Very sobering

Shouldn't we try to flatten the curve? Anyone listening? I think sirens should be blaring. I can't imagine what the graph will look like in Mid-December after the Thanksgiving feasts.

WHO: "There is no excuse for inaction. My message is very clear: act fast, act now, act decisively." (Thank you, @margarita25 )
I'm in Victoria and we have just come out of one the harshest and longest lockdowns. We are now on day 19 with zero cases. Our neighbouring state, SA has an outbreak at the moment and have just implemented a swift shutdown to prevent this wildly contagious virus from spreading.
'No time to wait': South Australia is forced into a brutal six-day lockdown with residents not even allowed to leave their homes for exercise as the state is hit with a virulent covid strain
South Australia will enter six-day hard lockdown at midnight on Wednesday
Drastic restrictions come as the state battles a COVID-19 outbreak in Adelaide
Residents will not be allowed outside for exercise and masks will be mandatory
Weddings and funerals will be halted while construction industry will freeze
Premier Steven Marshall said they are battling a 'highly contagious' strain
South Australia to lockdown for six days as coronavirus cluster in Adelaide grows | Daily Mail Online
Yes. At midnight we are going into a very strict circuit breaker lockdown. Only essential workers (nurses/doctors/police) can leave home, and one person if they are taking care of someone elsewhere.
The only thing that will be open is supermarkets and pharmacies - one person can go there once per day - and I noticed tonight when I stopped in (for chocolate) that they are already counting and restricting the number of people in the shop. The line is out the door and down the street at BWS (liquor store).
Must wear a mask if you go to the supermarket.
The plus is the weather is beautiful.
This is what Nicola Spurrier (CHO) just told us .....
Testing has shown that the infection came from the UK
This is a rapidly spreading infection
People are infectious within 24 hours
Each generation of the infection takes 3 days (to regenerate/modify, I think?)
We are on the 5th generation already - the infected person just landed here on 2nd November
Premier just said "we've got one chance to stamp this out, we must do it now".
The lockdown is for 6 days at the moment.

Never heard of a circuit breaker lockdown, how does that work?
And how do you enforce how many people leave home?
If that can even be done?
It means a hard lockdown for a short period, meant to stop the virus in its tracks.
The police will be out cruising. They will pull over any car with more than one person in it, and pull over other cars randomly to see where people are going. People will comply (except the odd numbskull), because that's who we are.

I agree that the majority of people will do the right thing, and also agree, there will be a few numbskulls, <modsnip> who will protest and believe that their human rights have been taken away - that's what happened here in Melbourne.
South Aussie, how does it work there for people financially? I.e. Say if you work in a non essential shop and you cannot work due to the 6 day lockdown. Is there a furlough arrangement in place?Yes. (ETA: We currently have 22 cases, with 7 more exibiting symptoms but testing negative)
They have traced the virus from a pizza box to another person.
So they are trying to contact everyone who has used this one pizza place ... either in person, pickup, delivery, or Uber Eats.
This is our hotspot.
@ChuckGrassley

Yeah, way too soon to know.
My biggest concern is if the vaccine is safe for people with pre-existing conditions. Such as cancer patients, recovered cancer patients, people with autoimmune disorders, heart conditions, diabetics, etc. How healthy must you be for the vaccine to not harm you?
The news about Moderna's vaccine is really encouraging. Especially since it appears it can be kept stable at a more forgiving temp than Pfizer's. This is great!!! Having more than one vaccine to choose from in terms of efficacy. Increases our odds of getting this under control globally.

Professor Roger Seheult, MD discusses the Moderna COVID-19 mRNA vaccine: How it works and what we know about the safety, efficacy, and side effects at this time. No mRNA vaccine has ever been approved by the FDA, but Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech hope to receive emergency approval based on preliminary data from their ongoing vaccine trials. Moderna's two-dose vaccine regimen does not require special refrigeration (the Pfizer vaccine is supposed to be stored at -70 Celcius) but a variety of questions remain: Will the vaccine prevent transmission and asymptomatic spread? How long will immunity last? Will “94.5% effective” hold up to peer-review and additional data when it is gathered?
