms.

MIS-A stands for "multi-system inflammatory syndrome in adults."

Many MIS-A patients report fevers, chest pain or other heart problems, diarrhea or other gastrointestinal issues — but not shortness of breath. And diagnostic tests for Covid-19 tend to be negative.

Instead, patients will test positive for Covid-19 antibodies, meaning they were infected two to six weeks previously, even if they never had symptoms.

"Just because someone doesn't present with respiratory symptoms as their primary manifestation does not mean that what they're experiencing isn't as a result of Covid-19," Morris said.

A rare Covid complication is showing up in adults weeks after they have the virus

Looks like they finally "got it" and returned, but why would they even think to go on a holiday when the virus is spiraling? (That's for everyone else, not us.) It appears this isn't the first time for this elite couple. See below. Living in a different world, for certain.

It is not the first time the royal couple have been in the spotlight for their conduct. In August, they were pictured breaking social distancing rules with a restaurant owner during another trip to Greece.

National COVID-19 surveillance reports

Just came across these reports from the Gov UK site available to download.

Useful info about age, sex, race and percent positives at above link.

Below link is a new US one I have found. This shows the weekly forecasts compared to the actual.

It has the forecasts and the actuals, showing US death numbers falling since 1st August when it was 8k per week till 8th Oct at below 5k. Hoping it continues to fall.

RI Gov. Expected to Announce New Coronavirus Restrictions Thursday
RI Companies Ordered to Shut Down Break Rooms for Next 3 Months
Gov. Gina Raimondo said socializing in office break rooms was one of the sources of a recent increase in COVID-19 cases
more at link
Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo on Thursday said office break rooms must be shut down for the next three months in a bid to slow an uptick in coronavirus cases across the state.

Raimondo said casual socializing in break rooms were one of the sources of a recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the state, in addition to small indoor gatherings among family and friends.

Employers should seek safe, alternative spaces where employees can take breaks, including encouraging people to take breaks outside. In cases where companies cannot close the break room, she asked companies to use "creative" solutions such as sign-up sheets.

Cafeterias will be allowed to remain open, she said. The health department would provide further details to companies.

She also asked companies to continue allowing employees to work from home if possible and to discourage car pooling. Firms should also encourage workers to get coronavirus tests, even if they are not showing symptoms.

The break room closures were among a number of moves and pleas made by the administration Thursday to stem infections in difficult-to-manage situations such as small social gatherings.

"It's harder to regulate and enforce our way out of our problem now, because most of the problems we are seeing are happening in your home, in your backyard, in a break room," she said.

"We just have to try a little harder, get a little more focused, because we're in a tough spot right now."

“The royals flew out on a government plane but were immediately criticised for going on holiday when the population was being advised to stay at home as much as possible to curb the spread of Covid-19.

They flew back on a scheduled KLM flight and the royal standard was flying over the palace in The Hague on Saturday evening.”

Left on a government plane and came back on a commercial flight. Expensive one day vacation. Maybe he was the co-pilot on the flight back since he’s been working part time for KLM for many years.

Florida Coronavirus Cases Saturday Most In Single Day Since August

The Florida Department of Health reported more than 4,000 new positive cases of coronavirus on Saturday, the highest-single day total of new cases since late August.

CDC warns of "superspreader" events after game causes outbreak — CBS News

“One player in a game between two groups of men at an ice rink last June likely led to 14 other people experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, three Florida officials wrote in an article published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Of the 15 people who fell ill after the game in the Tampa Bay area, 13 tested positive for the coronavirus, and two weren't tested. Cloth face masks weren't used in either team's locker room or during the game.

"The ice rink provides a venue that is likely well suited to COVID-19 transmission as an indoor environment where deep breathing occurs, and persons are in close proximity to one another," the officials with the Florida Department of Health wrote in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.”

Indoors. No masks. No social distancing.
Everything we are asked not to do. Sigh.

Entire High School of 600 Students Ordered to Quarantine Due to Mississippi COVID-19 Outbreaks — People

“One Mississippi high school has ordered its entire student body — around 600 students — to quarantine for two weeks due to COVID-19 outbreaks in the area.

The Lamar County School District announced the 14-day quarantine for Sumrall High School students on Wednesday morning. The town of Sumrall’s population only totals around 1,800.”
-
WHAT? An entire high school?
600 students out of 1,800 residents?
-
“Gov. Tate Reeves let the state’s face mask mandate expire on Sept. 30 after initially issuing it on Aug. 4.”

“When he let it expire, Reeves said he would “trust the majority of the people of Mississippi to do the right thing” and continue wearing masks without “the heavy hand of government.” However, it has led many residents to stop wearing masks in public, the Free Press reports.”
-
Why would you let the mandate expire?
Especially heading into fall/winter?
Covid did not suddenly disappear.
